Hi All!
I got a fruit basket from the team too, and thank you!
To all the lurkers, glad you're here, and all you who post, thanks for the input!

I have been tracking my calories and exercise, but because I'm in Guam, where America's day begins, what I put in has been showing up as my yesterday. Well, I should have known Spark would have a feature where you can set your time zone. Now I'm entering my food and exercise on the right day, and that's a big deal to me, now that I'm tracking again in earnest!

Have a healthy Friday!

Thanks for the fruit basket, team! I definitely need a little more fruit in my diet. I am back to tracking full time again. Summer vacation from the school is a long break from routine, and I have been seriously guilty of falling off the good eating plan. But...I have been back on track the last few days and am ready to rededicate myself to eating right. Also, thanks for the smiley Donna. This is such a terrific team!

Hi Fabs - I've been observing but not commenting much the past few days.

Work is CRAZY - My boss is meeting with the CPA to develop an exit strategy, so I'm thinking I've got
2-4 weeks of work left.

OK - enough of that ! I think I'll blog later tonight to get rid of anything left over after the gym ;)

Hugs, Carolanne

Hi All! I've been AWOL from this thread too and sure have missed a lot.

I read the article on kettle bells when it was a feature that day and decided it wasn't for me either. emoticon I've been doing pilates and some walking with Leslie DVDs. I have not been able to weigh myself since June 25, and I'm dying to do just that, but haven't found a suitable scale yet. Maybe once I weigh in, I'll wish I hadn't! emoticon
Have a healthy tomorrow, Fabs!

Good morning Fabs! Although it's so dark and dreary here, it doesn't look like morning yet. Rain today and probably most of the week.
emoticon emoticon
I was supposed to meet up with a friend and do our 4-mile power walk, but woke up to rain. So I guess we're going to try for Friday.

Krissy, I left a note on your SP. Sorry to hear about your fitness minutes not adding in. Have never had that happen.

Hope you're all having a great day - no matter what the weather is your way.

Thanks for the response on the Kettlebells; looking at the different things, reading many different comments, and looking at YouTube clips, made me think that's not for me! I know it's all the rage right now, but with different physical issues I'm dealing with, and not really being able to afford a trainer, I don't think I want to move beyond my hand held weights for now. emoticon
DH & I went to the Lake today, and about 10 min into it, I felt my pedo! I forgot I had put it on first thing in the morning to get counting my miles, and usually I remember to take it off-not this time! I just knew it was ruined! I put it in the blazing sun, (and yes it was a blazing 100!) and it wasn't long I started seeing my numbers! At least for now, it is still working!

Hello Sparklers
SP won't add my minutes properly. I can add minute to yesterday, or tomorrow, but not to today. It's very frustrating. I put them in but the don't add on the ticker, it just stays the same. Very frustrating...any ideas?

Hi everyone! It has been a LONG time since I checked in on this thread. Summer has been crazy, but sadly, is almost over. That means back to the school for me! Somehow the structure of work makes it easier for me to stay focused on things like exercise and diet, so I'm kind of looking forward to it. Looks like everyone here is doing great. Glad to see everyone keeping up their sparking attitudes!

I second that about kettle bells. They are an AWESOME workout, but you REALLY REALLY need a personal trainer. You can do some serious damage if you don't know exactly what you are doing and how to control them.

Good morning! Oh I should have been more clear in my response about kettlebells. It looks like a good workout - for someone else. I'm sure I would hurt myself.

Just an FYI - My trainer does not care for kettleballs. She thinks they are dangerous, especially if you're working without someone who has experience with them. Let us know if you get them, I'm curious.

BUSY weekend, back to business today! Anyone used the Kettle weights? DH went to the sports store and saw a 15 lb one w/DVD, and thought about buying it for me, but decided to see if I'd be interested. I said I would, but I also don't know much about them. Anyone have any experience with them?

Happy Monday Everybody!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, full of family, good food, lots of healthy exercise..

We spent Sunday over at my FIL finishing up the outside renovations - pulled out 2 more palm trees, killed a million brown recluse spiders, captured and released another million garter snakes (it was quite the little eco-system in that root ball!), pulled out miles and miles of vines, etc. It is looking really good! We've repainted the entire exterior over the last month of Sundays.. neighbors are stopping by to compliment the work.

Anyhow, we are having a couple companies come in and bid on doing an estate sale - Dad went through all the stuff with us yesterday and we pulled things he wants to take with him when he moves to the "mother-in-law suite" at my bil's.. everything else is going to be sold. Better to do it now I guess. (He is 81 and VERY healthy and vibrant, but ready to give up the large family beach house..) Lots of laughing and walks down memory lane.

Saturday my ds and I went out into the woods and cut a new trail - all but the couple trees that require a chainsaw - so after working at Dad's all day, we headed back out there with the saw - but my poor dh was totally pooped. Couldn't get the thing started. Probably a good thing - if he was that tired (typical man - didn't just say let's do it another day - it was HIS idea to go back there and do it..) he might have really hurt himself. Men. Love him - but sheesh. (grin)

Have a Sparky day everybody!!!!!

Hi Fabs. I see everyone was pretty busy yesterday. I took a break from the computer - logged on for only about 10 minutes in the afternoon and another 10 or 15 last night.

Carolanne - I hope you get your washer fixed soon.

Today was super busy. Had new tires put on my car - went grocery shopping (a little). Went to the gym for 2 hours, had lunch at our favorite salad place with gym friends. Did laundry at my mom's (my stupid washer is still broken!) Napped for 30 minutes on the couch, cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, took a shower, went to dinner with friends (ate way too much of my veggie and grilled portabella sandwich) Now i'm catching up with Spark.

Tomorrow, DH & I are driving 3 hours to Orlando to bring Trevor his desk, bed and dresser. We'll take him to Walmart, stock him up on groceries (i always feel better if I leave him with healthy stuff in his fridge) We'll take him and his GF out for a meal, then drive 3 hours back home. The whole thing usually takes about 10 hours. I'm tired just thinking about it - but anything for the kids - right ;)

Not sure if I'll be around tomorrow - see you all Monday (when I go back to work at my stressful job that should be closing down soon)

Not sure if I'll have time to get some exercise in this afternoon; if not, will try for tonight. I try to take one of the weekend days as a break, so I may be exercsing even tomorrow! Just a load of things today...

Hi Fab Friends! (I'd say good morning, but it's so close to afternoon...)

I got up early, intending to get my workout in before the rest of the household was up, but of course I ended up here and 30 minutes later...
emoticon

I did finally kick myself off the computer and get my workout in. It was chilly this morning, so instead of walk/jogging, I decided to just ride the elliptical to get my cardio in. Guess what I discovered? When you haven't done something for a while, it's harder to get back into it. By that I mean, last winter and into this spring, I had worked my way up to 40 minutes on the elliptical. Today - after 20 minutes I was aching to stop. I did go a bit longer... but it looks like I'd better rotate it back into my workout plan at least once a week, so I'll be able to do a longer workout when it really gets colder.

Oh well - live and learn.

Have a great weekend everyone! emoticon

I can totally relate! My ds turned 21 in May and then a week later my baby ds turned 18! I officially have ZERO children in my home. (But still lots of laundry.. LOL)

Luckily, it's like anything. You adjust. I freaked for a couple of days, and now I'm back to normal. (IS there a normal?)

Sounds like lots of us are experiencing "end of summer blues". Good news... this too shall pass. Allow yourself to take a short breather. And then as fall approaches and the weather cools off and the kids get back into a recognizable schedule - we can jump back in with renewed vigor! Just don't vanish in the meantime. Keep checking in... we'll be here!

Sorry to hear you've lost your motivation Krissy...

Try not to be discouraged. Is it possible that this scale is just calibrated differently than your old one and that your weight hasn't really changed?

Happy Birthday to your DS and please don't feel old. My DS will be 24 in October. And I seriously don't feel old enough to have a 24 year old...

Hi sparklers.
I've really lost my motivation since my old scale broke. I'm actually going up instead of down. Only by .6 pounds, but still. It just feels bad to have made my goal and now it's gone again. I know it's just in my head but I feel like I don't even look as good. I haven't been super careful about what I eat this week. Then today is my sons 21st B-day. I feel ancient! There will be cake and food and his first "legal" drink. UGH! I'm still do exercising but it just doesn't feel like enough. Just can't seem to shake this feeling.
Sorry to be a downer.

Hi everyone!
Had a great and unproductive day again! Returned books to library, got some new ones. Did some reading...thought about mowing the lawn and weeding the gardens...OK I'm in a ...what I lost 10 Lb in two months and now I am just in a fog or something.

cbuffy
ooh about the cutting. I know it feels awful. I wish they had cut here. I am now living on the property that was the start of a major wild fire. In this case it was all dead or near dead beetle kill spruce. Fire breaks are a good thing, we did not have any. I lived a road away when this property started up. We did not lose are old house but it was pretty darn scary. Have plenty of items with airdropped repellent still on them and I thank the firemen! I am still looking at burned standing timber behind us and around us. We were lucky, had a training crew out the road and a new retardant machine(no one knew how to use yet) for air drops.
Sorry to go on, fire is ...something to be worried about.
Had seven cranes in the yard yesterday! Colts are flying now.

Ii'm on the road right now, on my way to see an old friend to a dog show. My friend is showing 2 of her dogs. I've never been to one of these things before so it should be interesting... I'm not sure how my calories are going to be yet, I had a big steak burger and medium fry for dinner. I guess I'll see.

Amy, you're pretty far north, aren't you? How's the weather?

Howdy Fabs! I've been lurking around the board these last couple of days.

Doing great - I've changed my workout from walking a zillion miles and doing yoga to doing T-Tapp everyday. (It's too HOT to walk 6 miles - my 3 in the morning is great, but in the afternoon it's 90+ with 90+% humidity and often raining..) I'm really seeing a difference in my hips, thighs, abs, upper arms - ok. My body is really responding well. I'm up a couple of pounds, but my clothes are looking much better.

They are getting ready to do a control burn in the woods behind my house. It's heart breaking. They are going through and making GIANT "fire breaks". Basically 4 lane highways. Wiping out all kinds of trees, tearing up existing trails, leaving this disked, torn-up mess behind. It's really sad. My ds and I have been walking out there every evening to see what they have done today. I understand burning. But I don't understand the preliminary devastation. Sigh.

My goal is to be fit, healthy and fabulous by my 50th birthday in November.

Hi all!
I love that you jump in and do the morning Huddle!

I was up at 3AM this morning getting the husband off and was happy that some one else was up and going too!

Susan, I am in Homer AK. "hamlet by the sea" I moved to Alaska by divorce. Mom got a bee in the bonnet and here I am!
Now, I was bad today, since getting up so early, I was out of wack. I just did not get out and walk or swim or anything. I sat on my BUTT and read a book, did not mow the lawn, did not cook, watched the cranes that graced our yard today and now after a great sunny day the fog as rolled in thick.

We do not get what we want by sitting around and saying "someday".

Good morning Fabs!

It's a beautiful, sunny day here today. Having checked the weather over the weekend, I made plans to walk today with my power walking friend. We did a 4 mile loop and it felt great to be out in the sunshine (without yesterday's humidity). I hope you're all getting your cardio exercise today too.

Have a good one!

Hi CREATEME1,

My Mom is from Wrangell in southeastern AK. She is glad to be in FL now because she doesn't like the cold! Where do you live? BTW, I know what you mean about the kitchen getting messy... my parrot makes a huge mess every morning and it takes me an hour to clean it up!

We're headed to the Sarasota, FL area at the end of the week and I just found out that there's a WHOLE FOODS store there (see my blog about grocery store addiction for further explanation) - I am soooooo pumped!! This definately makes up for the fact that we're visiting the father-in-law for a few of those days!!!!

It's a muggy one here today. I'm thankful that I got up early and did a little bit of my workout downstairs in the cool of the morning. Had to get moving (DD still has two-a-days for volleyball), but will finish with my strength training tonight.

Here's to making healthy choices! emoticon

I didn't see that, but someone told me about saying the "vowels" in an exaggerated manner while looking in the mirror and holding it for a few seconds, helps...

Hi everyone!
Have you seen that sold on TV jaw line exercise gizmo? I thought to myself OK that makes sense... then I went on line to check out face exercises. LOL I found a lot of stuff! But the biggest find was on featuring Jack Lalanne youtube. What a guy! So now I have a few more exercises to amuse me and help the whole body image too! I still Hula hoop, walk and swim and now I get to make faces! How fun is that?
Our crane family, the baby flew tonight, first I have seen, across the drive and down into the yard, about 12' or so. Good for him/her.
Hope all are happy and doing well with what ever you are doing!
I am new to your group!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Deborah- maybe there will be a challenge that's more applicable to you soon. Meanwhile, it sounds like you're getting a lot of exercise in anyway. Keep up the good work!

Krissy- good luck with your new goal!

Hi all
My new goal is 125#, with the extra weight my new scale gave me, I have about 2.5 pound to lose! Here we go again.

Hi all - Great going! Always inspiring to check in here and see so many others also focusing on their health goals.

Just want to say that while I liked the idea of a fitness challenge, I use an elliptical and don't even bother looking at distance registered. Although it's a good make (Kettler - and we had to assemble it ourselves), these things are so variable, and I have no way of testing it. I don't have a car and so haven't yet estimated how long my runs are. So, time challenges seem to work better for me than distance/miles. emoticon

Hi Fabs!
Just a quick note, that I've got no internet at home and will be on only sporadically for a while.https://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/t

Going to go update my August mileage minutes while I've got the chance.

Spark on!
