Hi gals

Susan maybe Aery won't poop in her panties anymore seeing as how that caper ended the pool activity. If she wasn't in diapers she would likely train a lot more quickly but what business is that of mine. None!!! Nice that you had family for Father's Day at your house on Sunday but sorry to hear your body wasn't happy about all the extra duties and maybe food and drink!! Take care of yourself for a couple days and you will be good as new again.

Yes, Kris your post was a little hard to read !! Odd that should happen after it was posted.

My heart goes out to Judy as she journeys through yet another cancer. I pray the chemo kills that dratted disease and stays away forever.

Caz, not sure if you are lurking but I went on the FatSecret site, joined up but not sure I will stay. I thought the challenges they referred to were like the 5% ones and the Nutrition Tracker, although beneficial is not quite what I was thinking about. Guess I'm just to used to Sparks one but maybe I didn't need all that info in the first place.

Saturday was Day 1 of the 5% Challenge and suddenly my scale is going the wrong way after 2 weeks of watching what I eat and portion sizes. What the heck!! Guess I'm eating more than I'm aware of so I'd best take a closer look at my portions. Grrrrr

Yesterday I spent most of the day looking out the kitchen window. About noon we realized a Whitetail Deer was in the "natural" part of our side yard and with her was the tiniest fawn which was not moving very far nor very fast, still wobbly on its legs. I could see it had moved under the fence where the grass was tallest and mom just continued to graze and eventually walked away then later in the afternoon she came up the driveway from another direction. She went into the back yard and hid behind the spruce trees nibbling a little bit but mainly just cleaning herself and cautiously watching for intrusion. Finally, she jumped the fence and headed into the pasture. I didn't see her come back for baby and believe me I watched right until it was too dark to see. She may have come back while I was in the garden weeding and feeding the horses after dinner, not sure but I sure hope she picked up baby and went somewhere safe, like into the bushes just a short distance from the yard. It is normal for them to leave their babies for most of every day until they are at least 2 weeks old at which time they will be strong enough to flee from danger with mom. Mom and baby are exclusive until baby is 12 weeks old and then it is weaned. Wow they have to grow up fast. No wonder their survival rate is very low, something like 40%. This mom had been hanging around the yard for 2 or 3 weeks prior to giving birth so she must have thought it was safe here. Pete thinks she probably gave birth to sometime during the night, Saturday not a stone's throw from our house!!! I can tell you the horses were sure interested in her when she came up the driveway. She was in no hurry and didn't seem to be overly cautious. I'm also back in the business of trapping gophers. 13 so far. They are such a menace and do a horrific amount of damage to pastures and grain fields. They don't eat the plants/grasses; they eat the roots which in essence ends the life of that plant for the current year. They love being in my garden!! So no criticism please of my trapping and disposing of the little beggars.

Going to be a hot one today so I will be catching up on household chores today seeing as I got nothing done yesterday except enjoy the deer!!!!

Good morning Ladies,

Kris your message was normal after you posted it but when I went back in the next day it looked like this. Definitely a snafu in the system.

We had a wonderful day yesterday celebrating Fathers Day with the family. Our barbecue was a big success and everyone had a good time. I will say that I was totally exhausted by the time everyone was gone and my body was aching so badly but it was worth it just to have my kids, grandkids and great granddaughter here to share together as a family.

Hailie and Avery had fun playing in the kiddie pool we set until Avery pooped in it. That was the end of the pool. It was time for dinner anyways. Before the incident Avery had a diaper on but it was so funny as it filled up like a balloon.

Her diaper was so filled with water she could hardly walk LOL. so I said just let her go in with her shorts on. They had not brought a bathing suit. The rest is history LOL. Avery is slightly delayed in the potty training but I'm sure she will trained by the time her 3rd birthday arrives.

Hailie ended up staying the night so she is still here this morning and I want to keep her for the day until granddaughter comes home from work. I promised to take her to the park to play.

The sun is peeking out from time to time but there are a lot of clouds as well. It is quite breezy out there so no bike ride today as it would be too hard against the wind and with the way my body is aching I think it would be worse. I will settle for a lengthy power walk in the afternoon once Hailie and I get back from the park.
Wishing everyone a great day and an awesome new week ahead.

Evening guys
feeling much better thanks for your concern, well enough and confident enough to go shopping for a snazzy corner dining set for the canopy with a rise-n-fall table. I had wondered if they did such a thing and googled.........ooohhhh too much choice LOL.

Sue thanks for passing on Judy's message, good she has such good friends locally to support her. We had a river of water going down our garden path yesterday it was raining so much, never seen that here before. Sounds like your garden is coming on in leaps and bounds. I feed our birds year round, but the nearest thing we get to hawks is bloody SeaGulls; bullies and greedy. We now have a "cage" ( the old chimney guard) over the food so that the largest bird that can feed is a pigeon.................HA. You should see how frustrated the gulls get. HOURS of entertainment.

Verna flippin' eck woman.................I feel faint LOL ........Now this should make you giggle
www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_DdmDrf-TM
Glad your gym sessions are making you feel better, yeah but you keep safe !!

Kris the wildlife here is pretty boring too. Once had a roe-deer manage to get into next door's garden over a SEVEN foot fence........when it was cornered it jumped back over into our avenue into the arms of an RSPCA man who'd been called. Result! Yeah Soz, everyone knows New Zealand lamb can't be beaten,,,,,,,,,,,I humbly apologize LOL

Well............what a day, last blog posted, got all my old personal blogs deleted, window shopped for the corner suite, took in my grocery order............How ever did I manage with doing a full day at work!!!

Night night xx

I'm glad that we don't have birds of prey like eagles, in NZ. We don't have alligators, crocodiles, snakes, lions, tigers, bears etc. etc. so I guess in a way we are really lucky where it comes to our pets and to the farm livestock.

Caz - I hope that your 'tummy troubles' are over, but HOW DARE YOU blame LAMB!!!! lol! I LOVE it and in fact, had roast lamb for my dinner tonight.

I'm glad that Judy has sent an update. It sounds like she has a couple really nice events to look forward to.

This a.m. it got really warm all of a sudden (tucked up in bed) and when I read the on-line news later in the day, it turned out that there was a tornado in Auckland at that time - 83.41 km / 51.83 miles in a straight line - that caused quite a bit of damage (by NZ tornado standards.) It resulted in a death, too, sadly.

I messaged Judy today and asked how she was doing and just got a response.
See below.....................................
....

I am feeling pretty good most of the time
Always a few down days a couple days after chemo. I am going to start having chemo at my local hospital now so not as many trips to Fargo.  Will see the doctor via internet. Some friends, my choir and my kayaking ladies are having a benefit supper for us next Friday, and all my siblings are coming for a reunion next weekend, so I'm looking forward to both. Thank you so much for the thoughts.

You last two posts have made me smile all the way through them. You seem to be so happy and upbeat.
3 days in a row to the gym is great! Although I don't go to a gym, do have all the equipment here at home needed for ST. I used to go to a gym years ago and it was great while it lasted but they ended up closing and I was young and decided to go back to school to get my nurses degree then.

I am so glad to here that Kulka is feeling a bit better and socializing with her pen pals. Poor sweetie though crying for her lost baby. guess horses do have feelings of loss just as we humans do.

I'm so glad everyone is still taking advantage of this team chat site on SP.
I have to go bake cupcakes now for Sunday's bbq so willl bid everyone a good night.

Don't have a heart attach or anything everybody but I'm about to post 2 days in a row Woo Hoo

Caz, Maybe it was that beer you had with dinner that sent you and Pete off to the loo in a hurry. Just kidding. I hope you both are over it by now and yes, good thing for the second loo!!

I am wondering if dogs teeth feel nice and clean to them like ours do when we get them cleaned and polished. Do they walk around grinning??

Deena, I passed on your diclofenac hint to one of the girls at the gym today. Seems this Morton's Neuroma is affecting a lot of people. This gal has had it for a number of months and already has been using the ointment for her hip so she said she is definitely going to be using it on her foot. I just got my ointment yesterday and put it on as soon as I got home from the pharmacy and again after my bath last night. I put a sock on to go to bed cause I didn't want it on my sheets. Pete calls this site Smart People and I have to agree with him. We are smart and have all kinds of hints to pass on to each other. I must check to be sure I have your e mail address Deena cause I want to keep in touch with the few of us that chat here on a regular basis.

Susan, those darn hawks will pick up small dogs for sure and a bald eagle well, they can pick big horn sheep off a mountain so a wee dog would hardly be noticeable to them. I like daylilies as well. It's a good thing they spread because they are true to their name, their blossoms, while lovely, only last a day. Every year I buy myself an Easter Lily and put them out in my garden and I just noticed last night that one of mine is going to bloom. It is short in stature but it has buds. I absolutely love their fragrance so I will be out there sniffing my heart out. I have Four O'clocks again this year and while they take up quite a bit of room, I love their scent which of course, what else. is very fragrant after 4 O'clock. They reseed but for some reason the seeds didn't germinate a couple years ago and I didn't bother with them again until this year. Flowers are beautiful and always make me happy although, I seldom cut and bring them into the house, except for lilacs and I cut HUGE bouquets every day because we have several bushes in the yard. If you want my doves, Susan you are welcome to have them. They coo coo coo and drive me coo coo plus they are the dirtiest bird we have except for those darn magpies which I absolutely hate with a passion. Kulka is doing ok so far, eating and drinking but she is still very swollen and has a slight discharge now so today we will give her more pain meds and another shot of long acting antibiotic and continue keeping a close eye on her. Her mood is still good, in fact she has been more friendly the last few weeks. Usually I have to corner her to get my hands on her but up until yesterday at least, she allowed me to pet her out in the wide open pen. She absolutely hates the taste of the pain med and she is not a peppermint girl so I can't even quickly give her a couple just to get the taste out of her mouth. Poor Kulka, I feel bad for her. The first day she was really not happy at all. She segregated herself from her pen mates and was calling for her foal, brought tears to my eyes to see her plus she wanted no part of me until I brought her some grain and pulled lovely green grass for her which enabled me to talk to her and give her some lovely strokes. But she is being friendly with her pen mates now so that's a good thing.

I've been to the gym 3 days this week and can already feel the difference in both my physical and mood. I wasn't aware that physically I wasn't doing so well but was well aware of my state of mind. Heard on the radio this morning that Alberta will be fully open with no restrictions as of Juy1 because the BRIBE million dollar lottery has encouraged 70% vaccination. Have no fear though we will not be participating in any big get togethers for Canada Day and definitely not Calgary Stampede seeing as there will be no Chuckwagon races this year and there were none last year. The Chuck people have been training their horses all spring and Stampede had the gall to announce they weren't holding the races due to such short notice to the drivers and they likely couldn't get their horses ready in time for Stampede. Shows just what they know!!! It won't be long now that they will get rid of any rodeo altogether. Up until now they have been cashing the huge Agriculture cheque they get every year notwithstanding they have cut back on anything relating remotely to agriculture.

Well, I have had a runaway haven't I girls. A sudden attack of verbal diarehea (Now how the blazes do you spell that word anyway) Looked it up --diarrhea LOL

Good Morning Ladies,

Caz, I hope you and hubby's tummy troubles will be short lived. Looks like lambchops may have to taken off your menus from now on.

Deena, good luck with Tess's dental cleaning. I am still waiting for my veterinarian to start doing non essential surgeries and dental cleaning again. With the lockdown he was only taking cases that required immediate attention and said that Tyson could wait a bit longer. At least he and Sassy don't have bad breath just some tartar buildup.

Verna, all the best with your 5% challenge. You can do it kiddo. How is Kulka doing? hope she is still ingood health after losing her foal and no infection has set in.

We have rain today after three beautiful sunny days. WE can still use it but it feels rather cool out there today although the temp says 70F. The breeze is cool.
More free water for the garden and grass that is filling in nicely now. By July the back lawn will should look as if there was never ever any big machines that went through here.

I purchased 2 Daylilies the other day and have planted one in the garden box and one in the garden. My daughter kept forgetting to bring me some sunflower seeds that she had so it became too late to put them in. The garden box has no bottom so if they have long roots they can grow into the ground below the sol we put into the box.

We started putting bird seed out in our feeders a few days ago to bring back some of the doves and other pretty birds we had not seen in a while. Yesterday as I was pulling out of the driveway a huge hawk came into my back yard chasing a bird. I immediately got out to check and see if my little dogs were in the house. The hawk had a wingspan of about 5 feet and Im certain it could have lifted either of my dogs that are under 20 lbs. Luckily they were indoors. WE have a bunch of them that hover over our area daily and when they do, we take the dogs in. WE now also have bald eagles in our area so the dogs are usually never outdoors without us checking for the skies. They never stay outside unless we are out there and come in as soon as they are done their business. While I love the hawks and eagles, I am not about to feed them with my pets.

IT doesn't look like I will get outdoors for fitness today so I am going to push for getting some strength training started. I have been so lack with it that it has been almost non existent for the past two months. I absolutely have to get back to it and stop focusing as much on the cardio. I don't want to lose what strength I do have or my balance.

Well, I'm off to get some breakfast.. Wishing everyone a great day emoticon

Deena nice that you could enjoy your walkies more, finally some rain for you. I hope and pray Zack is soon home hun, that trip will give him something to look forward to for sure. What a peculiar thing for your DIL to do, oh well, good company, good food!!

Sue we almost got it all done. It was getting late so we packed up and ever since we've had nonstop rain!. Still we know pretty much where we want the architectural plants in their container so sit. WTG on your cycling.

Verna the checkup went well as far as the nurse was ALLOWED to say, no change from last time........i.e. clear. I like the sound of your meal, yum. AND I see you've been keeping active.........you must clock up some fitness minutes!! Better luck with your squashes!!

Raining here and just as well, we've both got ahem..........tummy troubles. The only culprit could have been the lamb chops last night, although they looked and smelt okay and were in use by date. But I'm glad we've got two loos is all I'm saying.

Verna, great to hear from you. I sure hope the Diclofenac eases that foot pain. I couldn't walk on the treadmill without it. You reminded me that we have a spaghetti squash in the frig drawer that needs cooking. We LOVE leftovers which we always have because Ron cooks for a family of 5 just for the 2 of us.

Nothing new except Tess is on her way to the vet's for teeth-cleaning so she'll not offend when she's shoving dog toys in our faces or going in for a quick, unexpected lick across our cheeks. Ewww...

Well, I'm off to get a start on my day. Have a good one. emoticon emoticon

Well, it looks like the world is still revolving here on the 50+ Maintainers club. Caz is a plantin and once in a while she takes a break to catch a few rays whilst laying on her back on the chaise lounge. Her hubby Pete got his lookers checked a few days ago. How did that go for him Caz? Susan is peddling her arse all around her town on her new bike, that is until she overdid it and got a little ouchy and had to take a break for a minute. Kris, Kris the Kiwi is raisin hell at the facility her sister is in. I sure hope you got them straightened out. I think you could climb into her bed and those nurses wouldn't even know the difference. Wouldn't that be a hoot. Get out of bed grab that walker and head down the halls and run right over the first nurse who stepped out of line!! Just kiddin here, most nurses are doing their best under conditions not conducive to being jolly. I do not envy them their jobs. Which brings us around to Deena who is battling her own battles plus worrying about Zack. I do hope that they decide which tube to use for his nutritional needs. That will be a whole new routine for his moms. Gosh they did take on a big responsibility and I sure take my hat off to them. Oh wait I don't wear hats, but ya'll know what I mean. We too had a call from one of our daughters informing us she was bringing dinner over. Chicken, pasta and potato salads, coleslaw in a bag to which I only had to add the dressing, buns and a huge watermellon which I insisted she take half home with her. That was Tuesday night and tonight we had leftovers of the same with still some leftovers. I love leftovers, makes for easy meal preparation that's for sure.

Well, that about brings things up to snuff doesn't it? If I missed someone I apologize but this brain ain't as good as it used to be nor is the body!! The gym opened up a wee bit this week. I went on Tuesday and again today, worked mostly on the machines which is ok and of course wrapped up both sessions with some good stretching. Hoed in the garden again today -- now that's a back killing job and it is never ending. I've never seen so many weeds ever. My zucs never did show up so I planted more seeds plus spaghetti squash (I cooked my last one from last year and just took the seeds out of it and plunked a few in the ground) I'll let you know how that worked for me within the next week or so!! If they aren't up by then that means they ain't a comin up.

P.S. Deena, I refilled Pete's prescription for Diclofenac today and put it on my foot when I came in from hoeing. He had an old prescription lying around here which was well past it's expiry date so I marched into the pharmacy and asked, Nicely, if it could be refilled and my little Egyptian pharmacist smiled and said he would even though it's been 2 yrs since the Doctor prescribed it. He is such a sweet little guy, always smiling and oh so cute!!! I make a point of stopping by the pharmacy when I'm in the store just to say hi. It's great having the pharmacy in the same store as I buy groceries, especially in Covid times.

Ok I'm done now, heading out to face that dang wind while I water my flowers. Have a great evening all. Catch you down the road. Oh yeah, the last 5% Challenge starts on Saturday so I'm going to give it my best to lose 5% of my weight in 8 weeks which is no small feat I might add. Toodaloo.

Good morning.
It looks like the rain has stopped for today. Everything is nice and green now....for a while.

Susan, I hope you were able to get in a nice bike ride without being blown over. It's so great being able to finally visit with people (vaccinated) . I don't think any of us will take small things like visits for granted now that we realize those are big things. Hopefully, the bike rides are not aggravating your hip? I love a good steak and potatoes but like Brian, Ron usually thinks I can eat the same amt as he. Susan, we bought Tess some shoes for the hot sidewalks. She looks dorky and high-steps at first like a thoroughbred.

The oddest thing happened last evening. Our DIL called to ask if she could bring food over to eat dinner with us. We'd only made a pot of beans and cornbread but said "sure". She, her dad from New Jersey, and Livvie came over with all their leftovers, warmed them up, and while we ate our beans, they ate their food. I guess she's running out of things to talk about with her dad who is visiting for a few weeks. LOL.

Kris, hopefully, your sister can have her surgery soon and will have no complications.

Zack's test had to be postponed until today, then a decision about which tube for nutrition he'll be discharged with. He's down to 81 lbs. A strong wind would blow him away. Since he is 5 foot tall, you can imagine how skinny he is.

I hope you all have a nice day. It'll only top 88 today. Yea!

Good morning Ladies,

its a beautiful sunny day here with just a mild breeze.
I got out yesterday for a 10 mine ride only as the wind was strong and it was a bit difficult fighting it but I sis also do a 3 mile power walk after dinner so I felt good about my daily activity. I had a great visit with my friend yesterday and she was really happy with the curtains that I finished for her.

Deena I'm glad you have finally had some good rain to help with the growth of your beautiful gardens and cooler for enjoyable walks with Tess. I always worry about Tyson and Sassy's paws when walking them in the summer so I will often go to the park where the grass protects them and it is merely a few houses away. I totally understand about hubby's working on expanding our waistlines. I am constantly telling Brian not to buy certain trigger foods that neither of us need.

I have to admit that the dinner Brian made last night for us was very healthy although portion size was too large for me and I gave half to him . He barbecued steak and did baked potatoes while had had me cook up some peppers onions and mushrooms. I also added a few Chinese noodles to the veggies and it was delicious.

Kris I do hope your sister will do well with the hip surgery and give her a better quality of life. Just wondering if you were a drill sergeant in the army at any time LOL. I most likely would have said the same things to my sister if she wasn't abiding by the safety measures re: using the wheel chair. I am always on my aunt and my friend to use their walkers instead of weaving while they walk and almost tumbling over. Both of them have balance issues and I fear they will eventually have a fall and break a hip.

CAZ, you sound like a lady on a mission and I hope you were able to get your borders n.
I am getting ready to go out cycling again and with the low wind I can get at least 20 miles in,

Have a great day everyone and may it be filled with smiles and laughter.

Good morning.

I hope your weather is what your need for your plants and whatever other plans you have for the day.

We’ve had thunderstorms for 2-3 days, but our dry, crispy grass is green again and my marigolds are bushes! Our two tomato plants are yielding several a day. I’m going to dry seeds to see if I can start a plant in a large pot. One is a San Marzano tomato which produces small elongated tomatoes that are low in acid and are delicious. The plants are hard to find so I’d like to “preserve” this one as long as possible.

The break in the rain made walking Tess in the evening actually pleasant because it was cooler, low humidity! I was able to get in over 10,000 steps which is my goal but it’s not often achieved lately. Often it's too warm to walk her on the sidewalk for fear of burning her paws.

I’ve had an online WW acct for a while so I need to start getting my money’s worth. It works if I do it but it’s hard since Ron does the cooking and he seems to be working on expanding us both. He gets defensive if I try to “curb his enthusiasm”. I’d like to check out My Fitness Pal. I need accountability to someone other than myself.

I hope Gracie is healing as well as the male horse’s leg. I’m sorry but the name escapes me today.

Zack is having an upper GI today and something else. He’s lost 8 lbs in a month’s time. Stick & bones. The plan is to hopefully discharge him in a day or so but whether it’s with an N/G or an N/J tube they don’t know. They’re doing a strict Intake & Output for 24 hrs since he seems to be “putting out” double what is being taken in. Honestly, there are times when I’m happy his biological mom is no longer on this planet because I’d want to strangle her for leaving him with birth defects and one medical disaster after the other. Ron promised to take him to the LEGO store at Disney Springs when he gets stronger. That kid loves his LEGOS bu he also has essential tremors so putting things together requires a lot of patience and some assistance.

I hope you all have a nice day and stay safe no matter what you do.

Susan - unfortunately a magnifying doesn't help re threading a needle because I still have those 'fine' Essential Tremors and given a needle hole is so tiny, it doesn't allow for 'near enough' to get in the hole,

Verna - I hope that your horses come right very quickly. What a worry.

I'm planning on going into town on the bus, tomorrow, to get just a few groceries. I got the bulk last week, so I can easily get my fresh fruit/veggies and fit them in my shopping trundler. Just hope it doesn't rain, but I have a coat and umbrella and won't have too far to walk to catch the bus or to walk to the supermarket.

Just out of interest's sake, I joined MyFitnessPal to check out it's nutrition tracker. I can tell you I will NOT be using it. I checked a few items that I use and was really surprised. One is a particular brand of baked beans - reduced salt and sugar. They had calories - they had carbs, but they did NOT have:
Sugars
Fibre
Protein
Potassium
which are all on the nutrition label.

I checked out some other foods, and looking at my nutrition labels, altho' the calories were accurate, often a lot of the rest was not, and also at times, missing the basics.

The one thing I DID like is that it estimated my maintenance calories to be reasonably accurate whereas Cronometer I would be losing quite a bit of weight on their recommendation LOL!

I edited the nutrition label of one of them, then logged off, then went back on to see what happened. My alteration is there but there is no indication that a member had altered it, so beware - even if they have all the nutritional info in that label, they may be far from accurate.

An update on my sister:
She went to her Orthopedic Surgeon yesterday re her hip (needs replacing.) The surgeon wasn't happy that her leg hadn't fully healed, (however it is MUCH better than it was) but said that they can't wait any longer - he doesn't WANT to do it with her leg still ulcerated, but he said he now has no choice. It HAS to be done. It might be just a matter of weeks, now.

I did a little growl at her. She went to the Hospital appointment, being taken by Driving Miss Daisy (organized by the Rehab Facility) but only took her walker - not her wheelchair. She said that she nearly fell in front of the surgeon and it was only because the driver reached out and grabbed her that she didn't go 'splat' again. When I growled she said that she had been told she has to walk as much as possible. I pointed out that THAT was in the Rehab facility where she doesn't have far to walk anyway, NOT a hospital with a lot more distance to cover. I told her in future she MUST take her wheelchair!!!! I was actually surprised that the Rehab Facility didn't ensure that she take the wheelchair!

Bossy bloody sister LOL!

Good morning ladies,

Hey ladies, CAZ had put me on to My Fitness Pal and it seems to be most like SP. I joined today and if you wish to continue with the team on a platform I recommend that you go there and get yourself a free account as well. I think this is just what we need to get us out of the slump we have felt since hearing that SP is closing. My profile there is still KEEPITUP4LIFE n case you join and want to add me as a friend. I can start a group there and name it the same as 50+ Maintainers. Let me know what you think. I am excited that we can continue on

today is coolish and it actually feels good. WE have sunshine and the rain came again last night which will help the rest of th lawn and the seed to grow. T is doing well now and we over seeded last week so within a month it should look like nothing went through there at all.

I am going to visit my friend who I did the curtains for today. She is going to be surprised that I have them, all don already. Ordinarily this would have taken me a few weeks doing just one pair a day but I was ambitious yesterday.

With the cooler weather I will be able to get out and ride this week and it should be very pleasant. I still have not gotten a new bike seat but that is on my list of things to do this week.
Other than that time is mine to do what I want.

Kris such a shame you can no longer sew. Does a magnifying glass not help you with fine details? I love sewing and have decide to make my little granddaughter and great granddaughter some clothes for the summer and some for Hailie for school. Hopefully will all my efforts my granddaughter will like the things I make Hailie and have her wear them to school in the fall.

Deena how is Zack doing today. Did he come home from the hospital yet and did they send him with the NG tube if he did come home? I feel so badly for Zack, he is entering in the most important years of his life and having to go through so much. Prayers continue for his well being and recovery.

Verna your horses are so special and I hope Gracie heals well. I'm sure they love you very much especially the peppermints LOL.

Well, I am off to get some breakfast now but not before wishing everyone a great day. Be safe and be healthy.

Caz - the only time I've woken myself up snoring since being diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea, is when I've unintentionally dropped off without my CPAP on LOL! Fortunately that hardly ever happens.

Deena - Zack is very much in my thought. He has been through far more than anybody should have to go through.

Susan - I have a perfectly good sewing machine, however with not being able to see tiny needle holes properly, plus having Essential Tremors, even tho' only mild, it has made it almost impossible to thread a sewing machine needle. In my late teens and early 20's I worked in a Clothing Factory which made quality trousers, and was their Samples Machinist - they only have their best doing that.

Verna - I've never been to a Chiropractor, however I have been many times to an Osteopath, who was brilliant.

I've copied some more of my recipes to Cronometer. I haven't got many more to go, now.

Hello dear Ladies,

I have been working all day. Since it has been a rainy day I decided to get all the curtain panels done for my friend., I measured, cut , pinned, ironed then sewed 10 panels then ironed them when finished to make them look like they were made in a shop. The sewing part tool no time al all but when you have to match up 10 panels to be the exact length, it is a tedious job when you are a perfectionist. Unfortunately if I am doing a task for someone else I am but when its for me there is a little leeway for imperfection.
I worked from 10 this morning, took a 30 minute break in the afternoon and had hubby make dinner. I then took a 30 minute break to eat dinner then I sewed everything up and finished about an hour ago. I then had the cleanup.

I am going to relax for the rest of the evening. I have had absolutely no side effects from the second vaccine and am elated . Hubby had his this morning and so far he is doing fine with no side effects. The morning will tell the story for him.

It has been a productive day but my back is now sore and I am exhausted just from standing in one place most of the day then sitting on my butt to sew. Rain is expected again tomorrow but right now the rain has stopped and it is quiet out there. Loved the water compliments of Mother Nature.

Deena Zack remains in my prayers and I do hope the NG tube isn't going to have to be in situe for too long.

Now off to relax. Have a great evening everyone. emoticon

Little guy is having some kind of all-day swallow test in the hospital. He was tested for COVID AGAIN and still has antibodies from when he had it April 2020. They are thinking he may just have to come home with an N/G tube for a while until his spine heals and all the swelling on the cord abates. Hopefully, that is all they find today. Keep those prayers coming!

Caz, Facebook can be a great way to keep up with friends or it can show the ugly side of people that before Facebook, you'd actually thought were nice people and sane. I have unfriended and even blocked many people, some I'd known all my life because in the past 4-5 yrs, I discovered they were closet racists. I don't put up with that even in family members. I'm very sad for our country right now. I hope your DH's eye appt will go well.

Susan, today is my Livvie day so any tips on how to maintain energy when dealing with a hyper (prob just normal) 4 yr old is appreciated. She is even more attention-seeking with Zack in the hospital. A lot of uncertainty in her life esp since one brother has been gone for months. We have a "library day". Too bad she and Hallie can't have playdates. I think they'd have fun esp at the park. We have a coral snake that shows up at the children's park in our neighborhood. Aggh.

Verna, I hope the horses will heal quickly and get back to their normal life soon.

It seems that my confusion is clearing. This is the weirdest medication. Being a parathyroid hormone, it can affect any system in the body. Mine rotates. LOL. As long as it hardens my bones, I'll have to adjust to whatever.

Have a good one.

Sue I've taken the plunge and joined MFP may keep the two going for a while, settle in, check out the trackers, blah, blah. And decide which one to ditch in say a month's time.......almost coinciding with the closure of SP
Sue I wish I could repeat the things said to me and show you the email sent, really shook me up on FB. I have a good friend on there and would LOVE to chat more, but NOPE, learned a hard lessom

Verna oh yee of little faith emoticon We just I actually woke myself hearing myself snoring LOL. EXCELLENT day, recharged to the max!

Well, DH has a diabetic eye check up this afternoon at an awkward time so we can't get "stuck in" before and by the time he gets back it'll be dinner time emoticon
Not to worry, we're expecting rain late this evening so will get the lawns mowed.
and we must go and get those plants, we're almost there................... I'd love to post some pics before Sparks closes. we'll see! emoticon

Happy Monday, have a good week emoticon

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear Zack is back in hospital. One of these days they will get their proverbial sh*t together and do right by him. Maaaannn.

Caz don't try to tell me you are going to veg all day. I have a hard time believing you can sit still doing nothing for a day. Let us know how that worked for you!!!

Susan, I hear you about being overwhelmed with this keeping in touch after Spark shuts us out. Like you I find the FB Group for the Canadian 50+ a little over the top. I've only commented a couple of times thus far but I'm not writing it off just yet as I may change my mind before mid August arrives. I'll see but for right now I'm not to interested in joining anything else. Just can't be bothered with all the rigamaroll required to join right now. Right now I'm reading a lot on the FB Groups for dialysis patients and caregivers, two separate groups. I've actually learned a lot from them and appreciate that.

We got back from Lethbridge not long ago and I'm ready for bed!! It was very hot there and I find the sitting has started to play havoc with my neck and right shoulder so I think I'll go see my friendly chiropractor whom I haven't seen for several years now. I think a good massage is in order as well.

Gracie was happy to see me as was Patrick. Gracie is a little edgy which is to be expected with the hole in her side from yesterday's fiasco. She was less edgy this morning and was happy to be petted and pampered with peppermints!!! I helped the trainer rebandage her this afternoon and she didn't like that too much but I'm sure having it firmly bandaged must feel better. The wound is a jagged one, not too big and is clean looking so far at least. I'm quite concerned about internal infection because of the puncture, in fact it scares me so I really hope someone will be keeping a close eye on her. Patrick was happy to see me too, I had special treats for him as he is not a peppermint kind of guy. He is doing well it seems and is bearing full weight on his leg so that's good.

Good morning Ladies,

its a beautiful morning here although the weather people have predicted it will rain. I a hoping not as it is just so pleasant out there. Yesterday we had dinner outside on the patio and it felt so good to just be able to enjoy the outdoors all day. The temperatures were just right and if they were like that all summer I would be most happy. Of course we do need rain from time to time to let mother nature get a drink.

Deena, I was so sorry to hear that Zack is back in the hospital today and I am praying harder than ever for him. He sure has had a rough go of it with this surgery.

CAZ, I am sorry that I had to leave that fatsecret site but I am just so overwhelmed but the transition moving about. I joined a team on Facebook from my SP team Canadian 50+ women but even that seems to not be for me. I am getting too many posts on my pages that I really have just for foamily and friend, not groups and teams.

Verna, I was so sad when you told about the horses and the injuries they have especially the one that Gracie has sustained. I do hope she will be okay and not in too much pain from the large cut. With our pets it seems there is always something going on to be concerned with . They are like our children. I know you may not think of your horses as pets but I also know you treat them as if they were and are your pride and joy and if they were smaller they would be pets. I do hope you were able to have a nice walk without the foot acting up. What a nuisance that has to be not t mention the pain you have to endure.

Private group emails is the way will go as well as private single emails so we can stay in touch. I have Verna and Deena on my Facebook page so we can chat in messenger or even video chat. I wish you hadn't had such a bade experience with FB Caz because its a great place for friends and family to keep n touch.

Well little Hailie is here and trying to chat up a storm with me and asking a million questions as always so I better go to give her some undivided attention. I don't want to turn around and find out she is a teenager so the time I spend with her is precious now.

Wishing everyone a blessed Sunday

Deena thank you hun, hope the little fella continues to improve. VERY HOT here so have an excellent excuse to do ab-sol-ute-ly nuttin; LOL
We played around with where the container pots will go between the borders or on the sundeck or elsewhere, and it's looking VERY tropical.............I love it when a plan comes together. Really need to go get some bedding plants/annuals and plant up along with some perennials we've got, but not in this heat.

Kris oh my you two are like peas in a pod, so alike!! Glad to hear she's doing so much better, and yes it is galling that more was not done for her sooner. I don't think any of get over losing their parents and the anniversaries of their passing is so hard. I miss my mum and dad, having lost them within about 6 months of each other when I was 29 and I'll be 64 this year.

Verna glad you were able to get so much done, just a shame your foot continues to hamper you. We got a bit done yesterday, but it was hot and I thought , nah, enjoy the rays.. oooh - ouch that injury on Gracie sounds nasty, sounds like you'll have a hefty vet bill for all three of them. Hope they're all back to good health and healed.
No hurry on the email hun, the site isn't going anywhere, but I confess I am now having second thoughts......will give it a while longer, but may check on Myfitnesspal too, out of interest.

Sue understood hun and I saw the message you left as you parted. Thanks for being so good as to tell me you'd left. I found the FB team too much like hard work too. As I track out of habit and know what to eat and I know I keep active, tracking is just crossing the Ts and dotting the Is ..............I may just stick to emailing as and when. Think of all the time it'll free up emoticon emoticon

Hi Ladies,

I thought I had posted today but realize now I am mistaken. It's been a busy day outside and Hailie is here. We spent the afternoon at the park and then came home and had dinner on th patio which was awesome. First time this year eating outdoors.

My allergies are driving me crazy however so I will have to start taking the daily antihistamine again. I am on my way out the door in hopes i can get into Walmart without stand in line for an hour.

Sorry CAZ but I really don't care for the Fatsecret site. I hate the name of it to begin with as I feel it is deeming. I have decided it's not for me but will keep in touch with you through email. I am very overwhelmed with all the choices I have had to maintain the closeness we have all come to appreciate and email or Facebook will be the routs I chose to keep in touch with my friends. I did join a Facebook group with my other team but even that seems to be overwhelming me. A lot of posts on my Facebook that I really have just for family and friends. I think I like many others may have acted in haste with panic at losing contact with their Spark friends but I know the ones on this team are good friends who will keep in touch with me. We can always sent a group email from our private email addresses to post to everyone as we do on Spark People.

Wishing everyone a great Sunday and a good evening tonight.
.
Have a great evening everyone and I will post in the morning. Feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the new stuff and not sure it's for me.

Deena so glad to hear Zack is doing so well. One of those PHEW moments for everyone but I am distressed to read that you aren't doing so good. Hopefully things will clear up once you are off that medication. One never knows what side effects there are to every med.

Susan hope you are having a nice day with your company and good luck with you vaccination tomorrow. Hopefully no side effects.

Kris there is no mistaking you and your sister are blood!!! It is absolutely astounding that there are so many people not getting the proper care. It only reinforces in my mind that nobody cares about the elderly. I am, however, really happy to read that her leg ulcer is so much better than it was and now that they have a relatively cheap medication to apply hopefully things will improve rapidly. Too bad we can't go back and change things that have happened to either ourselves or our loved ones but that will never be so unfortunately we have to accept things as they are and go forward from here. Prayers going out to you for peace of mind and to your sister for health and recovery from both the brain injury and that leg leg ulcer.

I was very busy outside all yesterday afternoon playing in the garden and flowerbeds again although these days it really isn't playing. I'm so glad my hip quit bothering me although the foot still has its moments!! All of a sudden it will burn so bad I absolutely have to take my shoe off and it always feels like there is swelling in it but to look at it there is nothing, nada, zilch. I think I'm going to say the heck with it an go for a walk and see what happens.

Things with those darn horses keep going from bad to worse. Today someone left a gate open by the entrance to the track and wouldn't you know, Gracie was being led to the track and ripped open her side. The trainer says it's 6 inches long and deep so we will see her tomorrow. We were sitting here watching the races on Simulcast when we learned that she was scratched from the race. What a shock. When DH called the trainer he was on the way to get her stitched up. Patrick is home from Red Deer where he had to have surgery on his leg due to a bone chip in his knee and Dezi continues to be on "bedrest" due to an injury she sustained to her knee in winter. She is getting pretty sassy and I'm sure would very much like to be on the track.

I got a Spark Message from Caz (Thank You Caz) but haven't looked at the site yet and don't think today is the day to do it but I will, maybe later today. I'm thinking that I will now make good my threat to go for a walk. If I get a minute I will check back later.

Just and in/out tonight, with a copy/paste from another team (plus a wee bit more added LOL!) I'm off to bed soon 'cause I am whacked.

I drove down see my sister in the Brain Injury Rehab facility today. She is improving quite a bit, but it appears she will still be there for quite some time before being moved to a long-term care facility.

Her leg ulcer is soooo much better than it was. Whereas prior to the accident it was most of her lower leg that was ulcerated, now it is about the size of the palm of my hand. The new Dr in the Rehab Facility had been quite angry that they weren't really doing anything much for it other than dressing it. He prescribed Zinc, and Ascorbic Acid to be taken po. Why the H*LL couldn't at least ONE Dr of the many who had been treating her, including various specialist, thought of something as simple and cost effective? It is MADDENING, because IF her leg had been healed much earlier, she would have had that hip replacement she needed over 2 years ago, and it is highly unlikely she would have had that fall and suffered a brain injury. emoticon

This is a photo of my sister and I - I'm on the right with the red skivvy on.

We had a really enjoyable visit together, and talked about Dad, too. He died 41 years ago today. Even now, there are times I still expect him to hear his laugh.

It was quite a good drive there and back (about 1hr 20m each way.) I got back at 5:30p.m., went to the garage and pulled out a small full meal from the freezer, and while it was heating in the microwave, I cooked some Silverbeet (Swiss Chard) to go with it. I was eating it within 15 minutes of getting home.

Caz, thank you. Zack has gone thru so much in 14 yrs which shows he's a resilient little guy. If well wishes and prayers have helped in the past, they will get him thru now. He has a widespread and loyal support system. I hope you got some much-needed rest.

Susan, I looked up the side effects of Forteo again...confusion is one of them. Hopefully, like the other SEs I've had, it will magically go away again. I've done nothing but mess up stuff this week and have even had difficulty finding words. Don't even ask about memory. Quite scary. I feel like I want to jump out of my skin. This, too, shall pass!!!

Kris, I hope your sister is getting settled in, improving, and will find new friends on that unit. It'd be nice if more staff could be hired. I wonder if it's that no one applies or they just won't hire before of budget.

I don't have but 3 little blogs to even worry about saving but I know you guys do and I've enjoyed so many of them even if I didn't comment.

Well, our house alarm went off. One of us forgot to disarm it this morning. Wonder who? The neighbors probably heard the loud piercing.

Have a good one and bless you all. emoticon emoticon

HI guys
I am mentally exhausted!
I've spent the day getting shot of any "personal" blogs/pics and mail and joined the group we've been discussing.........which is getting busier by the minute.

I've had it for tonight.............running on fumes LOL
Off to bed, will catch up further tomorrow.

Sending hugs to those who need them and to Deena, I still have Zack in my thoughts and prayers as I do for Kris' sister.

sleep well guys, hope those who are debating whether to join said team, I assure you, you'll be welcome. emoticon

Good morning Ladies,

CAZ I got your email and I have joined that group for the time being. I'm a bit befuddled in it at the moment but I'm sure it will all come together once I do some navigating.
Today I have company coming so once they are gone I will take a longer look around and fill out the bio on myself.

Deena, I am so sorry the fibro is causing you such " fog" . I have had it before but not as much these days. I don't think I have ever had it as bad as what you are experiencing and wonder if there is something else going on. Maybe a side effect from the new medication??

Verna, I'm so happy that you have posted and I do urge you to look into the email that CAZ sent and join that group. The pages do seem very similar to Spark People's layout.

IM short on time because of my company coming but I will pop back later today to check and see if anyone else has posted today. Have a great day and may it be filled with sunshine and smiles.

Good morning. It seems we all have been busier than usual.

The past 2-3 days have been super-busy and confusing. I sent the wrong email address to a person THREE times in less than 2 hours. I finally told her the truth-"I cannot get it together today so I'll let Ron take care of it". She & I were acting as go-betweens for Ron and another guy.

The Fibro FOG is BAD in my brain so I put off writing anything because the shortest note can take several minutes to be coherent. It's worse than usual.

I've been printing out lab and CT results for my Primary Care that he was supposed to have received from the ER back in Jan. Dropping them off at 8:30.

Verna, it's great to have you back. Even better to hear you and yours are fully vaccinated now. It's been a long, stressful year. Being vaccinated will give you a sense of relief when around others even when you continue to mask. It's freedom!

Caz, I checked out the mailbox and will check out that page later today but I have to run and get these papers delivered.

I really do need to get dressed. I hope you all have a good day.

Well Hi It's me, I'm back after a little hiatus!!

The weather hasn't been conducive to being outside (the highest temp so far this week was 12C plus it's been raining off and on or just drizzly and very overcast) nor has it been conducive to being in a happy mood. So I've been slowly taking my page down. I deleted my blogs and didn't even bother saving them the day I did that and now I kind of wish I'd kept a few of them. Oh well. There is so much I will miss on SP but life goes on and I will get back on Life's wagon soon as well.

Caz, I've been thinking of flying by the seat of my pants as well instead of tracking. I too know portion sizes but somehow my hand keeps going from plate to mouth filled with food, especially if it's something I really like which is anything sweet. Since June 1, I have been watching the amount I eat and guess what, it works, the scale has been steadily going downward. It's a flippin miracle. I see the Summer 5% Challenge might be moved up to June 19 instead of the 26 so those of us that are kicked out will be able to finish it. I've been doing them for quite a while now and will miss them for sure and the friends I've made there although I see there might be a FaceBook group started for the 5%ers but if it's just a chat group I doubt I'll hang around in it. As I've said before I'm looking to spend less time on the computer, not more in the hope I will get my arse in gear and get the myriad of things done around here in a more timely fashion instead of always running behind. I'll be really behind after this week because I've been as lazy as a sloth!!

Deena, I'm so happy to see that Zack is doing so much better and pray his recovery continues on a daily basis with few setbacks if any. Cute that Alex sang his song to you a bit ago and fabulous that he will be visiting a psychologist. That should improve his outlook and behaviour a great deal.

Kris, wouldn't you just love to go to that care place your sister is and give them a piece of your mind. Short staffed doesn't mean they have to treat a patient like crap. I wonder would they dare treat a well person that way??

Susan, as usual you are busy doing something inside or outside, always on the go or have something on the go like sewing, crafting, baking or who knows what. You're kind of like a fart in a mitt. I've been told that so I thought I'd try that saying on you!!! So please don't get all stinky about it. Pun intended!! Both of us have had our second doses of vaccine and neither of us had more than a sore arm and to tell the truth Pete's arm gave him trouble and really mine was very slightly sore. Did you eat all that banana bread yet?? Oh wait, you were giving two loaves away so that only leaves you with one to share with husband, friends and family. I freeze my baking cause if I don't it would be gone in a day. Both of us have a sweet tooth here. AND on that note I'm outta here.

Good Morning Ladies,

it is a beautiful sunny morning here but a bit cooler today. It should be bearable to be outdoors with temps back down in the high 70's (around 28C) I actually feel a length bike ride coming on today.
Kris we have to wait 15 minutes after vaccines and the roll out of vaccines is so organized that a person is in and out in 20 minutes. So far my DIL has had no side effects not even a sore arm.
Many I have spoke to have complained of flu like symptoms after the second shot so I am prepared to not be feeling my best by Monday. I have bought a new bottle of extra strength Tylenol and will use as needed.

Deena that's a great goal of not craving sweets but isn't it born into you to either be a sweet craver or a salty craver? I myself crave anything salty and can pass on the sweets any time. When it comes to a bag of potato chips though I can find a bag that is hidden in about 5 minutes. Moderation is the word not deprivation. There is always room to have a treat from time to time but in smaller portions and eat slowly.

I was up late last night copying my BLOGS and I am almost up to this year where I didn't have too many. I should have been deleting them as I went along but forgot to so now I am on the process of doing that at night as well. I don't want to leave anything behind and although we have several weeks before SP closes, I like to get things done asap or yesterday LOL.

I'm off for some breakfast now and wishing everyone a glorious day. emoticon

Susan, what a great surprise! Isn't it wonderful that life is slowly getting back to normal although I think THAT definition has been altered. I can almost smell those breads a'baking.

Speaking of sweet breads...I have a new commitment to stop giving into sweet cravings. I've gone all my life not giving a hoot about them (much) even with a baker dad and now the craving is almost overwhelming. I'm tracking again with online Weight Watchers. I need something to keep me honest.

Kris I hope that they will be able to hire more staff because it really isn't fair to the others that one can take so much time even when it's necessary. It's a safety issue, too.

Caz, we've been doing a lot outside this week, too, but the heat is knocking me down. I decided instead of buying a bunch of plants that will take a lot of ground prep-sandy soul-I'll move a bunch of plants I have in pots to that area, add some gnomes, and make a fairy garden. Livvie agrees altho she pointed out hundreds of stinging ants on the pineapple fronds. Grandma took care of them. I hope.

I found out last night that Alex is seeing a child psychologist at a university med center today. Better late than never.

We have Livvie duty this morning.

I hope Verna is doing OK but I definitely understand how she feels. I feel really bad for those who are homebound and Spark has been a lifeline for them and changed lives.

Have a safe day. Group hug. emoticon

Susan - what a lovely surprise :-)

In NZ we have to stay for 20 minutes AFTER the vaccine is administered.

I've spend a fair bit of the day (well, the part that I was up given I got out of bed at 1145hrs) on changing to the Cronometer Nutrition Tracker. I have gotten used to it now, and it is very easy to use. You can save your stuff into favourites, but the various things I have made that are in the freezer, I will transfer to Cronometer as I use it. In the meantime, I'm going to get a screen-save of the various items, and just save them on my computer. I will enter them into Cronometer as I go and delete them from word when it is done.

Caz - what concerns me re not weighing my food and using a Nutrition Tracker is that altho' I have been maintaining for quite a few years, my body is very sensitive to calories and discovered that even semi-regular 10 cal's over my daily average and I go back to gaining. That doesn't leave much wiggle room.

I talked to my sister tonight. She seemed a lot happier than yesterday, and also had a good talk with the person in charge about what happened and the 'no staff' on the floor' when an incident went down with a very demanding high-needs patient. The problem is that it was understaffed.

Good evening ladies
I had a very special surprise today when I came out of my bedroom and lo and behold in my hallway was my granddaughter who lives in Toronto
She had come down to surprise us and actually got to Welland on Tuesday and is staying at her other grandmother's house which is fine because she always stays with us and they are wonderful wonderful people.

Show with my granddaughter visiting my other granddaughter along with Haley and my daughter showed up and we all had a lovely ladies afternoon..
Tonight Brian and I went grocery shopping then we came back and I made 3 banana breads which are in the oven.
My DIL's vaccine was first and it took only 20 minutes from when we arrived until we left.
I am now sitting on my deck waiting for the breads to finish baking. I will be giving one to my granddaughter to take back to Toronto with her and one for my friend who is visiting on Friday with her daughter .
Its been a great day. But I have to say goodnight as I am being paged. By the way, Verna is okay but feeling a bit p o'd about the closure so she will chat soon but right now in shock like the rest of us. I have been chatting in email with her.

Lab work done. Waiting for my doctor to call about a couple of (mild elevations) from probably that new med I started. May have to cut back on the calcium.

I hope your DIL's vaccine went smoothly and am very happy that soon ALL of us will be secure in knowing we are safer. Just stop all those variations from occurring from mutations.

Forgot I have a ZOOM meeting in a few minutes but I just got a reminder. Ugh. I'll be sitting again. ;-)

Have a good evening.
D.

Hi girls

Sorry I've not been around, we've been cracking on outside (well there's a surprise LOL).

Kris glad you've found a more suitable tracker. I have a feeling I'm going to fly free and see what happens, I mean, it's not like after 14 years of maintaining I don't know portion sizes or how to keep on track now! Hope your appt went well. CHRISTMAS? emoticon NNnoooo, not yet PLEASSSE emoticon
I found the same thing about the FB site, I withdrew after 3 hours!!
WHAT! Your poor sister, that is darned right out of order!! There must be some complaints system there surely. They should not be allowed to get away with such disregard and lack of respect for their patients. emoticon

Sue a girl after my own heart, I tend to do my indoor crud to release me on better weather days to be outdoors. As our covid rates are going down ours are going up again and there is a call for a mass SURGE vaccination push in the areas where the Delta (Indian) variant is rising alarmingly. Horse and bolted comes to mind!! Thanks for the heads up on emails, but yeah, I thought as much.

Deena how cute of Alex and I am delighted to hear the news on Zack, let's hope here on in he recovers swiftly.

Well, like I say, another busy day, am ab-sol-ute-ly cream crackered. Two borders have now been shaped and edged , one to go. The next couple of days we'll play with the layout of the container plants and go get some more bedding plants.

Anyone seen Verna?

Good morning Ladies,

Kris, I feel the same as Deena. This is an outrage how they have treated your sister with such disrespect . I am shocked to say the least and could say a whole lot more but my language would be quite colorful if I did.

Deena it is wonderful to hear that Zack s finally beginning to feel better and able to eat without getting sick. I pray he continues to move forward with his recovery. I sent you and image of my Facebook heading in a private email so you will be able to find me easier. I'm quite certain there are thousands of Susan Blanchards in the work but there is only one me LOL.

Caz, I know you are disappointed with the closing of Spark People but we will make the best of it through our continued friendship through emails which can always be a group email right from your private server. Yoi just send one email to everyone you want to share with. Of course I'm sure you know that anyways.

I have to get moving as the day is getting away from me. Its almost 11:00 am and I have yet to have breakfast. I will be getting ill shortly if I don't eat. I have to take my DIKL for her first vaccine today and then mine on Sunday and I am elated to know I will be fully vaccinated. Of course we always have to be cautious and keep up with social distancing, hand washing, masks at time etc. but it will be mind settling knowing I have some immunity from that horrible virus.

Well I'm off and I wish everyone a great day. Verna and I have joined a Facebook group with another team that we are on that has several active members. I'm not how sure how logical it would be for us to open a FB group with just 4 of us who would participate. Caz has indicated she doesn't want to go on Facebook so it only leaves 4 of us. I think email and Facebook messenger or friendship would be the easiest route for this small team.

I know on Facebook there are several Spark Teams being formed that we could join but for now I am just going to stick with the one and see how that works out.

Have a wonderful day everyone and keep safe.

Hello all,
Like you, my spark pages are being wonky and things either can't be found or disappear.

I have written down all of your emails and will try to find you on the FB pages. Susan, I looked for you but found so many Susan Blanchards. Now that I know to look for the bikes, I'll find you! I don't want to lose you guys.

Early lab work and another appt this morning "in town" so I took photos of your latest posts in case I come back later and all of this has disappeared.

Facetimed with Alex yesterday and he sang us a very long song he'd made up about how he didn't know why God killed dinosaurs. He looks happy. We're going to drive up to see him soon about an hour or more away.

Zack's slowly getting better. Hallelujah!

Caz, I hope that you got some rest.

Kris, I hope your doc appt went well. I am so PO'd about your sister. It seems like the emotional and social aspects of patient care are not considered now. Even in the "dark ages" when I was in nursing school, we were being taught to look at the person as a whole and to always remember they were MORE than an illness. I DO hope she finds new friends soon to somewhat lessen the "sting". I'm speechless.

I WILL be back later!! emoticon

Susan - I saw your message come in last night but couldn't figure out how to access it until tonight LOL! I've been on/off SP since about 1600hrs and it is now 2145hrs. I'm obviously a quick learner LOL! I had hunted and hunted through all the Susan Blancard's I could come across but for some reason couldn't find you. It was only that I just now clicked on something that your message came up in a different part LOL!

For the first time in a few months there is someone who arrived in the country and was in quarantine with Covid has been transferred to Hospital with Pneumonia. NZ has been VERY lucky to so far escaping so much of the tragic mayhem.

I went to my Dr appointment today, and also went to The Warehouse (sort of like Seers) to see if they had any toys etc. on good specials for Xmas for the disadvantaged. Anyway I select 3 items with the
reduced to clear" sticker. One of them had an original "reduced to clear" of $17.97 but I got it for $4.97. When I got home I looked at TradeMe to see if they had any there and this is what I found

To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement. I was totally S.T.U.N.N.E.D.!!!!

I have decided to give it to TJ *my great-grandson will be 4yrs old) for Xmas instead LOL!

I joined the SP Alumni FB group, however I think I will also be removing myself from the group. Everybody and their dog is there, so there won't be any friendships being formed.

I also think that having a FB group made for those on OUR team that want to join is the way to go. I have made one for a little SP team I am on, and you can have the settings as Private, however if you do it at the beginning you can't change it to public, as I found out LOL!

I talked to my sister this a/noon. She was so upset. This a.m. she went to her Physio appt. only to be taken back tor room. They were packing up all her stuff and shifting her to another building. I gather each building has 4-6 patients. They hadn't told her and she wasn't given a chance to say goodbye to a couple friends she had made there. I think that is downright disgusting and not treating a person holistically which they SHOULD be doing to aid her recovery and for her mental health. Also, It was 1645hrs when I was talking to her, and she had not been given a drink since lunch time, and said that there were no staff members around. She was just left in her room. Man, if I had been there I would have been spitting tacks at them and then some!!!

Hello Ladies,

my personal email is susan.blanchard1952@gmail.com. Kris I went to your FB page and have sent a message to you in messenger since I can not add you as a friend with your privacy settings. Deena I went to your FB page the other day and left a message in your messenger as well but I can't add you as a friend because of your private settings.

Anyone can send me a friend request on Facebook right now and I can be found at Susan Blanchard. There is a photo of me on the profile page with a couple of bicycles in the background image.

We have wet weather today although it is hot and very humid. I am doing housework today so when the weekend comes I won't have to do anything but go outside and play.

I am so happy to see our number of COVID cases going down every day. Last month we were at 3424 cases on this dat and today we are at 469 cases. This is within our province of Ontario with a population of 14.5 million persons.

I am sending best wishes to all for a terrific Tuesday.

I am all for a private FB group being formed.
My page is set to Private however you can find me on
Kristine Dowson - it has a pic of my late hubby and I

I've spent most of the day entering foods into my new Nutrition Tracker. I joined Cronometer - it's free, and there are a lot more foods in their data base than SP - foods that actually include NZ manufactured and fruits such as Feijoa, which SP didn't have. I have still had to enter stuff manually but not so much, but because I have a HUGE variety of ingredients, it will take me a few days to do it all.

I have a Dr appointment tomorrow at a satellite town, Just my 3-monthly re scripts, then I will go into the main town to get a few groceries. I don't need to buy much this month - mainly fruit/veggies.

Good morning ladies,

I am getting my second vaccine on Sunday afternoon and Brian is getting his the next day in the morning.. I am elated to have these appointments finally as I was so worried that we would get left behind since we were not given a second appointment when we went stand by.

WE are still on the stand by list but I don't think we will get called before Sunday because I'm not sure if that clinic is running until until the 16th of June. I am happy with getting mine on Sunday.

When I logged into SP this morning there were all sorts of errors on the pages and they were acting weird. I played the trivia game and answered my 3 questions correctly but it kept giving me more and more questions and not going back to the Trivia home page. Finally when I cam on this time I was able to play it properly. But then who cares about Spark points any more. I think most people are feeling a huge sense of loss and Imagine Chris Downie is probably feeling badly as well because he knows how disappointed everyone is.

I'm still very happy for him making this site 2 decades ago as I have learned so much about emotional, eating, different health issues, fitness and healthy nutrition. I'm not going to ever let things go backwards to where I was back n 2014 when I was weighing almost 170lbs with my 5 foot 2 inch frame. I learned to be a runner and made my first race a half marathon. I built strength and motivated myself to always do my best. I discovered as long as I stay mobile, my fibromyalgia usually stays tolerable to unnoticed. I am most grateful for the many friends I have made here, some who will be life long.

I think Verna has a great idea with making a Facebook group page for fellow Sparklers. How about you guys? Do you use FB? We would have to option of still have group chat but no obligation to post daily , just when we have something to chat about. If everyone is okay with this, I will look into Facebook groups to see how to go about setting it up and I will let you know.

Deena I have messaged you at home and glad to hear that Zack is holding his own.

I have sent Judy a message about Spark People closing so she can disable her page if she hasn't already.

Have a great day everyone and stay safe emoticon

I am gobsmacked-and I never use that word but I'd get kicked off of Spark if I used the words I really want to about these changes!. I'm sure it does have to do with money but it really looks like members in other countries would be invited for a tiny fee if necessary. I'm very sad about this and yes, I do want to touch base with you at times because we have a friendship. I know that if we met in person, we'd feel as if we were old friends seeing each other again. THIS IS SO SAD.

My email is dcscintilla@yahoo.com. (Note: there is a "c" on either side of the "S". Some leave it out and emails are returned)

Update on Zack: he made it thru the wknd without a hospital return, walked around the cul-de-sac, and just has a low-grade fever. He doesn't have an indwelling cath but is still being "straight-cathed every 4 hr for residual. He has a lot of residual uring with a neurogenic bladder since surgery. Praying that when the swelling goes down, that will resolve. Your prayers have helped both Zack and Grandma Deena and I am so grateful.

I for one am at the year 2018 in copying my BLOGS. Luckily I copied all my BLOGS last year from 2014 up to the end of December 2017. IT took me a couple of weeks and I am determined to have all of them before this week is over.
They are pretty well my my diary with a lot of inspiration pages but a lot of personal tragedy pages. I need them for me

I'm shocked to see SparkPeople is closing it's doors to everyone but Americans---Guess no other minds matter!!! I wonder what precipitated this movement and why, I mean what's the difference as to how far the reaches are for communicating? Does it cost more money? Truthfully I'm a little ticked but am glad to have met everyone on these pages and I will certainly miss each and every one. Even though we might slip a day or maybe even a week here and there to post we always knew our friends were still here waiting to hear from us. I'm sure there is a very logical reason for this happening. Guess we'll have to move on and as much as we can exchange e mail addresses to keep in touch it won't be the same as there is much more to SparkPeople than the chat threads.

My e mail address is vjknight@efirehose.net for any of you who want to jot that down and yes Susan this could very well be a new beginning for many of us.

My prayers are solid and frequent for Zack and his family. Such a stressful time for them.

Caz, I'm so sorry you slipped on the suds and hurt yourself. I hope the aches and pains go away quickly and if you have Epsom Salts go take a nice hot bath and see if that helps the aches. Take care all and see you tomorrow.

Susan - to say I am GUTTED is an understatement. I woke to the news this morning. I wonder if it is something to do with legality - I know it has had a bearing on some International users using some parts with (I THINK) their apps.

I have been on SP since June 2007, and apart from when I was having a holiday in Canada in 2016, I have used it every day.

Caz - hubby and I got married in 1975, so yes, there were lots of birthdays.

I had to read this several times to understand what it was saying. Finally the last time I read it, I realized that it ONLY include People from the United States that can join the new Spark America platform. I don't get it that we would be told (around the world of members) that we aren't invited but only persons living in the United States.
I paid for an ad free membership on Spark People and now we are told there won't be any Spark People, we will no longer have our spark teams or friends to share with and we won't have [park People to go into on a daily basis to gain support, be motivated and inspired by others, or lean new things about healthy living .BOOM!

Well, I guess it was only time that this would come to an end seeing that Chris Downey has had the Spark People Community now all there years and never charged a dime to be a member. The old adage comes to mind "all good things must come to an end" .
It wouldn't be so bad if anyone could go to the new platform at Spark America but Canadian neighbors, and all the other countries who have been members of this fine site are not invited so that is the kick n the butt.

I appreciate everything that Chris Downey has done that affected me and my friends who have changed their lives for the good through this site. I can't say anything bad because for me it has always been a great experience here where I have gained so many valued friends and ones that will remain as friends for a lifetime.

My private email address is susan.blanchard1952@gmail.com for those who want to stay in touch after Spark People closes on August 17th.

I will be spending the next several days going to my BLOGS and downloading them. They are my journals that I started downloading last year. I have a lot n them about life events that I dont want to lose so suggest to any of you who want to keep their BOLGS, you may want to do the same as myself..
Lets all try and get into post tomorrow so we can see exactly where everyone stands and feels about this. It isn't the end, it may very well just be a new beginning for all of us.

Sue you are one talented and BUSY lady. Have to say though that I'm no lover of sunflowers, yes they are nice enough, but I have an unpleasant memory attached to the darned things LOL.......so it's the connection.

Verna Vicki had a tummy bug and I've been keeping an eye on her AND John, as she wasn't up to cooking. But this morning started badly, not only did I slip on shower suds and go flying in the shower (already ache all over) but I've caught Vicki's bug,,,,,,,,I have, how can I put this delicately, not strayed too far from the loo today. I got Pete to lug the chippings we bought yesterday into the garden and did precious little all day. I love both petunias and snapdragons. With the rain we had all through last night I'm hoping not to lug our hose out for another day, when I do I hear Pete's brain calculating the water bill emoticon and I see the stress veins in his neck become more prominent emoticon WTG on having your 2nd jab.......you are now officially among the "cleansed" emoticon emoticon

Kris I don't know how many years you were married, but you must have had some wonderful memories of birthdays celebrated, today he is closer to you as you recall those memories, sending you a gentle bear hug.
I love your commitment to the nursing professionalism. Let's face it some of the nurses these days don't seem to have that caring empathy that we all remember of nurses years ago. Many are on a "career rung" and just tick boxes. I recall when Pete's step mum was ill in hospital and seeing a nurse stand in the doorway ticking off on sheets on a clipboard,
I asked what he was doing. It seems every 15 mins they should check each patient had water to hand/ didn't need the loo/ had the drugs needed/ hadn't fallen out of bed etc. On every occasion not once did I see him check the water levels of the jugs nor whether it close enough to hand, nor did he ask ANY patient if they needed the loo. Needless to say I reported it.

Deena hun I so hope your fears are unfounded, he's a little fighter so keep positive!!! emoticon

Tomorrow is going to be sweltering hot, or so we're promised, so I have a feeling I'll not be doing much again LOL.............maybe lunch in the garden, occasionally moving from the sun lounger............................... emoticon

Good Morning ladies,

our soil is ready for pickup so SIL is going at 3:00 pm. That gives me lots of time to be finished the box. Hailie is coming just after or close to noon time so I am rushed for time to get everything done around the house.

Deena, while I am happy that Zack is at home to convalesce, I would be feeling very guarded about his condition. The low hemoglobin is not a good sign and on top of the urinary infection it doesn't help in his recovery from the actual surgery. He is a fighter however so hopefully with lots of love, he will perk up quickly and start healing.

Verna, looks like you are in for a busy weekend as well so remember the evenings are a great time to wind down and rest. I know after Hailie goes to bed, (and she is a great kid) I take a few moment to breath deeply and then go up stairs to my She Shack i.e. my computer room and chill out watching an old movie or rerun show or I just read.

Kris, sending gentle hugs for you on this day that must hold many good memories of time you spent with your husband. I'm sorry for your loss.

Well I must run as the sun is coming on strong now and it is going to reach 30C today with an even higher humidex. Take care everyone and enjoy your day. emoticon

I have an all-day zoom conference starting this morning but wanted to give you a quick update about our little guy.

After only one day in the hosp after being readmitted, he was discharged yesterday evening. The UTI bacteria is pseudomonas which he probably acquired because of all the caths. He definitely was discharged the first time with it. He came home with a HGB of 9.1. We visited last night and he looked awful-shaky, pale, and very quiet. I don't think he could get much skinnier. His hands look like he has RA- they are that thin that the knuckles look huge. He loves brownies-I mean LOVES them, but only "picked" at one last night. I hope I'm wrong but I believe he'll be readmitted before the weekend is over. I do not have a good feeling about his recovery. It's very depressing and frightening.

All we can do is pray.

Susan - I tend to get very angry when hospitals/Dr's/Nurses do those sorts of things ... and I am NOT one to hold my tongue. They get an earful. There is absolutely no excuse to miss those sorts of things and particularly given the surgery that Zack had, they should be been far more observant and read what was in front of their faces.

Today is my late hubby's birthday.

Verna - bees LOVE lavender and blue coloured flowers.

Susan, is there anything you can't do? Now you've become a draftswoman, carpenter and who knows what all else!! Plus your a crafter which skills you will no doubt put into good use this weekend with Hailie!! Sounds like a full weekend to me. Hate to burst your bubble but sunflowers likely won't do well in 111/2 inches of soil. They grow really tall and need more foundation than roots that only go down that far. I've had them grow well over 5 feet so started planting the shorter variety which have several flower heads on them instead of one large and a couple smaller ones. If I ever find my pictures I'll post one.

Caz, I can't quite remember why Vickie is sick but am glad to hear she is feeling much much better. More chippings you say . . . your yard will be voted best in the neighbourhood if you don't watch it!!

Pete and I went to Calgary yesterday and I bought myself some more work in the names of petunias and snapdragons. Looking forward to see the snaps as I've never grown them here so hoping they like this soil which is light and sandy. The bees will love them I'm sure. Right now they are feasting on the lilacs and flowering thyme. There doesn't seem to be as many as years before though. Hope the winter didn't kill off a bunch of them. It's been hot the last 3 days so I've been dragging those water hoses around like I know what I'm doing. If those garden seeds haven't germinated by now they never will so I will be sharpening the hoe soon and teaching those weeds a lesson or two.

Deena it makes me so angry to think that Zack was discharged from hospital with a UTI. One would thing that they would be taking extra precautions with him because of the extensive surgery he has had and the other health issues he worked through since his surgery. I hope he is back home soon and the UTI has been properly looked after.

I'm a little on the tired side and I see the clock is ticking close to 10 pm so I think it's time to take that walk down the hall to my bed. Hi to all I haven't mentioned, know I think of you all often and hope you are doing well.

Oh yeah Pete and I got our second Covid shots today. Pete was headed into town and just got about 20 feet when he got a call from the pharmacy saying they had 2 shots and were we interested in coming into town and getting our seconds. Why yes Sir we sure are!!! No side effects yet. Arm isn't even sore yet.

Hello Ladies,

it's late and I played hooky from Spark People today. I was busy drawing up my plans for a garden box and then hubby and I went out to get the supplies. I cut , measured and sewed all 6 panels of my friend's curtains yesterday so now she has more curtains for me to shorten for her and her daughter (another nurse I worked with) wants me to hem a couple pair of pants for her. I really enjoy doing the work and it gives me something to do in the evening.

The weekend will be busy as I am taking Hailie for the entire two days and spending the time with her at the park and the splash pad. She will have a blast there
So if you don't see me post it is because too am having a blast and not thinking of anything but relaxing for a change.
Hubby and I will finish the garden box tomorrow and I have the soil ordered for pickup tomorrow. My son in law bless his hide is picking it up for me with his truck. I will look for flowers to put in the garden box and one thing I will plant although it may be a bit late, is sunflowers. I will figure it out what is going into the rest of the box which is 9 feet long by 24 feet wide and 11.5 inches deep. I believe the dogs will not try to get nto that garden at all. I have caught them in my new garden a couple of times and blasted them for it. Hopefully the learn this summer that the gardens are off limits.

Enjoy your weekend ladies and stay safe. OH by the way, hubby and I are no on another standby list to get our second vaccine. Hopefully some day next week we will get a call.

Evening girls
It's late and I am going to be strung out to get stuff done tomorrow so quickie responses. Hope you guys aren't insulted

Kris happy you've not had any nasty side effects hun..........1 down 1 to go!

Deena, oh no..........my heart sank when I read about Zack, thought he was home and going great guns, aww bless him. This is just too cruel, hope there is at least some improvement over night, but want to hear he's back home to rest and get well. Keeping in my prayers hun.
There has got to be some sort of complaint procedure you can lodge your feeling with??? Disgraceful treatment.

Sue thanks for your understanding. Hope your discomfort eases I confess I could use some padding too.

Warm here this morning, rain this afternoon, so not much work done, but we go and get YET ANOTHER 12 bags of chippings!!
Bought some striking plants today for the border, hope to get them in over the weekend. Managed at least to get the lawns mowed and other boring crud done today so HOPEFULLY free to charge on over the weekend.
Vicki is much better!! Will still help her with grocery delivery tomorrow but, yeah I think she's on the mend.

night night

Good morning ladies,

OH Deena, this news about poor Zack is so disheartening. What the heck is wrong with hospitals that discharge patients when they have undergone such intense surgery and send them home with a UTI. Poor Zack has bee through so much and this is just unacceptable. I do hope that the medical staff responsible for overlooking this and releasing him, are duly noted on their records and disciplinary action is initiated. I get so appalled at shoddy medical practice and if I were Zack's parent I would be coming down hard on those responsible for him being released when there were imminent problems. Shame on them!

Deena I continue to pray for Zack and I hope he is fixed up quickly so he can enjoy coming home without fearing a return to the hospital.

Kris, I don't remember the house ever smelling musty but I remember very well the cold mornings where we could see our breath when we got up and stood in front of the small space heater to get dressed. My mother did a lot of knitting when we lived in New Zealand as all women did back then. Ladies would take their knitting to the flicks with them and have jumpers half finished by the time the movies were over with.

CAZ of course you could get back to me and this is just an idea for anyone who would like to join that chat for fun. You don't have to know how to run Zoom because it is just a link to go to. Here is some information about it..................

ZOOM is a program where you can see each other and talk at the same time. You don't need to download it. If you have a zoom meeting you are sent a link. When you click that link Zoom will open up for you and you can clearly see that you have the option to use test and use your computers microphone. your microphone. If your computer has a web cam, you can zoom. IT is simple as that. If anyone wants to join in a chat they just click the link that is sent to you and it has a pass code that is sent with the link and once you click the link and put the passcode in, it opens right up to a screen where you can see yourself and then you will see others when they arrive into that chat room. Hopefully I have explained it clearly as I'm not good at giving written directions.

If you want to see how zoom works ahead of time, you can download the program for free and take a look at how it works but you DON'T have to download it t to enter a chat room that you have been invited to. have kept mine as I had to download it when dealing with the lawyer when settling my moms estate. Because of COVID my sister had to sign papers on line in front of the lawyer then take them to a drop box at her office. was terrified at the the of using a program that I knew nothing about but when I saw how easy it was, I decided to keep it for future use. It has been wonderful to chat openly with Deena because it's like being in the same room with her.

Today it is raining here and just as well as my pelvic floor is so sore from riding. I absolutely have to get a gel seat. Even with the padded bike shorts, they are not padded enough where I have no collagen or fat due to aging. That area of my anatomy has become very tender and I'm afraid of getting pressure sores if I don't get a softer and more padded seat. Today with the rain my poor pelvis region will get a break. I don't want to give up cycling because I really love it.

Yesterday I only rode 10 miles because I had my friend coming by and because I was getting uncomfortable. MY friend and I had an great visit and she brought the curtains I am going to shorten for her. She also brought me some Spumanti Bambino which is the sparkling wine I like. That has been put away for another day as I usually wait until Friday to have a a glass or two
Well it's time for breakfast so I will bid everyone a great day and I hope there is lots of smiles and laughter in it. emoticon

A quick note as we actually slept later like normal people would do who are retired. It happens once every 3 months. ;-). LOL

Zack update: He went home Tues afternoon. When we visited, I had to put on my sunglasses when I saw his incision because I got tearful and didn't want him to see. It extends from the base of his little neck to just above his "butt crack". Anyway, his "freedom" lasted 24 hr because he was readmitted last night with a raging UTI and his oxygen "sats" are 70 on room air. He has had to be "cathed" every 4 hrs because of residual urine so no wonder he has a UTI. He was discharged with a low fever and when they checked old labs last night in the ER, he had signs of a UTI in the hospital. I am so angry I could spit! A first-year nursing or med student could have seen something was festering. Anyway, I'll try to calm down.

Kris, we use a portable dehumidifier when our humidity climbs in the house and our windows sweat. FL is soooo humid and to keep the mustiness down or reduce the chance of mold, we use one. It's not daily. You'd be surprised at how much water we dump out of the reservoir that is pulled out of the air. Newer homes here are air-tight which is good but it does mean they can't "breathe" as well. I'm glad you're side-effect free from your vaccine. Yea!

Verna, I've said this before but I envy you with all your critters on the farm. Some of my happiest memories from childhood are from when I stayed on my grandpa's farm . They were always working from dusk to sunset and would fall asleep doing the 6:00 news.

We drove to a huge nursery yesterday to look at plants/ground covers for a stubborn spot. Every single plant we liked would be toxic to our Lab. We can't trust her curiosity. She ate most of my cherry tomatoes even the half-ripe ones.

It'd be nice if you guys could join a zoom. Sue and I enjoy chatting about everything under the sun. With the time differences, it would be a little challenging but doable.

Have a good day and stay safe. emoticon

Susan - NZ houses were mostly notoriously cold and often damp in the winter. 3-4 yrs ago the Government gave those of us who lived in houses built prior to 1990, and in a very low income bracket, a subsidy if our insulation etc. wasn't up to scratch, which mine wasn't. They insulated under the house as well. When we first built it it was warm and dry and it's only been about the last 10-12 years that we started getting crying windows in the winter. I got sick of wiping up the water pooling on the windowsills and in some cases starting to run down the wall - which fortunately is wood. My daughter complained of the house smelling musty. I couldn't smell it but the sales rep who came here (invited) told me that was quite common, and the mustiness was because all the furniture and the carpet sucks up the moisture in the air. He said ti would take a couple years for it to properly come right, and he wasn't far wrong. After about a year the mustiness had gone. I haven't got an air con. - the sales rep said it was unlikely I would need one, and I am pleased because when I am in a building which has one on all the time it often triggers asthma.

Caz - that joke is funny -

Sue - where it comes to Zoom - I have absolutely no idea about that sort of thing.

It's 10 1/2hrs post Covid jab now, and so far no side-effects. Hopefully that is how it continues, but I guess it can't be taken out if I change my mind LOL!

Kris and Sue- correct...........Now for a bonus of 10 have you also heard of an Oyster......from an ice cream wagon that is,,,,,,,not the revolting things you swallow raw *barf*

Kris that's the trouble with most heating systems, makes the air drier, and wood, not to mention our own skins. Hope you didn't have any side-effects. Is your 2nd jab already booked?

Okay bad joke; Did you know they now have the ideal vaccine to fight the India variant?.
It's called the pun-jab..................... sorry, Pete's pal came out with that play on words the other night.

Sue the rest was short lived LOL ..........Had an excellent day today. Even though we've been helping our friends out, one of whom is not well, we managed to clear 2/3 of the new border of it's present plants in readiness to create 3 semicircular borders edged with blue/grey slate chippings to match other edgings in the garden.

Been sweating buckets in the heat!

Thankfully the materials we needed arrived today, albeit late, so we can crack on over the next couple of days.

We've decided to look out for some vibrant and unusual coastal plants to really pop against the myriad of grasses, ferns and palms we have to put in ( got some homework to do!), and to ditch the plants we've hitherto saved (many have been in the garden for some years and are getting to the end of their lives), better to start with fresh stock. So............ over the next week we'll be off to the garden centres and looking on line.

Sue could be difficult to set up that chat, have no idea how to begin operating on Zoom and with Vicki unwell I'm not sure when I'll definitely be free,,,,,,,,,can I get back to you??

Good morning ladies,

I love to see everyone chatting away and having fun at it. Kris, just a warming that the only side affect you should have is that your arm will more than likely start getting sore about and hour or two after the shot and stay sore for ab0ut 24 hours. This is the side effect that all to most reveal and with hubby , I and our adult kids this was the only thing that happened. Not anything that we couldn't handle for sure especially with all the good the Pfizer is doing for mankind.

Kris do they have central heating in New Zealand? When I lived there we did not have any and would use the fireplace at night and get dressed in front of a little electric heater in the morning during the winter season. We also all slept with our "hotties" which is something I still do in the winter here when it's really cold and I cant warm up.

CAZ, I have never heard of a 99 but I went to trusty Google and I see Kris is right. It was good to see that you took a break for the day and just laid back and enjoyed life. WE have to do that sometimes. I enjoy do that from time to time with a glass of sparkling white wine in my hand.

Verna, once again as you talk about the horses, I am pea green with envy. The life on a farm has to be one of the best and busiest but I know I would be in my element with that type of life. I am not like city girls because I like to be outdoors and in the middle of mother nature.

Deena it was great chatting with you on zoom yesterday and once again I will bring the subject up to the team to see if others would be interested in joining a virtual chat session. You could come infor the hour or just drop in for a few minutes but we have the opportunity to see eavh other and chat as if we are all together. I know Verna has said she is interested so I am looking at CAZ and Kris to see if either of you would like to joining a chat session. I could schedule it around the time where everyone is awake in their time zones.

I know Kris is 16 hours ahead and CAZ is 5 hours ahead of Deena and myself while Verna is 2 hours behind our time but a chat session is still doable and I could offer different days so the team could pick the best day. Please let me know and I will do the footwork.

It is a pleasant morning with sun and clouds and ni wind so I am going out on the bike in about an hour after I eat and get dressed. My friend is stopping by after noon with some more curtains she wants me to hem and now that I figured out what was wrong with my sewing machine I have fixed it. Lots to do in the evening hours for the next couple of days as there are 6 panels I volunteered to do this as it helps to keep me busy at night when I hate to just watch TV

I'm off now for some breakfast and I wish each of you a very pleasant day. Be healthy, be safe. emoticon

Susan - Hailie is a real little cutie :-)

Caz - is a 99 an ice-cream with a Flake in it?

It's been a bit nippy here again today - 18C/64F but didn't turn the heater on. Having the HRV system which was installed a couple years ago has dried the inside of the house and now it doesn't feel as cold as that same temp did prior to the HRV be installed.

Tomorrow I get my first Covid shot. We are getting the Pfizer/BioNTech one.

Deena that is WONDERFUL NEWS!!! emoticon I hope your ID gets sorted.

Kris your first official day of winter, our first day of meteorological summer. Sleep well.

Sue kids love messing in water. Our lower esplanade water splash pool was modernized a couple of summers ago and it's a real hit!

Verna I just knew you'd have summat to say about our " day off" cheeky madam LOL. Yeah laid on the sun lounger ON our sun deck, listening to the dickie-birds and not much else. Had lunch under the canopy in the shade even ran after the ice cream van and had a 99 each (I'll explain if no one knows what a 99 is). Back to sunbathing, sauntered in and cooked dinner.
BUT...................tomorrow or Thursday the next batch of materials will arrive and we can push through to get the borders shaped and planted up. emoticon
AND.............AND,,,,,,,,,,,,,Pete's even promised me that we can have patio or bi-folding doors in my gym room leading straight into the garden, something we had thought would be nice when we first moved here.

AND sweet Verna, when do YOU pause for breath LOL emoticon emoticon Hope DH's more likable nature returned, bless, he must find it all so frustating.

Okay beddie-byes time, it's So exhausting.......... laying around all day *yawns*, I bet I'm restless as soon as my head hits the hay..................I'll be up at 1am, and 2am for a pee, and 3........................... emoticon

Deena great news on Zack. He will likely want to celebrate with lots of Grandma's brownies. Just hope he can eat them by the time he is released. Oh such a happy day that will be. Praying he continues to improve. He sounds like he has a very sunny disposition, such a treat to celebrate with him.

Kris, I hope your friend's hubby continues to improve as well. Such a miracle that he is doing as well as he is. Praying for him as well.

Susan your Little GGD is sure growing and it looks like she likes to have her picture taken. The dear little soul. How sweet it is that you can enjoy so many days with her and now that summer is here I'm sure many days will be spent in the park, in or out of the water. I suspect she will want to wind down and rest every afternoon after running, playing and making new friends. So it's lawn mowing days at your house as well, My guy mowed on Friday. the jostling on the riding mower does bother his back and sometimes pulls on the tube in his belly but he perseveres and gets the job done in short order, or at least it seems short to me. I no sooner get things out of the way and put back that he's done so it seems I'm busier than he is LOL

Caz, are you trying to tell us you sit long enough to eat?? and to enjoy the fruits of the labour you and Pete expended in the yard. Holy Cow LOL

I did get the watering done and most of the bedding plants put into their summer homes even if it did take until 10 pm to get it done, with breaks in between of course!! I still need to get a few more plants out and water my peas as the sprinkler didn't get that area yesterday. The horses followed me as best they could in their pens wherever I went. If I walked north, they went there too and those foals. Oh my how spoiled are they, I, of course pull grass for them which grows nice and tall along the fence lines, and feed them. They catch on so fast and some right over as soon as I'm within their sight. In the beginning of spring they waited for me to come over but not anymore, they are waiting for me to get to them plus they are talking to me now as well. It is so nice to be so loved!!! Even when I get too busy and don't have time to talk or feed they never pout, they just wait and follow. I came in from the last of my watering last night at 10 pm, had a shower and went right to bed and had a great sleep. Today was garbage to waste management facility, the pharmacy to pick up some ointment for Dh's exit site and to the hospital to have his bandages changed. He is a surly bear today so I'm giving him a wide berth. LOL Well, better run if I want to finish up the yard work and watering. It's supposed to be a warm day and tomorrow as high as 31 so watering is crucial. Sure hope God intervenes and provides some much needed rain.

Good Afternoon Ladies,

it is a beautiful day in the neighborhood today with abundant sunshine and warm temps.
I am babysitting Hailie today and I took her to the park this morning to play. The splash pad was open and on so guess who wanted to go and get wet. Luckily I had my phone and called home for Brian to bring a towel to the park because Hailie was having a blast.

I was afraid she wouldn't want to leave but she started getting cold and we came back for lunch. I was starving as I had only had a light breakfast.

Hailie is very social and made friends with a little girl as soon as she got to the park. AS parents we stat distanced from each other but we don't make the little ones stay apart from playing. The children had a blast at the splash pad.

Hopefully I will be able to gt=et out for bike ride after Hailie goes home. Brian has been outside cutting the lawns so I won't leave Hailie with him when he stops to rest.
She is wanting to return to the park so that may be just what we don shortly. IT is just a 5 minute walk from my house.

Have a great day everyone. emoticon

Deena - I guess there will be a huge happy dance going on LOL! It sounds like Zack is very resilient given the circumstances. I bet you are relieved you have managed to get an appointment. They don't make it easy, do they?

Yes, today is officially the first day of winter here. My friend's husband has come a long way, however he isn't out of the woods yet. I just hope that if/when he goes backward, it is no more than a proverbial hiccup.

I'm off to bed soon. It's nearly midnight - not that THAT means anything much given the light doesn't often get turned off until about 0230hrs.

Zack may be able to come home today!! Wow, when he turns around, he turns around. Photos on Facebook are of him are without all the tubes and a big smile is on his face. I'm doing a happy dance. emoticon We'll have cookout for them next week with Grandma Deena's brownies if he can have them.

Sue, it looks like you managed to get in a good, long ride AND a walk! Good for you. I haven't figured out how to keep moving while I'm trying to sleep. There should be a special bed for people with fibromyalgia that gently puts us thru range of motion all night so we can sleep without pain.

Verna, I hope you got the garden stuff done and your hip wasn't aggravated.

Kris, isn't today the first day of your winter? Our hurricane season starts today. I'm glad that young man is off the vent and slowly getting better. He and his family have a very long road ahead.

Ron signed on the military site for the umteenth time yesterday and discovered they'd opened up the only base with appts available for June 30 so I have one confirmed for that morning. It is hard to believe there were only appts for one day in June out of ALL of the sites within 250 miles of us.

Have a good day no matter what you are doing. Be safe.

Kris, that's excellent news. Hope he's soon home.

Sue lovely to enjoy your new deck, exactly what we did today, sun loungers for roasting ourselves and we had lunch under the canopy......ahhhhhhhhhh, bliss. This is the life!! Glad you're not aching so much. We're a hair-breathe away from completely unlocking (21st June) but with the India variant running rampant in just a few areas they are mass vaccinating and hoping target testing nips it in the bud. I'm all for giving it a few more weeks myself, but then I'm not reliant on an job. I so want things back to "normal", desperate to eat out somewhere, but when you hear the scares on the variant you just want to stay in your cave.

Verna hope you got those garden tasks done, I reckon I'll have to get the hose out tomorrow night as tomorrow is set to be another scorcher!!

I've read all the posts but no time to respond. My hip is feeling somewhat better and I need to get out to the garden and flowerbeds and get some water on them. That is the least I hope to get done but do really want to get the petunias into their pots and maybe some of the zinnias.

Caz thanks for the exercise linc. I glanced through them and believe they may be beneficial.

the sun is shining, the wind is low and the temperature is ideal right now to go for a bike ride. After my breakfast I am heading out and hopefully will meet my goal of 20 miles. I have nothing else on my agenda since I have already watered the grass seed.

CAZ, we usually sod as well but we were offered the free topsoil after having to wait so long for the cement guys and I didn't want to turn it down. If the grass doesn't start coming up by the end of the week iit will get sodded. There is grass coming up in the shadier area so I am thinking the sun has just been to much for the seeds. They have had a chance to germinate when the ran and cooler weather came however so time will tell. MY GS in law said his lawn took 4 weeks for the grass the grow in o maybe I'm just not patient enough. I also sat out on my deck last night and just enjoyed looking at the garden and all the work we have had done and appreciated everything that we have.

Kris this news about your friend's husband is very good news. I honestly didn't think he would make it will all the injuries he had but it appears that he is a fighter and that makes healing easier when a person is a strong fighter. Lets hope that he continues to get better daily until he is fully healed.

Deena, I am so happy with Zack's progress and it proves that he too is a fighter. The fact he is actually doing some school work after such a painful surgery is amazing. I hope he will do will progress even better once he is home.

Verna, I do hope your hip and feet are not so painful today. It truly sucks at all the aches and pains we incur as we get older. Hopefully the feet will start feeling better with special shoes or inserts to help alleviate the burning sensation.

MY body is not aching as much today but yes Deena, it is my fibromyalgia that has been acting up. This happens when I stop being as active as I usually am. Last week I only got the one long bike ride in and my walks have been shorter at just 2 1/2 to 3 miles which is only 30 -60 minutes of power walking as opposed to the 2 and 3 hours I was doing.

This pandemic has taken it's toll on me as well as trillions more and again I just have to exercise some patience until they start to reopen shops, restaurants, all work places and schools. Which means I have to be patient in seeing an end to this virus. Here in Ontario second vaccines are being pushed ahead and Brian and I will be able to get ours in the next couple of weeks. This gives us hope at least of a recovery from this lethal virus.

Well the open road is calling me so I'm off. Wishing everyone a marvelous Monday and be it be healthy and happy. emoticon

Susan - thank you for the update on Judy. I feel for her and hope that she has the strength to get through the treatments successfully.

My son video-called me today. We had a lovely long chat. He took me around their new apartment, now that they have it all decorated and furnished how they want it. It looks really nice.

Deena - that's good news about Zack. He appears to be going ahead in leaps and bounds now.

My friend messaged me about her husband (who was involved in that really horrible multi-vehicle accident including him being run over by a large van.) " he is making progress. He still has issues which are being managed. He has delirium, hallucinations, a clot in his lower leg and an infection somewhere. He can't swallow, so he's being fed by a tube.
The good things are his wounds are slowly getting better and all look clean. He's off his ventilation and starting to be more awake. It's just going to take time." I reminded her it is very easy to forget to take care of yourself when you are so focused on your hubby's condition, but to ensure that she makes time for herself. She said that while he is away with the fairies she is going to take some time and and spend a few days with her brother and his family about 6hrs north of where she is in Sydney.

Sue thanks for the update on Judy, so sorry to hear such news, I pray the treatments work, she's such a kind soul. Re your grass, we've always gone for sods, so much easier.

Deena wonderful news on Zack!!! Hope you got your ID sorted?! My sense of humour can be off the wall at times. Glad I make you smile...........my job here is done LOL

Ended up just sitting under the canopy yesterday admiring our handiwork. No real hot sun, just warm enough to sit out with a jumper on/.
Shucks......it had better warm up today!!!!

Saturday Zack update: He's finally ambulating more, fever is down, his smile looks genuine and not "staged" for Facebook. They are talking discharge next week with the port and Foley since the surgery seems to have delayed a return to normal bladder function. He's been doing virtual school so that means he's feeling better.

Sunday update : Zack is even better. So much has improved literally overnight! He’s ambulating even more with most of the tubes out and so it looks like he may get to go home early this week. Again, thank you all for your prayers! He appreciates them as well as well as do his moms.

Sorry I've not been on here much. It's been a stressful week. My military ID card expires in early July. We’ve tried to get an appointment all week at any base in FL without any success. They are completely booked for the month of June at ALL of the bases within 250 miles of us, and aren't accepting walk-ins. Out of desperation and frustration, we made a hotel reservation for 2 days in Georgia to try to it renewed June 7-8 at the submarine base. In GEORGIA! At 7 AM we will be standing in line hoping to get an appt on a walk-in basis. 4-hr hour drive one way. Since my military ID is my health insurance (Medicare supplement) for medication and doctor's appointments etc. I cannot let it expire. It’s a stressful mess. No wonder I’ve been dreaming of drowning or falling off the Grand Canyon.

Yea, Kris! I'm glad your sister got her wheelchair so she can have some independence. I'm glad you're finally getting the vaccine. You’ll feel a sense of relief and more independence. We’re still “masking” tho. It’s become part of my outfits.

Susan, I think I would like to get in on that 5% challenge. I have not gained any weight but since my fractures, I've gained inches so I can barely get into my capris. I couldn’t exercise for months so I’ve spread out. A LOT. I'm craving sweets because of stress. I hope that you are feeling much better, but I'm wondering if your fatigue and pain could be because of your fibromyalgia? With the weather being cold, then warm or damp, it usually makes it worse- I know it does with me. I watched The Underground Railroad but it was so depressing. How can human beings treat others people so badly? Years ago in the 70s, I read a series called Mandingo which would make The Underground Railroad read like Mary Poppins. And now look what is happening here in the states with a resurgence of racism. It's frightening and disgusting.

Speaking of sweets- we were, weren’t we? LOL, Livvie just brought over cookies that she “made”. Yep, I ate three. Lordy, I am stress eating.

Verna, I hope that your “picnic” went well. What kind of tarts were they? I hope sitting in the truck didn't aggravate your hip. When you sleep on your side, have a pillow between your knees to keep the pressure off of your hip. It keeps it in better alignment and doesn’t pull on your bursa. Caz’s stretches are good- they're like the ones that physical therapy gave me a few years ago for hip bursitis. And Verna, I won’t say that “S” word. LOL

Speaking of Caz, you have the best sense of humor! You always can make me laugh. You have to be so much fun to be around.

Susan, thank you for sharing the update about Judy. I hope that she knows how much we wish her well and send virtual hugs, strength, and prayers. I know I think of her often.

Have a nice rest-of-your-day and a good week.

Hello Ladies
I posted a message to the team wall but not sure if you got it. I received an email from Judy yesterday and I told her I would put this message on our team. This is what she had to say;

"Just wanted you to know, my cancer has spread, surgery is no longer an option. New chemo regimen starts next week to hopefully give me more time. I am feeling good though." Please keep Judy (MNNICE) in your prayers.

My heart fell as I read her words and it was difficult to respond but I reminded her about Alex Trebek and the positive attitude he had which kept him going for a good length of time. I told her to keep fighting hard and strong and to know that we all have her in our thoughts and prayers.
Let's all pray that the chemotherapy that she is about to undergo will get her into remission and give her more time.

The sun has returned and it is warming up today. There is a breeze but not a cold one so we are on our way to a nicer climate for the next week. by the weekend however it is to reach 31C and humid which will be a little hard to be outside for too long.

My grass seed is not growing and I paid a bundle for it. I just added the rest of it today and hopefully we will see results by the end of the week. If not, we are going to order sod and have it done with.

Wishing everyone a great day and may it have sunshine and smiles within it. emoticon

My hip made sleep elusive last night. I got up and took a painkiller which had helped a bit but it was pretty ouchy getting out of bed this morning. Not sure what it is seems to be in my buttocks and radiating to my back but I think that's because I'm walking a little funny and putting pressure on my back. DO NOT SAY SCIATICA!!! We are off to Lethbridge, thankfully I made lunch last night and a dear friend brought over some tarts for last night's dinner so will take some of them along as well. Pete calls it our picnic!! I'm tired of the fast food places as that's all that's available these days. My picnic may not be fancy but it's more healthy than A & W!!

Sorry to hear your achy Susan. Hopefully today will be a better day for both of us.

Gotta run and get my picnic in the truck and on the road. Hope this road trip doesn't make my hip worse.
