A Morning For The Record Books

Wednesday, May 08, 2019

Today was a day off from work that I was intending to use to sleep in....DH and I were rudely awakened at 0610 by what sounded like a gunshot! We bolted and dressed and rushed outside to find one of our service cables in the middle of the driveway. A trip inside revealed that both the land line and the cable service were out. By the time we went back outside, the sheriff was on the scene up the road a way, directing rush hour traffic around the downed electrical line servicing that house. A total of seven of our neighboring houses had their service lines snapped by a truck that the driver neglected to thoroughly check before leaving the yard. The dump body was still in the UP POSITION! The phone linemen were at the house and ran a new line from the pole-the original was found two driveways north of our house-while I was at my medical appointment. The cable guys showed up just before noon to run a new cable from the pole. They had to use a different attachment point to the house than the original as the sound we heard this morning was the snapping of the fascia board on the eaves. Called County Dispatch and heard back from the detective how to contact the insurance agent for the business owning the truck. I then called our handyman. He and his wife showed up at about 5pm to survey the damage and will send us an estimate in the morning. As luck would have it, my car was parked directly under the lines and was not hit by flying cables-both the other cars that would have been on the northern edge of the driveway were not at home at the time of the accidents. PHEW! What a mess that would have been,,,,,
