Wow VERY Optimistic! & Camping

Wednesday, May 05, 2021

I put a pair of flip flops in the trunk of my car. I am ready to go for pedicure, hopefully soon.
Canadians are eager to get vaccinated but there is not yet enough to go around. Some parts of the country are in tight lockdowns, kids are home getting online instruction.

Here in British Columbia our numbers soared, but are trending downward now with new restrictions in place. There are travel restrictions for non-essential travel in B.C. that is in place until May 25, to stop the spread of COVID-19 and variants of concern. Fines can be given to people who leave their region for non-essential travel. Stay local and stay in your community. Do not travel for non-essential reasons. The campground is in our region so it was ok to go. We kept to ourselves, walked the dogs, and did not drive any where,

Camping was a reset for me. I came home feeling happy and well rested. Our RV is like a mini one bedroom apartment, with everything we need to be comfortable. I slept around 9 hours a night snuggled under a heavy quilt. We turn the heat off at night and outside the temperatures were in the low 40's, and about 60 F inside.

Today we went to the greenhouse and got an assortment of plants; herbs and flowers. The chocolate mint plant should be interesting. I will pot some flowers for get well gifts and for birthdays.

For the last couple of days my calorie intake has been at the lower end of my range. Hopefully my weight loss get a kick!

How are things going in your area?

DH, I, and our best friends are fully vaccinated, but I'm not sure about the local infection rates. Unfortunately most people have stopped wearing masks except in stores and medical offices. DH and I went to our church last Sunday for the first time in 14 months, and we were the ONLY two people in masks. emoticon I think covid fatigue is contagious too.

I'll continue to wear masks and avoid indoor crowds. But there's no enforcement for those going into public places and then lowering or removing masks. emoticon

The county that I live in has reported 50% of the population has been fully vaccinated.

Around here we can now travel more than 10km from home, but masks everywhere. Non-essential shops re-open on 19th!

I have seen a very few people out without masks. Restaurants are filling up again. emoticon
It will be interesting to see how many come to graduation this Saturday. They are combining classes from spring and fall 2020 and spring 2021. There are different times for undergrads and graduate students.

In MI we have a resurge, most ages can be vaccinated, still masks, isolation, I still have not had my hair cut so I'm a gray long-haired mess, lol

1/3 have had their first shot here in Nova Scotia and we are in a very tight lockdown due to a recent outbreak of the new variants. Response to province wide testing has been incredible, in fact our labs have been overwhelmed by that response. People are being fined for non compliance, $2000 per incidence.

Glad you had a good camping trip, stay safe and well!

Glad you had the camping experience. Have wonderful memories of camping with my family near a lake where we went boating, skiing, and Dad cooked wonderful breakfasts! As for Covid here in NC , we are moving along with the vaccinations and all ages are being vaccinated and cases are down in our county. More business hours and people are traveling some. Hopefully this continues!

I get my 1st vaccine on Saturday. I will have to travel to another town to get it. I assume that will count as essential! I’m so glad to see our BC daily active cases going down. I am glad you had a wonderful camping experience.

I'm another Canadian in lockdown... I have my first shot through work, but my friends are having a terrible time attempting to schedule their vaccines!

Your camping trip sounds wonderful. I would love to be able to do something different right now. Yes our numbers have come down a little but definitely not enough to feel comfortable doing too much even if we were allowed. Walking and grocery shopping is as exciting as it gets right now. Thank goodness for Skype and FaceTime

WOW! And we complained about wearing masks! Camping is great if you have food, fuel and good boots. A tent is needed as well.

Glad you got to go camping and reset your mind! I love chocolate mint plants - I dry the leaves to make a mint herbal tea or add to puddings and desserts to add a hint of mint. Hope you enjoy!

In Maine we are 50% Vaccinated, and our numbers for having more done has slowed down so much that even an out of state person can have the shot. Our numbers are VERY LOW compared to many, but NOT FOR Maine. Our numbers are 300 to 400 a day and sometimes in the 500's. Of course our population is 1.4 million. We are a small state. for us these numbers are quite high, okay they are high.

    WOOHOO on the camping!!

Sounds good! We camp locally also (2 miles from our home) with the same people. I like to think of it as our quarranteam. Now what to do with that chocolate mint? I've grown it. It smells good, I just never did anything with it. Let me know!

Glad yr camping went so well...that is exactly how I like to sleep...60* but under a heavy quilt!
So here in Rhode Island (between NY and Boston) we are in good shape with Covid and vaccines now.
Most folks have been compliant all along and eager to get back out there!
Our governor has raised the numbers for restaurants and weddings and churches etc. and lowered the social distancing in schools to 3’ which helps them a lot.
Masks are still required inside unless everyone is fully vaccinated.
I did get a pedicure about a month ago and felt very safe.
Still too nervous to go for a massage but I saw her recently and she is fully vaccinated too so I should just relax and go...she must be hurting!

Montana has somewhat over 30% fully vaccinated. Case loads have dropped with about 1200 cases active at a time and 50-60 current hospitalizations. Our governor lifted the mask mandate as soon as he was inaugurated... Despite that, our curve has flattened out with about 100-200 new cases a day (population about 1.1 million).

Our governor just announced that Montana will be pulling out of the federal unemployment program and go back to our previous rules in six weeks. Also there will be a state run incentive plan for those who take new jobs and stay at them for at least a month. The unemployment rate is about 3.8%, which is just above what it was before the pandemic. (I think it was about 3.3%)

Your camping trip sounds like fun! So nice to get away. I went on my first mini-vacations after getting vaccinated, I LOVED it. We are back into high risk restrictions, restaurants, gyms and stores can open to 25% capacity. Masks are required indoors. I hope this pandemic is controlled SOON. We have a fairly high vaccination rate among seniors, but we also have a fairly high number of anti-vaxxers (they actually showed up outside the mobile clinic at the high school to harass high school kids who were going in for vaccines)

Glad you had a great time camping! We are in lockdown in Ontario until at least May 20th. Kids may not go back to in class learning for the rest of the year.

Here we still have plenty of covid but no change in response to it. Some churches and businesses never closed. The majority of people don't wear masks, or social distance. They don't get vaccines. They don't follow rules and never have. So those of us who want to avoid it have to do all the work. So we are building a new raised bed.

Glad it was such a good reset for you! We all need that, for sure.

We seem to have plenty of vaccine here in Western New York. Pharmacies are giving out the shots. My doctor's office called this morning to say they have availability. Even with availability, not everyone wants to get the vaccine.
I glad you had fun and that your numbers are trending downward.

The good news here is we have enough vaccine that even age 16 and up can get shots.
So all my family including grandchildren have been vaccinated.
The bad news? We have enough vaccine because only 40% of the population in my area has agreed to get the shot. I will need to take precautions forever at this rate.

Chocolate mint is one of my faves! Good luck with it.

As far as the pandemic goes our county (Contra Costa) is not faring as well as the state (California). Our current case count is 5.0 per 100,000 with test positivity at 1.7% and the equity metrict at 2.5%. The state case count is 4.0 per 100,000 with test positivity at 1.2%. Our county barely qualifies for tier 3 (with tier 4 being the least restrictive tier). We've managed to remain within tier 3 for 3+ weeks with things essentially plateaued just a bit above the lows experienced this past fall despite what's been a relatively successful vaccination campaign thus far. I believe we plateaued about 2-months ago and just cannot seem to get the case counts to come down. Our case count numbers quickly climbed once restrictions were eased in May 2020 and we've not been able to get the case counts down since.

Given the reduced demand for vaccines, our county has announced that it will vaccinate folks whether or not they live or work in the county. Vaccinations were opened up to everyone 16+ that lives or works in the county over a month ago (March 30).

54.5% of the 16 and older are fully vaccinated and 70.9% of the 16 and older are partially vaccinated. Again, case counts still stubbornly plateaued and holding for essentially 2 months and not coming down. I keep wondering when the scales are going to tip one way or the other ... to the vaccines or to the variants. Pulling for the vaccines!

The only thing I ever enjoyed about all the years with EX and camping, was that I never slept so good. Something about all the fresh air.
