Waiting for a bit to leave for my monthly grocery store jaunt. List is made and I am readying for what will hopefully be a quiet perusal before holiday crowds hit...on holidays there are always forgotten items, etc. I wish all the lovely Mothers a fabulous day and know that they will scurry to give as much as they get, preparing for their chicks to alight and go to bed tonight happy but exhausted.
My animals are fed and I noted that Darth, the resident Mallard, had the company of a pair of Wood Ducks on his pond. A couple of years ago Darth had a fling with a lady Wood Duck. He even left for a couple of evenings. However, he was always back with my flock of sheep, for breakfast.
I took pictures of my niece's pet bottle lambs for her, today. Her wether, Feste, has grown quite hefty and her persnickety ewe, Freya is regal, as ever. The ponies nicker and talk in low tones and the farm dog Ellie, is the picture of patience.
I have begun reading "The Spark," and browsing "The Spark Cookbook," on my Kindle. I have a house full of books, many cookbooks, but figure one more may give me a little more choice....especially before my grocery shopping. Definitely I will be making Salmon Patties since my cat is gracious to share his cans of salmon with me.
I also have been reading "The Radium Girls," with the Spark Book Club. That is a tough read as so many young women suffered in the painted dial industry before the dangers of radium were known. I am thankful to have had a fairly untumultuous existence.
Hmm...what else...last year's east barn garden is full of catmint, willows, mexican petunia, some squash and daylillies...I just love the returns...and the Frasier Holly is coming out in the lower portion after the horrendous Winter event. This year, tomatoes, cucumbers and herbs are planted on the opposite side. Well...off to the market.
I received a text as a group of support for a friend who has battled pancreatic cancer and all the connected issues from surgical removal of such. She and her family battled and won many times until she had reached the time period beyond known survival...an outlier. After an incredible journey the return of cancer is finally drawing her closer to the Savior's arms. Her daughter says while she cannot speak she smiles when she reads our texts.
I am home from shopping and very well stocked...just waiting for the return of rains this evening and looking forward to nap.
I am so excited...my sister has Netflix for awhile. We can watch some of the same entertainment and discuss. Meanwhile I have continued reading "The Spark," since I like to understand how great things happen....fascinating.
Since 3pm one family amidst 7 families that surround my property have been cranking out noise in the name of celebration that is not endearing them to me and I am sure to the families with young children who will need to go to bed soon. My duck came into the barn for what he perceived as a threat and my dog is on the far east boundary to escape the constant bass hammering and caterwauling. Even the nesting birds seem disturbed. I donned my noise cancelling headphones that I use with my tractor to get my outside chores done and I am in the house where the noise intrudes to some extent despite closed doors and air conditioning. I know it will end but it still amazes me.
