Hello Erica, welcome! I second Kris's instruction -the Nutrition Tracker really opened my eyes and allowed me to finally lose the last of some stubborn weight. Nothing like accurately weighing and measuring to see what a portion size really looks like..

Hi Erica - welcome aboard :-)

I suggest that you take your time familiarizing yourself with the site, and make good use of the Nutrition tracker. Weigh all of your food for increased accuracy, and enter it into there because that way you will see where you need to start tweaking. Gradually aim for reaching the various goals set for you.

There are a few reasons why 'gradually' is the way to go. The two most important ones are that by making gradual changes you kindof trick your brain and stomach - they don't realize what you are doing, and before they know it, you have set up a good habit. That is the way to keep you on the healthy lifestyle journey for the long-term.

The second reason is that if you decrease your calories too quickly you will likely set yourself up for
light-headedness
severe hunger pain (as opposed to 'pang')
disturbed sleep IF you managed to get to sleep
nausea

Unfortunately, I ended up with all of those, and I only dropped my calories by about 250-350 per day. I had to go back up and go down in small increments, spending a few days at each level.

I've since reached my goal and have been maintaining for a few years now. I STILL weigh all of my food and enter it into the Nutrition Tracker. I am determined that I am going to stay there LOL!

Good luck,
Kris

Hi There, my name is Erica.
I just turned 45 and realized that I don't want to be like this anymore.. I had told myself that this is just how it is for me now. Well.... I don't like it!! I have lost weight before, and I can do it again, despite my changes in life and age and kids and all the other things I've been telling myself these past few years. I'm going to need help and dedication and ideas on what to eat!! LOL.. I'm happy to be here, excited and can't wait to meet some of you and get on the right track.
