I like to go to Ruby Tuesday. I take my own salad dressing and get the salad bar. I can have all kinds of healthy stuff with very few calories. Love it.

oh sorry misread it, we have a steak house in town and the family was going to go, nothing what so ever for non meat eaters, not even fish only small side salads and not much of that.

Hi, I applaud for watching out for your father in law but what would a small lean steak hurt, just keep the rest of his diet as low animal and fat as you can. He is 89 he will not be around that much longer

My Father-in-Law wanted to go to Longhorn Steak House for his 89th birthday. Hard to tell an 89 year old NO !!

I had fresh steamed veggies with seasoned rice pilaf and a salad. I'm sure the rice had some oil or butter on it, but the rest of is was very good. They also have a baked sweet potato that you can order without the butter, it is very good.

Last time I went out I just had a baked potato with some vegs on the side. I don't find a lot of choices where I live.

I try to get the salad bar or a salad with dressing on the side. I have been putting pickled beets or just vinegar as a dressing most of the time, unless it's a nicer place where I might discover a new take on a flavor. Our most frequented truck stop has a "stir-fry" over wild rice that I love, but I order it without meat, double the veg, and no sauce. Esentually, I get wild rice topped with a huge pile of steamed broccoli, snap peas, etc. I also will get sides of veggies as others have mentioned, but I have to ask how they're prepared, ask for them plain or steamed when possible. As with many bean dishes, if they used lard or bacon, I'll skip it. Even at Waffle House, you can get a big iceburg salad with carrots and red cabbage, but the smells make it hard to find that filling! Mexican restarants are very difficult for me with all the pork, shrimp, fatty beans, and cheese. I haven't found much I can eat unless it's a priceier place with "fancy" salads, lol.

I look for a salad made with veggies and fruit....and subsitute beans or something else for the meat. Tonight at Applebees I substituted portabella mushroom for chicken on top of my salad...at Chili's it was easy to get black beans. Light or fat free dressing on the side...usually go for a vinagrette

We live in a vegan/vegetarian friendly city, thankfully, so nearly every locally owned place has good options on the menu. If we are not here, then yep, salads are the best option with a veggie side dish or two. :-)

I try to stick to salads and grains, I like chinese but is so high in sodium, my down fall is dressing

I've started getting bolder about asking if it's possible to have food "my" way. Sometiimes it is. Sometimes it isn't but the people are usually nice about it. Another trick I've started is ordering just side dishes.

I don't eat out that often. Occasionally when I am out shopping with friends, but mostly I stick to salads and fruit. Sometimes they will have a vegetable plate or sides that are acceptable. If nothing else, a baked potato with no toppings. I will ask for lemon wedges for a topping.

I eat a lot of salads when I go out to dinner, and I find it much easier to eat at ethnic restaurants (Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese) than traditional American restaurants.

When I eat chinese I typically get szechuan green beans with tofu
Mexican means vegetarian fajitas, no cheese, add avocado
Japanese (tapanyaki) means soup, veg, more veg
Indian means tons of options, if I go to the vegetarian place around the corner. :)
