In spite of all the inconveniences and tragedies brought on by Covid-19, 2020 was a pretty good year for me. I am retired, so I didn’t face huge issues like unemployment or losing a business, and I didn’t have any loved ones who got Covid and had to be hospitalized.

We started the first week of 2020 by starting a strength training program using a book by fitness trainer Jorge Cruise using mainly free weights. We progressed throughout the year and were
able to use heavier dumbbells and add stretch bands to our program. I had dabbled in ST over the years, but was never able to get a consistent program going. Now I have one. It is not a really strenuous program, which means I can proceed at my own pace and feel motivated to workout 4-5 times a week on different muscle groups.

I joined the Biggest Loser Challenge in the fall of 2019, so I had the program pretty much under my belt before adding ST. I managed to get within 3 pounds of my goal weight and added muscle mass during the year. I kept my promise to record my eating everyday, which really helped me be accountable.
We were able to take a vacation in Florida just before Covid hit. Even though we were on vacation, we ate quite a few salads and limited desserts and did ST everyday, so I had very little
celebratory weight to lose.
I used my program thru all the holidays and did my best not to overcelebrate with endless food.
I must admit that although the pandemic sharply curtailed our restaurant eating, parties, and trips, it really helped us keep our weight in check. And the weight training helped us keep in an upbeat mood after the first couple of months, so we able to cut way back on the crutch of using food to try to soothe ourselves. We did enjoy cooking and tried a number of soup recipes that gave our meals some variety and the comfort that only a hot bowl of soup can give.
So I am looking forward to 2021 and getting the Covid vaccine. Thank you all my Spark friends for keeping me motivated to move forward.
