As The Year Turns

Thinking back to last year's New Year's Even who could possibly have thought that 2020 would turn out the way it did? The Washington Post asked readers to give them the one word that described the year and needless to say most were not positive! Exhausting and Relentless were right up there and I have to agree.
Hard as it is to believe for me and my partner there was an upside and that is learning to just be. When we were pretty much locked down last March and April we adapted to having nothing to do....no appointments, gym, meal dates, drink dates (well except for outside staying socially distant), movies, theater, shopping...bascially just the two of us with Fletcher. And what did we do?
We first binged on the news and made sure to watch Gov Cuomo every day....then learned that moderating the news was the way to go. Listened to quiet music, started mediating, doing yoga, and lots and lots and lots of walking! Even our dog lost weight.
I was determined to not gain weight and happy to say that I stayed pretty much in my goal range. Now that we're back in Florida happy that I'm back at the low end of the range instead of the. high end. All that walking again!
Before we left NY we got hit with a snowstorm that kept up housebound. Before the pandemic I'd have been nuts not being able to get out This time? Just found some things to do inside, shoveled, played with Fletcher in the snow.
Another positive was getting more politically active. I volunteered to monitor social media for mis/disinformation. Thrilled to know that we elected a competent, decent man and a woman to run the government in 2021. There is hope for the country.
And I end with that word....HOPE. We may have been battered and bruised last year and sadly too many lost their lives. but we prevailed and now vaccinations are coming and there is hope that we'll end the pandemic. Hope that our government will start to work for ALL people. And hope that we will all continue on our healthy journey to a better life.
