Hi everyone!

I just joined SparkPeople at the beginning of this month, and I've been doing pretty well so far. I'd been on a diet since June 3rd, and had lost 15 lbs in about 6 weeks, but had a birthday party to go to and kinda went haywire after that and gained a few pounds back, so I joined SP out of desperation. Tracking my foods REALLY does help me and I've re-lost that few pounds and 2 on top of that. I'm just looking for self-discipline and maybe a little reinforcement. Hopefully this will do the trick. I'm tired of losing massive amounts of weight only to gain them back.

Hello, I am just getting started and would appreciate all the advice and support that I can get or give to anyone else. I welcome all insight. I have just turned 56, I am a mother of 4 grown children and 7 Grandchildren. I live with my husband of 37 years and my one son who is 30 lives with us. He has learning disabilities and is very involved in special olympics, as I am also very involved, by coaching, volunteering, chaperoning, and anything else that they need. With being involved in all this I feel I can be a better example if I lost weight, not to mention increase in energy. All help appreciated

ALWAYS & FOREVER MOVING FORWARD

Welcome!

I love the blogs also. And all the support. I don't like putting all my business out there either, but I found sharing in the SP community very helpful.

Glad you are here!

Hi Everyone! I recently joined to get support while I change my life. I have tried so many times to get myself heathly, that I dont want to make a big family announcement or put my business all over facebook. So I thought I would try here to support others and get support.

I am 38 years old and the closer I get to 40 the more freaked out I get...lol I want to be 40 and fabulous. I am a mother of 2, I am lucky to be able to work from home and am determined to get this weight off.

Feel free to email me and we can support one another.

Hi! My name is Lynn. I just joined SP yesterday. I was one of those kids growing up that heard all the skinny jokes. Then something happened when I hit my 30's. I had my child when I was almost 40 and never managed to lose the baby weight. Now at 61 I'm heavier than I've ever been. I'm also having health issues such as high blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides. Now I'm told I'm pre-diabetic. So...I need all the help I can get. I want to lose weight to look and feel better but mostly I want to be healthy.

Hi Everyone,
Glad to be 'back' at Spark-guess it's true that it IS a life-time journey, so I plan to keep up with journaling and tracking this time around for the long haul, not just until I lose to goal...I'm 5 years older now, but even in my 50's, I know I can do this-especially with Spark!!!

Hi everyone!
I just joined today and let me tell you, I could sure use some inspiration...I'm 41 years told, just weighed myself this afternoon and was the heaviest I've ever been in my life. I want to lose 20 pounds and run a 5k, not crazy goals, right? But I love my carbs. I'm going to try to get more active and watch what I'm eating. Would love a buddy.
Here's to all of our success!!

Hi, I am Tina, 40 years old. I am a stay at home mom to 2 boys (11 and 13). We are a military family. I am a stress eater. When I get stressed, I eat junk food. My mom joined Sparks a few months ago and is doing great so I decided to give it a try too. I just moved to a subdivision so it will be much easier to walk now that I have access to sidewalks. I am just shy of 200 pounds and want to work towards 150. I like the trackers, a nice visual to keep me going.

Sounds like you know what you need to do. Being here will help, lots of support with the tools and the various communities. I plateaued for a long time also, despite eating all the right foods. Then I mixed up my strategy. I ate the same foods as before, but certain foods on certain days, and it really helped me. Summer came and really helped me to mix up my exercise also.

Our bodies are very good at adjusting - either to the same exercises and same intensity, or to lower calories - to which it then sets a new homeostasis.

Hello... this is my third or so time back to this site. I know what's good for me but I've been having trouble sticking to it. I like eating good foods but I'm surrounded by poor choices and convenience. At this point, my worst days are better than how I used to eat all the time. I just have hit a point where I stopped losing weight despite exercising and I think I need to step it up a bit.... both with food choices and exercising. I can't believe how easy it is to put on a few pounds in a week although it took three to lose that same pound. Anyway.... I'm hoping to use the community here for accountability. I'm notorious for jumping into something with both feet and then losing interest within a few weeks.... I need to break that mind set as well as develop some more refined habits.

I just joined yesterday, my name is Mary and I am also over 40. The fact that I have actually tracked and been responsible for what I have eaten and for activity for 2 days in a row is encouraging. I have a long healthy weight and healthy habits track in front of me which is a bit daunting, but this site is a good starting tool to become accountable.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi, I am Candice. 54 years old, disabled after 7 spine surgeries, live with chronic pain and limited mobility. I am about 50 lbs over weight. I quit smoking a month ago, now the next lifestyle change is to get my weight under control. My walking is limited, but I am using a recumbent exercise bike. I actually got my heart rate up a bit today, woo hoo. I am hoping by keeping the exercise intervals at 10 minutes( a struggle to get to that right now) I can keep my pain levels under control and still exercise. I am also looking for local folks to walk in the pool with. I am brand new to the site and still figuring out how to use the trackers and work the message boards etc, but am hoping this helps me stay focused and motivated.

JVINCENT131 , I know, it just isn't fair, that our DH can lose with so little effort, it seems. We are just built differently, lots of things going into play. But we can do it too! Get your nutrition under control (80% of the game and will be the major player in Fat loss) and continue to exercise when you can (that will help with body composition and leaning out) and you will get there! emoticon

You have 3 built-in exercise partners! Play with them... and that will be awesome exercise!! When you pick up around the house, do it in squats. When you put things up, do calf raises. When you are waiting on the microwave to beep, do some wall push-ups. I do lots of these kind of exercises in my kitchen, and my laundry room. I also do a short set in my bathroom, it only takes a few extra minutes and nobody really misses me for an extra minute.

GMALUCKY13 , welcome! I was in the same boat, wanting to be around for my kids and grandkids, and not be a burden to them some day. emoticon

JERSEY75 it is good you already know your strengths and weaknesses. Tracking daily really made all the difference in my journey. I was starting to eat right, and tracking on my own, but when I finally started using SP (it took me two months after I signed up to come back around) the tracking just made all the difference! emoticon

LORIE-RN48 Glad you are here! I use to hate to walk, my ankles would swell and hurt. Getting some of the weight off really helped. It also helped to cut out things like wheats and other things that seem to trigger more pain in my joints. It is kind of trial and error, but food really is medicine. We have to find those foods that are good medicine, and cut out the bad medicine. And that can be very individual – even things that seem very healthy, like nightshades, give other people problems. I just have to remind myself sometimes, why would I want to knowingly take Bad Medicine, when I have the good medicine right here? emoticon

emoticon everyone!

Hi. I am Lorie and I am 48 years old. I currently weigh 235 and my goal is to be 125. I have arthritis in just about every joint and fibromyalgia. I recently strained my left foot and had to wear a boot for 4 weeks and could not work. I want to lose weight to be healthier and feel better. I am tired of being out of breath walking and in constant pain with the arthritis. The extra pounds do not help. I am an RN and work in a hospital. On my feet for 8 hours a day. It will probably take me a little while to figure out this site, but I will do it.

Hello! My name is Jessica. I am 24 years old, I've been married for 5 years and a stay at home mom to three beautiful children ages 8, 6 and 1. When I met my husband 6 years ago I weighed 125 lbs. As of this morning, I am at 177. Insert sad, crying terribly depressed face
-here-.

Soo.. I need to lose it! I have been trying to do it with my husband but that was even more depressing. He lost 40 lbs in 3 months. Just by changing the way he ate and now he is working out 4-5 days a week and continuing to shrink. I have been trying to eat right and exercise when I can.. with no result. So, hoping something like this will help. Loving the meal plans! emoticon

Hi! My name is Elise and I'm excited to be here! I'm 39, a stay-at-home mom to five kids (including triplets) and I currently weigh 142. It's really hard for me to find the time to exercise--really the only time is at night, which I hate doing, but I don't really have any other options right now. Maybe when the kids are in school that will change...! I also need to get out of the habit of "boredom snacking". I'm sick of being flabby and I miss having energy! Blah!

Hi Jess! Good for you for going without soda! Once I learned of all the chemicals, that was an easy cut for me.

Sweet tea was next.
Then fast food.
Then cooking more at home.
Then cooking more healthy things at home........... see how it just really snowballs??!!

Glad you are here!

Welcome!

I have a family to cook for also. I make sure we all have something we like, and I may not eat exactly what they are eating, but there is something for everyone. Overall, we are all eating much healthier.

With picky eaters, it may take a awhile to find a way to prepare something so that they like it. Just cuz they don't like it one way, doesn't mean they might not like it fixed another way. Don't give up! It is worth it to all your family to have healthy eating habits, and much easier to get the little one on track now, Start 'em young! And it will be good for him to see your example.

Good luck! emoticon

Hi' my name is Jess. I'm a mother of three and my oldest daughter is about to start playing school sports. I want to be a good role model for her show her that we all have some tough times( third time here at SP for me) but we can push past it and get it done. The last time I joined I actually quit drinking dr pepper for a couple months but seeemed to have picked that habit back up. Today is my first day without a soda but I seem to be doing very well. Ive had seven glasses of water today already and still have a few hours to go.looking forward to meeting you motivators cause I know I always need it!

Hi, my name is Laura. I have always fantasized about being a more in control and enjoying a more wholesome diet than I do now. My biggest pitfall is my husband who is supportive but has issues with food. He is a very picky eater to say the least. I also have a 3 year old son who can be a bit picky but I do believe that his is more age related.

I enjoy cooking, baking, knitting and making jewelry. Looking forward to having better success now that I am more determined to be successful. :)

Welcome!

You can do this. It is 80% nutrition, and many ppl lose all the weight they want by watching what they eat alone, no exercise at all.

Best of luck to you on your journey!

Hi all,

My name is Heather and I'm new to all of this, but I'm hoping I'll find the help and support I need to get some of this weight off. I have Ankylosing Spondylitis and have a lot of pain daily. I take Mobic and Humira just to function day-to-day. I weigh 216 right now and would love to get down to 140-150, but it's a struggle since I can't exercise much. I have reduced spinal mobility along with the back, neck, hip, and knee joint pain.

I work full time as an Executive Assistant, but I know my days are numbered for this as well as my disease has started to move into my hands. I am raising two kids alone as my husband had to move to another state for work. Life has a lot of challenges right now. I hope using this site will help me to at least get my weight under control.

Thanks for listening.

Hello all! My name is Lizzie and I'm an LPN, currently working to get my RN. I've hit a huge bump in the road; I've recently been diagnosed with PTSD stemming from some abuse in my past, I've had to take a leave of absence from school, and I'm currently about 70 pounds overweight. However, I have hope-- I'm seeing a new therapist and she's wonderful, my school and my classmates have been very supportive, and I'm starting the Virgin diet which is already working wonders for me.

I'm looking forward to starting this journey to reclaim my life and, as my mama says, "take the bull by the horns!"

The nice thing about this journey - No Gym Membership Required :)

There are lots of things you can do at home, from dvds, to youtube, to books like Body by You and Be Your Own Gym, bodyrock.tv Just all kinds of things.

One of the best things you can do is walking, and then mix in short sprints for like 30 seconds, and interval back and forth after a rest period. IMO, this combined with some resistance training just using your own weight is as good, and maybe even better than anything you can accomplish in a gym with chronic cardio and fancy weight machines.

Also, getting your nutrition under control is a great place to start. This journey is 80% nutrition emoticon

Welcome everyone!

I've cut my sleep down to 6-7 hours. There just isn't enough time in the day for work, kids, fun. I go gaming 1-3 times a week so I've been trying to squeeze a workout in before that. It worked for like a week and then I just stopped going to the gym. I need to get back to that... or just not game, which I don't want to give up. Like tonight I have about 30 minutes for a workout, it's not much, but better than skipping.

My kids are getting older now so they are less dependent on me, which is good. My 15 year old has been taking care of dinners all summer, that saves me about an hour after work.

Hi, everyone

I'm 23 years old full time student and full time worker and it's pretty hard to find free time, to go to gym. I'm working in IT field about a year now, most of my work time i spend sitting at my computer, so in this year I have gained about 15 kg. I wasn't in perfect shape before, but i liked myself, so my goal is to loose 15 kg and get my old shape or better one back. I don't have gym membership, so i will try to workout at home, it will be hard, cause my days is pretty occupied even in summer, i think i will short my sleep time to 6h, so i would have 1-2h to do some workouts.

P.S. English isn't my first language, so I'm sorry if my grammar isn't as perfect as you want.

Inspiration exists, but it must find you working. –Pablo Picasso

Hi everyone! I'm Kat. Losing weight on my own hasn't been effective, so I'm hoping joining up with others who have similar goals will motivate me.

Hello,

I just joined today so I don't know what I'm doing. I've never been on this website and it's kind of overwhelming because there's so much going on so I thought I'd start here.

I'm a 32 yr old stay at home mom. Last month I moved from a beach city to a 640 acre village in the mid west. I've put on about 10 pounds since then, when I had actually made the goal to lose12 before August. Well I guess I didn't take into account that I'd no longer have a gym membership, not to mention the stress of moving. The good news is that I've since lost 2, so at least the scale is moving back in the right direction and now that I'm settled in I can commit to focusing on my health. My challenge will be devoting time to at home workouts since I'm use to working out at the gym. I've gotten way out of shape in the past couple of months.

I would like to lose somewhere between 15-25 lbs, more importantly become comfortable in

I know exactly how you feel. I quit going to ballgames, quit riding my horse, quit going out with friends, quit going to family functions... I pretty much quit living. I was just waiting for my heart attack to come and get me.

One day, I just snapped out of it. Thank goodness. I have never looked back. I am not always perfect, but since this is a lifestyle, I have never once felt like quitting or giving up. It just is not an option.

Good luck to you! emoticon

My name is Dawn and I'm addicted to food. I have tried to lose weight many times and have lost only to gain it back. I am tired of missing out on life due to the fact that I'm embarrassed to go out and I can't walk more then a few feet at a time. I have a 10 yr daughter who I love dearly, but feel guilty because I can't be that fun mom. I want to be able to enjoy life and do the things that normal people do.

Hi Everyone!

I have tried losing weight many many times... I can't really say I've tried though because I never really get started. Last year I did good for a little bit using some system (I can't remember the name of it now), but it incorporated eating habits more than the actually dieting. I lost 15 pounds from that and then stopped using the methods. I'm going to get back to that.

I'm a gamer... more so now that I'm older and have more free time without kids. I'm talking about games with actual people, not video games (but I do play on the computer a lot). So most of my hobbies are stationary, sitting down. A lot of gamers are over weight, I don't want to be like that.

(I'll be at Gen Con next week)

My work is stationary too.. I'm in an office sitting for 8 hours.

I want to get down to 150 eventually.

I have a gym membership and a supportive spouse. I dont have children in my house and am in total control, I am trying to say...I have NO EXCUSES. I am physically able to work out, I love to cook. I have plenty of time. I am a bottom line kind of person. Feel free to reach out and Friend me.
