I am rejoining after many years. This year my doctor put me on a medication and I was able to lose 72 pounds but now have stopped losing with just the medication so now I have to start the hard stuff (exercising and dieting). I still have 71 pounds to go till I am at a healthy weight. I am a seamstress so I do a lot of sitting and not a lot of moving, so 2021 is my new goal to get moving!!

hello everyone- I am from wisconsin- been here my whole life. I am a grandmother that needs to take charge of my life. I am at the moment doing virtual schooling for my grand-daughter. Boy I have been out of school for a long long time. I am 72. Anyway that is not what I am worried about. My grand- daughter is ten years old and weighs 161 lbs. She is five foot tall. Her Mom is quite big close to 300 lbs I am guessing. She is just shy of 6 ft tall and my son is 6 ft.8 inches.

Hi everyone,
I am a Texas girl that has moved to Playa del Carmen MX. We retired here, and are stuck here because of the Virus. I miss Tx. and long for iced tea.--No iced tea here! The beaches are beautiful here, but they have been closed since March. I joined this team because I HATE EXERCISE!! and always have. It goes back to childhood. I ride a stationary bike when I decide that I have too. I have been a Type 1 diabetic since the age of 9. (58 years on insulin). I have been extremely lucky, I have had no complications. I have lost 50 pounds on SP prior to 2015, but it is back. There are 2 reasons for that--not much exercise and low blood sugars. I am working on the blood sugars with my doctor via telemed, but I need some serious help with exercising. I have a million excuses. Yesterday I started back, AGAIN! Rode the bike for 20 minutes, and worked in the yard for about 20 minutes. I just need some support . I am the queen of couch potatoes.

I am Amy from Texas. I know when I was active with Spark People back in 2006 -2009 I was in great shape. Funny thing... 2009 is when I created a Facebook account. I stopped going on to Spark People because ads were all over the place... and most of the groups were no longer active.

So I found y'all - an active group. I am not in poor health. I just weight a lot and want to not be a size 20 when I get moving into my 50's

Eventually, I will stop thinking I don't have to watch my weight

Hi, Liz here from Nebraska. I don't have many health issues, but I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I'm married, have five kids and three granddaughters. I like to learn languages in my spare time, and I love many types of music and comedy. I am doing plus-sized yoga and walking every other day.

I just did a 10 minute coach Nicole kickboxing work out in my 10 by 14 office. I have about a 3 feet by 6 foot area to do this in. I worked up a bit of a sweat. Cant do a jumping jack but half jacks work ok for now.

WFCHCHCGG welcome to the team!! WOW! I've heard of most that you mentioned, but there are a few I haven't heard about.

I know you said you haven't had a pain free day in years. Is there an exercise you prefer doing?

Hello. I joined spark with the goal of losing weight and hopefully improving my health. My medical conditions include Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis, Type 2 Diabetes, Depression, Migraines, Fatigue, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and Raynaud's Disease. I haven't known a pain free day in over 12 years, but I will not let that stop me. I look forward to making friends and being an active member of the team.

Hi Val!

I understand. It's like seeing looking for clothes and the "plus size models" are a size 6.

I've came across some videos on Facebook that are dance videos. Do a YouTube search for Body Groove. They are fun and energetic and not everyone in them are small or have the same mobility. She encourages you to change up the steps to fit what you're able to do.

Check some of them out when you get a chance and let me know what you think.

Hello folks! Val from Maine. I have been with SparkPeople for years, but I do not comment much. I have anxiety about chatting. I have chronic health conditions which include MS. I find SparkPeople to be helpful when beginning my day.

I have a statement/question and I am hoping people may have the same thinking. I get very discouraged with many exercise videos/articles about a healthy lifestyle because they depict women that do not appear as obese. How can I exercise with self help realistic videos? Does anyone have recommendations for video/sites that help with this?

Hey ya'll!

My name is Betty, and I live in Central Texas with my three snakes and husband. I love the outdoors, renfaires, and studying animals, especially reptiles.

Ever since puberty I've been bigger. My lowest weight was 200 for my wedding, and I would love to get back down to that weight. I was still curvy then, and I never wanna lose my curves! I can't wait to find like minded people in this group!

This is the third time hoping it is a charm. I am really trying to start by eating healthier since my diabetes is slowly taking over a good part of my body. I do good for awhile then keep falling back on the same path, Since they put me on insulin I have more of a sugar crave now then I have ever done. So fighting to stay away from the sweets is one of the problems.
I had joined a gym last year in Sept but that even only lasted for a short amount of time. I am good once I am there it is just getting the motivation to keep going. So I have taken up walking for now since that is something I can do while I am working at my job. My class reunion is in a few weeks and my daughter is getting married in August. Nothing like adding more stress to my life, but I have been finding ways to relax so I can sleep better at night.

I have 3 grown kids and 2 grandkids that keep me busy on my days off. I have lost 25 lbs in the last year and now I am trying again to try to loose some more but don't want to think of it as a diet but healthier eating. If I have to make my clients do it then so should I.

I'm new to this team, but certainly NOT NEW to being plus size. I had a wake-up call a couple weeks ago when I visited my sleep doctor (I have severe obstructive sleep apnea). During the routine check-in process, I discovered I weigh more now than I ever have. I knew I'd gained some weight because my clothes were getting tighter, but I never dreamed it was as high as it was.

I retired about a year and a half ago and basically became a lazy slug. I played computer games and sat in my chair and crocheted. Walking to/from chair to chair and from kitchen to living was about all the exercise I got. Even though I do a water aerobics class, I found any excuse I could to not go.

With that said, I'm back on the bandwagon. No more excuses. No more wasting time. No more putting it off. THIS IS THE MOMENT; NOW IS THE TIME.

Hello!

Im new to this group.

I am here on Spark to lose 178 pounds and improve my health. Along the way I am dealing with fibromyalgia, diabetes and multiple sclerosis, so I have severe fatigue and chronic pain as well. I know that could be improved by losing the weight.

I live in a small town of about 1500 people, not far from what was part of the Erie Canal. Some of my town is a National Historic District with all kinds of fabulous old houses. It's full of interesting people. I moved to New York State in 2010 and have grown to love it here.

I have one tabby cat named Stonie who is the light of my life. I've had him since he was a little kitten and now he is thirteen.. I named him Stone, for that George Jones song, "She's My Rock". (I didn't call him Rock because I didn't want folks to think I named him after Rock Hudson, LOL.) I also had a tricolor tabby named Rory who's Homegoing was last September. Pictures of both kitties are on my page.

I have a lot of interests including:

Cats, music, books, the Depression era, Irish things, spirituality, FLYlady, snail mail, antiques, country music, planners and baking.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hello Friends!

I'm a new participant in the group. I'm 36, and very much want to get as much physical activity in my life as I can. I'm a steadfast believer in the ideas behind Health At Any Size, though for my personal comfort and abilities, I'd like to weigh less. (All in progress.) I live in Central Ohio with my boyfriend and our feline and avian companions, and I'm a therapist and life coach. My official titles are a bit verbose, so in the interest of brevity, I'll spare you the lengthy version until another time.

I just created a daily check in topic for the message board, since the others seem to all be older or defunct, and I'd love to get to know everyone's day to day over there! I'm excited to be here, and meet up with lots of like-minded exercisers, and I can't wait to see how much positivity and support we can give one another!

Hi, I'm Amy. I'm 47 and have PCOS which means weight has always been an issue for me. The insulin resistance makes it really easy to gain and really hard to lose. My BMI was over 47 and so I talked with my doctor and was put on Metformin (a diabetes medication that works well for PCOS) and a mega Vitamin D dose (which was severely deficient) and started on SparkPeople again. Hopefully, working with my new GP will mean I'll get it off and keep it off this time. I'm watching my calories and working out. I'm using Jonathan Roche's BootcampHub for my workouts as they worked well for my sister who has lost 75lbs and is down to 299. With luck and perseverance, I hope to be in the 180 range by the end of August!

I'm not technically new to the team but I joined at a time when I wasn't being very active on spark. Well, I'm back again -- and looking for some motivation and support desperately.

I'm a 35 yo female who actually loves to exercise, but at 323 lbs that's really hard sometimes. My weight has fluctuated a lot in the last couple years, largely due to inactivity after surgeries and me not modifying my diet sufficiently. At the beginning of 2017, I lost 30 lbs by diet alone but I've stagnated since then. I have been slowly adding more and more activity back into my life. I have a lot of pain to contend with (don't we all?) but I'm determined to do this.

Before my surgeries a couple years ago, I enjoyed everything from hiking long distances to swimming to biking. I lost the ability to even walk much for a long time. I'm getting that back one step at a time. I still love to swim but I currently don't have pool access. Just this week, I fixed up my bike myself (thanks, YouTube!) and did my first test ride to work and back. I'm determined to become a commuter bicyclist despite my size.

I woul loooooooooooove to find someone others who like to workout but struggle with it to chat with. Beginning tomorrow, I'm going to try this 30-day beginner workout program: http://hasfit.com/beginner-workout-program
/

If anyone thinks it looks interesting and wants to do it "together" let me know! I chose it because I'm no stranger to starting exercise programs from the beginning anymore, and I really like how it eases you into it. Of course, it ultimately depends on the workouts themselves but I'm excited to try.

Cheers,

Good morning. I am new to the team. Have been on SparkPeople for awhile (a couple times) but this time, I want to get fit. I need to get him. My A1C came back at a scary 9.1. Doctor suggested I either add a third pill or an injectable to my daily treatment. Can't really afford either and I'm not ready for an injectable. Meeting with holistic practitioner on Friday. Looking to loose 69 pounds (currently huffing in at 219). Hate exercise. So that's a problem. I want to enjoy exercise. I want to look forward to yoga sessions and working out. I want to loose weogt, feel healthy, eat better, and be around for the next 20 years!

Hi, I'm new to the team. I'm 63 and have a lot of surgeries in the past 2 years. I think because of these surgeries I have lost a lot of muscle. It's difficult for me to get down on my hands and knees. I literally fall to the floor. (sad). In turn, it's difficult to get back up. I need to get some of that strength back. I also have fibromyalgia which is tolerable and I try to move as much as possible. It's so hot here that you can't go for walks well at least this time of year. Anyway, I need to get serious about my weight and my muscles. I can't blame anyone but myself. I knew if you didn't use it you'd lose it.

Hi everyone. I am Genny. I am 42 and am working on my weight. I have a condition called idiopathic intracranial hypertension that causes me to have some very bad days. In the last year I have lost about 150 pounds. I have not tracked my entire weight loss journey on spark, but I have really gotten into it in the last few weeks, so that I have a place to track my physical therapy.

I don't know what happened to all the people who used to post to this forum, but I am grateful for any information to do with how your knee replacement goes, because soon I will have one of my own.

I am also sorry no one welcomed you, I was hit by a truck and do to post concussive syndrome
I don't post all the time, only when I am having a good day.

Hi Barbara, It looks like this team isn't very active, I didn't get any responses to my introduction a while back.

Did your doctor give you any restrictions on what kind of exercises you shouldn't do?

I had PT for a pinched nerve a couple of years ago, and I saw several people at the facility using the recumbent bike after knee replacement.

You can still work your upper body without putting stress on your knee. If your gym has upper body resistance machines, you can work your biceps, triceps, back and chest muscles, all while seated. Or use the free weights.

Does your gym have a pool? Some of my friends walk in the pool or swim. You get resistance, but not a lot of strain on your knees. There are water aerobics classes where you use foam dumbells.

You can do an internet search for seated exercises.

Hi everyone I'm Barbara and I just had knee replacement in Nov. the doctor has just given me the okay to start back at the gym to exercise. I am a little nervous because I am overweight and still have some pain in that knee. Does anyone have any ideas what exercises I could do besides the ones my physical therapists showed me? I know walking is good and so are some of the stretches they provided me. I am excited to get back into the swing of things since its been 4 years since I have been at the gym. Any suggestions are happily welcomed. emoticon

It's always darkest before the dawn...it will get better!

Hi all, just joined this team, although I'm not new to Spark - or weight issues. I turn 65 next month, and have been hanging on to my baby fat for many of those years.

I have a question - I'm looking at buying a piece of exercise equipment that my local gym doesn't have. It's an exercise glider, similar to the Tony Little Gazelle. I have knee and hip problems, and the elliptical machines at my gym aggravate those issues.

I'm wondering if anyone has a glider, and if you like it - what brand do you have? I've looked at Brenda Dygraf's Slim Strider

Hi! I'm Johna. Pretty much always hated PE class and "exercise." My "tomorrows" are catching up with me, and my body has said, "You'd better get real, or else." I'm reconditioning my mind to appreciate what I've got, enhance it, and take the steps I need to for as long as I need to. Easing back into activity - going for moderation and learning to enjoy it. Walking, Wii dancing, occasionally plus-size yoga. I'm clearing out cobwebs, targeting my "yesses" and not apologizing for my "nos." Looking to find better balance and health in 2017.

Hi! I'm Emily. I'm not new to SP but new to this team. I need help!! I'm 29, recently engaged, getting married in April. My son just turned 8. My father, who I was super close to passed away November 22nd. Losing him crushed my world. I also just moved, my life has been a whirl wind the last few months. And all I've gained from these life changes is weight.
I need help. I need motivation. I need to get back on track.

Hello! I am starting this weekend with small changes. This weekend I "Ate the Frog!" and did some cleaning before settling in to the computer and TV shows. Cleaning = movement. I haven't really exercised this past year. A few walks around work here and there. I just tried a 10 minute Yoga Fusion video here on SparkPeople. I could do it a year ago. Today, I was very clumsy, sluggish, and some things were just downright hard! I could feel the strength that just isn't there anymore. What used to be my morning "go to" stretch is now a workout in itself. I'm trying not to be too disappointed, but rather to get a reality check of where I am now to get started. My goals this week are simple: 1) Find yoga or stretching that can move me comfortably into my day 2) Get out and walk! Just walk! No distance, time, or steps for now; just walk! 3) Breathe and enjoy the Me Time.

It will not be easy, but it WILL be worth it!

Hi - Im new to this team so I guess I will start with my age. I am 70 years young and I live with my cat, Tiger, I am going to start my exercise plan tomorrow, My Dr wants me to do leg exercises for my edema and my physical therapist wants me to do exercises for my rotar in my right upper arm. It is very weak, I guess that is a good way to start,

Hi, I am Tim. I was a single dad forever and somehow put on quite a bit of excess weight over the years. Kids are grown, and I am now 52, retired 4 years ago and emigrated to the Philippines. I live on a rice field 20 Km from the city :)

My wife cooks so well I put on more weight ha ha... So, now my back hurts all the time. I decided it was time to lose some weight. I got up to 115 kilo! (260 pounds?)

Been tracking my food for 3 weeks and lost about 4 kilos already! I try and walk at least 3 Km a day, hopefully 5 Km. Due to my seizures (an unexplained gift from the Navy) I cannot do strenuous exercise. Right now I walk and sometimes swim. It is monsoon season so sometimes the beach is not so friendly.

Only been back on SparkPeople about a week. I was using 'another site' and there was zero customer support and the community had a lot of "gym snobs". A shame really, as the site is attached to my favorite cyclist. :)

Hi everyone. I'm Karen and I hate to exercise! I've been working out in the pool, which I love, but we will be closing it this weekend. (I live in Vermont and the nights are getting chilly and the keaves are falling.). Hopefully I can get some ideas and encouragement from everyone.

New to the group; 5 month post Scoliosis surgery, difficult to exercise with rods the entire length of back and 80lbs overweight. Yeah and that's after losing 14lbs. I know it's going to take a lot of effort and time, its just so frustrating not to be able to do the normal exercises that many do without even thinking,...like just doing simple side to side stretching... me nope not happening with screws in pelvic bone. So please bare with me, I am not a wimpy whiny type person, but I am not normal either. So with that out of the way, what method of exercise should we explore next... water aerobics?

The pain of being overweight is soothed by the effort of exercise and eating healthy.
