I am very pleased that my 5 days of a fasting-mimicking diet went very well. I lost 7.2 lbs during the week and my morning blood sugar went down from 9.8 to 6.5. Now the trick is to keep it off until I do it again in March.

Our snow has lasted -- we had a few sunny breaks this week but it just keeps snowing and is forecast to keep doing so for another couple of weeks. This is what it looked like out our front windows today. In the first picture, you can see the ice on our drain chain and in the second one you can see the snow on the cliff behind the house across the street. Although this may not seem like a lot of snow to some of you it does make our steep little driveway to treacherous to navigate so I am choosing to stay home until it is over.

A fasting-mimicking plan is a very low calorie, low carb plan which is only followed for 5 days. There is a commercial company that supplies the food online but I decided to make my own. For the five days I had one meal a day which was a pancake made from 3 eggs, 6 Tbs of ground flax and 3 Tbs of coconut oil -- I mix the first two ingredients in my Nutribullet and cook it in a frying pan with the oil (the flax will absorb all the oil). The idea is to have about 800 calories a day that have 80% fat, 10% protein and 10% carbs. The idea is to do this once a month for about 3 months (or more) and then when you are ready for a maintenance plan do it a couple of times a year. You can google Fasting Mimicking Diet but I got my guidelines from the book Ketotarian by Dr. Will Cole.
