I have found Geneen Roth books to be very helpful-try the older ones at your library "feeding the hungry heart etc, she really tackles emotional and stress eating in a differ way that doesn't make you thin but clears your head of attaching food to the emotions. I'm in similar weight/height/health shoes.

Great words!!! We can't give up!! We have to keep trying no matter what. I've been on so many "diets" and have given up more times than I like to admit, but getting back up and trying again is all that matters!! Since January, I've been on a new track, and there have been weeks where I didn't lose, or may lost just .2... or even gained a pound. But, I realize that my body is going through a big change... and it can need time to catch up. Don't be discouraged. Sometimes a good honest review is just what you need. But, know that even when you do everything "perfect", there will still be weeks that don't go as well as you hope. You sound very motivated! ONWARD!!! You can do this!!!

SMCLEANO, it's great you are getting your ducks in a row and getting back on track! The hardest part, believe it or not, was deciding to make this commitment!! I look forward to following your success, modifications, and swapping unhealthy for healthy choices. I would recommend the Sweet Tooth challenge. You can take it slow or go all out. But it was a big help for me. I'm finishing up week three tomorrow and start my final week. You can go to my SparkPage and see my SparkTeams if you want a quick shortcut to the challenge. Look forward to seeing you post again.

a year ago I had lost 40lbs and was hopeful. Now I have gained it back and more.
I sit at 360lbs at 5'2". Ashamed and discouraged. I have some health issues that have impacted this and am in a lot of pain from back and knee right now and don't want to be on meds for these. But of course the pain further impacts my mobility.
Saw a cardiologist yesterday. How embarrassing for him to be having difficulty moving my seat etc.
His words were if I don't do something about the weight it will cause my death.
I am 3x the weight I should be! he reminded me.
I know/knew that but I am in such a spot. Exercise is hard, food is good. My family wants me around.
I have been watching my sister fighting an aggressive cancer for almost a year with courage and determination but for some reason I cannot fight my desires for chocolate over life. Something is truly wrong with me!
I plan to be back to sparkpeople and can use all the support I can get.
I am waging war with my desire for food.
any advice welcome!

I love how people can make a difference...with just a smile or a word of encouragement and kindness. We have to love ourselves..regardless of the weight we are. I know that when I step on the scale I am hopeful...I am trying so hard to see the small things. Some days are honestly better than others. Today, I will exercise for at least 10 minutes. My scale hasn't moved, and I have been doing whatever I want lately...this is going to change... NOW...it has to if I want to live to see my kids grow up and see grandchildren (or grand dogs ;-) )We have to help each other..thanks for letting me rant emoticon

how amazing is life when each day we are blessed with new beginnings. just because we get discouraged we are not defeated. it is then we much search our character for the strength and power to push through. emoticon emoticon

Soooo know what you mean. It is easy to get frustrated at that freaking scale, I know! For me, as a Christian, I will often implore God after a not-so-great weigh-in... "Why?! Why would you not want me to have success with this so I will be motivated to keep on trying?!" Since starting this current journey with SparkPeople, I've done more self-examining than I have in my life. I can almost always find a reason for not having the success I want. Sometimes, however, it makes absolutely no sense! I know I was SPOT ON all last week - never went over my calorie/carb limits, exercised 3-4 times... WHAT IS GOING ON?! It's nice to know I'm not alone with this frustration!

We have to stick with it. There will be plateaus. There will be back-slips. WE CAN DO IT! emoticon

Wow, I really love the positive attitudes. I am pretty negative with myself and when I make a mistake I am pretty hard on myself and I know this leads me to more over eating. I have this thought that I have to do well all the time and if I slip up then I punish myself by binging. I really want to change this. I'm so happy you can turn it around and just do it differently without beating yourself up. Yay.

I think sometimes you need to bend your thinking in order to stay positive. I made some really poor food choices this past week ... chinese, calzone and Arby's all in one week! Rather than turn it into another day of crappy eating, I chose to focus on the four days I made really good food choices. ... and I never hit plateaus, I just move into mini maintenance phases :)

I get discouraged every day! When I feel that way I look for a change I have made in my life since I've started the program. For example, if I ate a bunch of cookies, I say to myself "Civilsparky, you can get out of the car easier than you could 3 days ago, you're doing great!" Just keep reflecting on the very small progress steps you have made. emoticon

Awesome attitude to have. I believe that you will have a great weigh in next week

The courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

Momma said there'd be days like this.......right? Today was my weigh in day and the needle on the scale didn't move. I talk more about this on my blog this morning. I just want to encourage others on here who are struggling not to give up. I personally had to review the past week and get brutally honest with myself about some things. Hopefully by tweeking a few things next Monday will show results. Hope you all and a good day, be blessed and DON'T GIVE UP!!
