The Ideal Weight?

Sunday, July 19, 2020

Okay, so as of yesterday I've lost 14.4 lbs! I'm so proud of the progress I've made so far, even though it's been going slowly. My goal as of right now is to lose a total of 60 lbs, which would put me at about 200 lbs. That's what my OBGYN recommended before getting pregnant. Over the years, I've fluctuated weight a lot, and I've found that I always feel LOADS better under 200 lbs. So it seemed like the perfect goal weight for now, and I totally stand by that decision.

Of course, I've also been considering the fact that a healthy weight for my height is considered 113-138 lbs. I have NEVER been this skinny. The skinniest I can ever remember being is 155 lbs when I was in high school. I can't imagine being that skinny. I may keep losing weight after I hit 200 lbs, but I'm not sure what my ideal weight would be.

How did you pick your goal weight?? Did you reach that weight and keep going?

Good job! I am with you on my "recommended" weight and the lowest I can remember being. I know you can talk to your doctor about a goal wait. Personally, I think any weight you feel good at and seem to be able to maintain is a weight your body wants to be at. My goal is the weight on my driver's license. I honestly am not sure if I can hit that goal. I am thinking more 160-175 for a weight (which still keeps me in the overweight category).

Different things affect your ideal weight.Muscle weighs more than fat. I weigh lower because I have had bones removed and have titanium spare parts. The charts are only an advisory.See where you feel healthy that is the most important factor.

I checked the CDC's website for the highest "healthy" weight for my height (I'm 5'4). So, my goal is to hit 145 pounds at first, but then I'd like to lose some more so I won't be in danger of slipping into the "overweight" category day to day.

Congrats on 14 lb loss! One pound at a time. One day at a time.
It’s good to have a starting goal and even better to have an achievable practical goal. Your goal sounds sane! Lol
My Original goal 175 but I like 165 better!
I am 5’7 and started at about 230 lbs with my goal weight set at 175. I just knew I could fit in a size 12/14 being average size of my peers, Initially dropped 40 lbs pretty quickly and felt healthy, normal, average size, but It took me about 4 yrs to finally achieve goal weight. Then after retirement I decided to drop another 10, held that a couple yrs and then regained 15 extra and lost that plus 10 landing at 150 but could not maintain that at all. I am back to low end of 170’s for now, but wanting to drop back to 165 where I’m comfy in my clothes and skin - goal body. I have had some regains of 5-20 lbs in between the hullabaloo. But all in all, I consider myself a maintainer. The steady sweet spot is elusive. I just know I will fight to never go back to where i was years ago and most of my life. Charts have me normal at 158 but I’m not willing to do what it takes to get back there at this point and Not sustainable.

Check out vlog video by Susan Pierce Thompson on “Goal Body” vs goal weight. I do not follow her food plan but enjoy some of her free offerings. Also Dr. Judith Beck’s literature that includes maintainable vs sustainable weight.

    Cheers! Spark on!

So far I have lost 73 pounds and want to keep going. I don't have an 'ideal' weight but I know it's some pounds away.

You'll know when you are getting close to a good weight when you can doing anything you want because you are healthy and active.

I have a goal weight in mind but I also have a wait and see attitude. I want to be healthy. I don't want to starve all the time. There has to be a balance. Body composition is so important too. I wish I had an easy answer for you but nope. Sorry. emoticon
