Are You Flourishing? Hiking & Tendonitis

Thursday, May 06, 2021

Today I diagnosed myself with tendonitis in my wrist. It hurts so bad it feels like it's broken. I am toughing it out, not even thinking of going to the doctor. I found my prescription Naproxen from a couple of years ago. Good news as per Google, after it expires it's still good for another 54 months. How is that for happy news?

Each week hubby and I and another couple do a socially distanced hike. It's always a new destination so we are learning a lot about other areas. We take turns preparing a picnic lunch which is always very nutritious and tasty... but we do include squares or cookies for dessert. Tomorrow we are hiking, so hubby is preparing the lunch tonight because of my tendonitis. He's a marvel in the kitchen. He looked at the recipes I had selected (before I hurt my wrist), and got to it.

Yesterday my happy thing was finding 2 pairs of pants I have shrunk out of. I really need to do a Maria Kondo on all my clothes. I listened to her audiobook a couple of years ago and did ALL my clothes and donated 30 pounds of excess clothes. It's time for me to do it again.

Just for fun try this NYT 'Are You Flourishing Quiz.' The first step toward better overall well-being is to think about how you’re doing in different parts of your life. Enjoy the quiz.

How did you do on the quiz? Hubby scored 84 and I scored 79.

Sorry about your wrist slowing you down. Part of our own well being is the condition of those we live with, their health and happiness

I have tendinitis in my right wrist so I know how painful they can be! .. I wear a wrist band around the clock that has copper in it and is soft and flexible but I can't find them anywhere anymore to buy. (Icing does help and there are a few gentle exercises you can do but try to refrain as much as possible from Using it unnecessarily)... Of course that is more difficult if it is your dominant hand.

77 score, and my downfall is that I have no close physical friends, so those questions took my score down. But as far as going thru the last year, it really has not interfered with my life, just have to be careful and wear a mask.

76,, could of been higher except LOL the question about How good is your health? and a few others were a little low, but about my life and being happy etc. those were 9 or 10's. That's so cool.

With the tendonitis please look up the exercises, I feel that often (And did on Weds) but I immediately do the exercises (all sit down, bending of in certain directions, not typical things for some of them, hardly takes any time, can be done any place, any time) and POOF it's GONE away again. Often it comes from being on our computers, tablets and phones in a way our wrists/hands are not relaxed in a natural way, but yet straight. It puts a horrible strain on our wrists (Tendons) when they are bent or I LOVE using my games on my phone and some coloring apps, but I found doing the coloring ones I was applying to much pressure hence OUCHERS BIG TIME!! I had to learn to barely hit my screen. I am and have always been heavy handed. But these help out so much. I was a cashier for 9 years, and back at that time we had to scan fast or you didn't get a good raise (and mine were always very high,, raises, because my scans were) or we could be let go. I made such great money for a cashier. I watched so many come in and NOT do the exercises we were given to do hourly, As I got promoted, hourly I'd go up and down the line and have the cashiers AND baggers do them with me, to make SURE they were doing them as they had the time, especially on a very busy day. They worked faster without pain. :)

ENJOY the hike!! Are the ticks horrible? In Maine they are the worse they've been in an extremely long time, due to lack of snow here in Southern Coastal Maine. SIGH

I had tendonitis in my elbow once and know it is very painful. So sorry that you have it in your wrist. I hope that you enjoy your hike.

Sorry to hear about your wrist. I had something like that years ago - did the pain reliever/anti-inflammatory, wore a splint. Hurt for a long time, then I tried some rubbing an Arnica gel on it -- great stuff. either I was about to heal at that time or that was a wonder gel for me. Heal quickly.

I took the quiz and was surprised I rated as high as I did.

    sorry about your wrist
nice you can get out with friends
    took you quiz thanks
Your score was 65 out of 100.

Your score closely matches the way many people have felt during the corona virus crisis. I
need to work on a few things but we are human.

Yikes sorry about the wrist. I hope the Naproxen gives you enough relief. What a great idea to do hikes with your friends along with a healthy lunch. Your Dh is a keeper for sure.
I sure miss those days when we could just take off and do something like that. I scored an 88

I scored a 78. Know things will get better going forward, but it has been a very challenging year and a half with DH's serious health issues.

HOWEVER, still have many blessings and working on those areas that need to be shored up.

    HOPE your tendonitis gets better.

I used to hike for real near Fort Worth. We would go in the spring and see all the Blue Bonnets. It was lovely. Thank you for the reminder.

I hope the tendonitis isn't on your dominant hand and heals quickly.

That's for the link. I got an 89.
Yes, I am well aware that retirement has made this year so much easier for me than for others.
My complaints are trivial compared to what others are facing. I never forget that.

Flourishing will have to wait after floundering through this week and next.
Sorry to hear about your wrist, but glad your DH is helpful and you can still go on your hikes and that you found your pain meds. I've started physical therapy for my left knee and was given meloxicam for it. It is very much better after only a week.
