I am great at procrastinating, but I am ready to do this. I was thin, but when I turned 30 and my body gave me 10 pounds as an unexpected gift. When I turned 40, my kids graduated and moved out to begin their lives. All of the sudden I didn't have to chauffeur them, clean up after them, and set a good example by eating healthy. I also worked my way into a better paying less active job, began menopause, and started dating a chef. It's amazing how you wake up one day and realize you are fat. So this is it. Time to straighten up and eat right!!

Hi Dawnie, start slow, take your time. If you can only walk for 10 minutes then that is what you do. You can walk 3 or 4 times a day just go as far as you can. You will find your strength builds and your legs will hurt less. You can also try some strength training exercises to build up your muscles. Check with your dr to see what is safe to do, there are tons of exercises here on sparkpeople. There are some great seated workouts that might be helpful for you. Another thing to try would be water aerobics, it takes a lot of the stress off of your legs.

Hello! My name is Dawn I live in beautiful Florida and I HAVE to live a healthier lifestyle! I will soon be a grandma and will be getting married in 2019 (yay!) I currently weigh 220 and I don't really care about the weight number so much as to how I feel and look. I just recently "retired" and have oodles of time on my hands I guess I just don't know how to start. I tried walking but I can't walk very far without pains in my legs. I went to my Dr. and he told me just try to walk a little more each day. I really just want to feel better, look better and enjoy my life and family.
