April 19, 2021 MAKE A DECISION TO SERVE
When we are faced with big or small decisions in life, we sometimes take a while to choose. Then there are times when we rush and decide without thinking. Sometimes things work out. Sometimes they do not. To make the best decision in life, we need to think about the outcome. We need to think about what it means if we make a wrong choice. We need to think about the right thing to do. We need to remember our decisions will bring either a good or bad outcome depending on our choice. This is certainly true when we decide who or what we will serve.
Every day, we choose who or what we will serve by our actions, thoughts and words. Any choice other than God is a wrong decision. We are to serve only God. He is compassionate about loving us. He is compassionate about caring for us. He is compassionate about what path we take in life. When we serve something or someone who is not God, we are serving imperfection. We will be let down. We cannot serve both God and man. We have to make a choice. Let’s choose to compassionately serve only God.
Exodus 20:3-5a “You must not have any other god but me. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods.” (NLT)
1. Write what you think about the most.
2. List anything or anyone you put first in your life.
3. Know God should have first place in all you do.
4. Remember to serve only God and nothing else.
Dear Lord, help us to make better decisions in life. We sometimes get distracted by the things of the world and put them first in our lives. We sometimes put others on a pedestal and put our hope and trust in them. However, You tell us that we are to serve only You. We are not to serve anything or anyone else. Remind us daily to draw close to You and be compassionate about serving only You. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Matthew 6:24a “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other.” (NLT)
Deuteronomy 11:16 “But be careful. Don’t let your heart be deceived so that you turn away from the Lord and serve and worship other gods.” (NLT)
Joshua 24:15 “But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve…But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” (NLT)
Deuteronomy 6:13a “You must fear the Lord your God and serve him.” (NLT)
