Happy Holidays and the cozy Allstate Island (Ona Island)
Sunday, December 27, 2020
I hope you are having a great holiday season. This goes out to those celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and others. We celebrate Christmas, but if there's ever been a year for us to all come together and be respectful to others, 2020 is the year.
We had a great Christmas. My mother-in-law visited. Our dog Flash is always excited when his Oma visits and then is sad when she leaves :). My youngest son and I played giant Jenga for the first time. Has anyone out there played this? Super-fun and not that expensive. It's a great party or family game. I'm also in the middle of assembling his new portable basketball hoop that was a bit more challenging than I thought yesterday.
I thought I'd share a cozy story for anyone interested. Last week, while watching a football game, I saw the Allstate commercial with the idyllic island and wondered if this island is real. After searching the net, I found the island IS real, but Allstate took some creative liberty and showed this as a separate island, when in fact it's connected to a larger island. While searching, I found a fun short video of the island after a fresh snowfall.
First, the island is part of Norway.
Here is the original Allstate commercial if you haven't seen this:
Yes! I would love to go there, just for the experience and to meet the people. We took my son to Iceland (his choice) for his college graduation. Something about this reminds me a little of Iceland. It was not a place I would have picked, but what a wonderful adventure! Sometimes it's good to have someone else pick your vacation location :) 81 days ago
Looks like a lovely place to visit. Glad your Christmas was a happy one. All the best in the New year of 2021.....many of us are using masks and glad we are....so many have Coronavirus and it is so sad...... Take care and Stay well. God bless. hugs, Irish Ei 132 days ago
I love this All State Commercial - so much better than the annoying Progressive Insurance commercial which keeps popping up on my TV and computer!!! I've learned to appreciate the snowy winters in Massachusetts. Then when the beautiful Springtime comes in March and April we are so happy looking forward to the warm summers on the beach at Cape Cod. 137 days ago
Thank you! This was truly a gift! I live in Florida, but so badly want to return to the climate of my youth in New England with seasons and snow! I cried when it snowed during my visit to New Hampshire last Christmas. I walked to the corner store in 7 degree weather because I could! My hubby and I even shoveled snow, enjoying every moment of it! Thank you again! A lighthouse and snow, how perfect! 138 days ago
Looks beautiful! My husband's family is from Norway. Not that particular village nor even close but I'm sure he'll be interested in these photos. Thank you for sharing. Glad you and your family had a great Christmas. Ours did too. 139 days ago
Thanks for sharing all the information of the islands. If I were to visit, it would have to be in the summer, not much of a winter person, with the snow, cold temps, and windy winds that accompany the snow. Sounds like you and your family had a nice Christmas, and we did also. 140 days ago
I enjoyed watching all the videos that you sent to us. I'm sure that there are loads of people that like to travel to different places however I am not like them. I do like to see what other countries look like but not to visit. When I was younger I use to think about see the USA from one end to the other. I have been to some but not to all. 140 days ago
Thx for sharing this! So many beautiful places we can visit when the pandemic is over...in the meantime, I'll go to Norway in my mind and stay safe and make sure I don't spread this virus to anyone. 140 days ago
This is definitely the year to celebrate the holiday. Since it was different, we can say that made it special! We kept some of our traditions like reading the Night Before Christmas after we got our new pajamas and staying in our new pajamas all Christmas day, but it was definitely smaller and more leisurely and I enjoyed every minute spent with my hubby and teenage daughter. 140 days ago
