Happy Holidays and the cozy Allstate Island (Ona Island)
Sunday, December 27, 2020
I hope you are having a great holiday season. This goes out to those celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and others. We celebrate Christmas, but if there's ever been a year for us to all come together and be respectful to others, 2020 is the year.
We had a great Christmas. My mother-in-law visited. Our dog Flash is always excited when his Oma visits and then is sad when she leaves :). My youngest son and I played giant Jenga for the first time. Has anyone out there played this? Super-fun and not that expensive. It's a great party or family game. I'm also in the middle of assembling his new portable basketball hoop that was a bit more challenging than I thought yesterday.
I thought I'd share a cozy story for anyone interested. Last week, while watching a football game, I saw the Allstate commercial with the idyllic island and wondered if this island is real. After searching the net, I found the island IS real, but Allstate took some creative liberty and showed this as a separate island, when in fact it's connected to a larger island. While searching, I found a fun short video of the island after a fresh snowfall.
First, the island is part of Norway.
Here is the original Allstate commercial if you haven't seen this:
Up until now, I never realized that it was a commercial for Allstate! But always noticed the pretty island, and wondered at how it would feel to live there! All that advertising money for nothing.....
Enjoy putting that basketball hoop together. 137 days ago
I haven't played big Jenga, but I have played the smaller version. I live in Virginia & there is an island (Tangier Island) off the coast of Virginia that you can get to by boat or ferry. It's a pretty cool place...I've been several times. 137 days ago
A lot of other places I'd rather visit first. One if which is Portugal. But it is a beautiful place. We've played the small jenga- love the game! Have a good rest of the year and hopefully 2021 will be A LOT better!
MAMADEE016 Beautiful videos! Beautiful island! Thank you so much for sharing them with us! I've saved a few of those links for future access! Might be nice to (virtually) explore this island, and more of Norway!
I enjoyed these videos. I know a Canadian woman who married a Norwegian. They are both stuck in Norway for most of this year. They were visiting his family when Covid altered their plans. She says she doesn't mind because she loves Norway. They hike around and post photos on FB. I'm learning a lot about that country and what great trails they have. Your video expanded my knowledge. Thank you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 137 days ago
Thanks, Chris. My DH is 100% Norwegian and we have seen other pictures of this island. Also have seen it on the ad. Thanks for sharing. It's a dream to be able to go to Norway so we dream in pictures. 137 days ago
All beautiful photos of Ona but I especially love the one you put on of it as 'a stunning image of the island.' It is indeed a gorgeous photo. Thank you for sharing these photos and the story. 137 days ago
