Life is Different and That's OK!

Saturday, February 06, 2021

And what a year it has been! this time a year ago we were settling in to our place in Florida and loving it. We were laser focused on the coming Presidential election and all that entailed and then WHAM! Covid 19 turned everything upside down.

Here in FL everything closed and thankfully we could walk and ride our bikes so kept up with our exercise. Instacart worked so we didn't have to go shopping either. We were super careful driving back to NY and that worked out fine.

Then headed to our lake house to get it ready to sell June 1 and spent the month clearing it out. Lovely memories for 20 years and time to move on.

As things started opening up in NY we ventured out for lunches outside and our gym opened so we were able to get back there in September. Arranged for a mover to bring things from NY to FL and when we got here in mid December had ALOT of unpacking to to. We also got to see the renovated kitchen and lanai which we absolutely love. Gives us so much more useable space.

Making new routines and that is just fine. We can go out to eat and are very careful to only go where masks are required and everyone respects that suggestion. The Governor here is a real dope and won't require masks emoticon the fitness center is open so we will go there a few times/week. Our routine is different though with mostly walking outside mixed with a 30 minutes workout in the fitness center. And when we do that, typically don't go anywhere else.

Mixing it up has actually worked really well. We mostly eat at home and between that and walking an average of 22,000 steps/day my weight is right back where I want it. Get to see my brother and his wife and kids which has been GREAT! Ate outside last night.

My anxiety has calmed down since President Biden took office. His competency, decency, dignity and calm has made all the difference in the world. My partner has an appointment for the vaccine and I'm hopeful that I'll be able to book one next week.

Life is certainly different this year and that is just fine!
How is it changing for you?

So glad it's working out for you in FL this year. I didn't go with my sister and her Dh this year. I just needed some alone time I guess. So far so good. I haven't had the nerve yet to go back to the fitness center. Maybe when Becky comes back I will try it. Continue to have a good winter down there!

Well, you sound so contented. I had wondered about your move to Florida at that time. I infer that you are now a permanent Floridian. We have a place in Florida but I decided to not leave Maine this year due to covid. I understand about the governor of Florida. I am so glad you have settled nicely and am jealous of you much better weather thank NY or where I am in Maine. Have a great week.

Selling your lake house - likely a good time. Prices here on our lake have exploded upwards, supposedly since people can't travel to vacation spots they want to live at one.

We will stay here until 100 steps down to the dock becomes unmanageable. If so, we have no business living 25 miles from town.

We haven't seen family since March 4th when we returned from South America and that's OK.
We live in a deep red bubble of covid denying folks so we will continue to be hermits awhile longer. I am most concerned for family who must be out and about among them. 2 got their shots, 1 teacher still waiting. The rest at the end of the list, We haven't even tried yet.

Moving in 2020 must have been very different! Dearly Beloved is of the age that he can get a vaccine but Iowa is in the 47 place for the number of shots coming to the state. I hope to get the vaccine by July.

Except for the part about moving, (and I'm ready for some warmer climes) I totally agree with everything you said. We're waiting for our county to get the vaccine, but staying home in our bubble has become quite comfortable, so that part probably won't change much.

    Stay safe. Be well. emoticon

Many changes in our lives. We were very social people so this was a blow/ We are om Florida also and not getting to go out was biggy for us. We do have a small group of friends and we have planned get to gethers and none in our group as been exposed. It is our friends of over 40 years and their children and young grandchildren. We would have pool parties at their home with hotdogs hamburgers etc. I think this is the only things that keep me going. Sitting at home for 6 months would have blown my mind

Oh gosh. So many medical problems that would have been handled more rapidly pre-Covid. But thank goodness, at least the health problems have been addressed. It's daunting.

Most every aspect of the daily routine has been impacted in some way. BUT we've adapted. That's survival, right!?!

Iwill be sooooooo happy to see and hug my family again. I pray that day comes sooner than later.
