Thanks, Gilli. :) The medicine is called Glipizide. The only bad thing is that the way it helps is to force your pancreas to release more insulin. So I'm forced to exercise to use up the extra in my body. Only problem is that in time it will wear out my pancreas from what I've read. I need to do more research though. I intend to get it under control with exercise and diet before that happens so I don't have to keep taking it.

Booklady, I don't know, but my FBS was a little higher this morning at 124.

There is a reg. dietitician (D. Kress) who theorizes that when we go for 8 hours or more without eating, our blood glucose level drops significantly and then our livers pump glucogon into our blood stream.. this causes our fasting BS to be higher when we take it in the morning.
So, you may want to make sure you eat some carbs right before you go to bed at night. And, if you wake up in the middle of the night, you may also want to have a small snack.

Away from home 3 nights and 3 1/2 days at a conference. Glucose wasn't super good, but I did fairly well on my eating. I Subwayed with veggie salad for lunch and supper on Sunday while traveling + V8. Breakfast each morning was Greek yogurt with fruit and granola, or cottage cheese with fruit. Snacks were mixed nuts. Monday Lunch was V8 and salad. Supper that night was vegetable plate. Tuesday was a formal luncheon but I had a vegetarian entree. Tuesday night was onion soup and arugula salad. On the way home Wednesday, lunch was yogurt parfait at McDonald's and a V-8 with mixed nuts. What about dessert you may ask? Well I flunked that test -- too much chocolate available!

My latest Alc was 7.6, 1st week in June. I'm pleased it's down more than it was, but am not there yet.
This summer I'm having a lot of fluid retention so my weight is unstable. Next week I see my heart doctor so maybe he'll change my medication.
We are having a successful garden and orchard season this year so lots of fresh fruit and vegetables have been in the diet. This morning I had a fresh peach smoothie with kiwi, Greek yogurt, and almond milk. It made a good mix over my raisin bran.

I don't take my blood sugar daily. Instead, I do the A1C every six months. It's sitting squarely at 6%. It hasn't gone down in a year, but I'm pleased that it hasn't gone up! :) My doctor is telling me that resistance training is the way to go, with less focus on cardio (but I do it anyway). I also found out that my ideal weight is 115, so I have some work to do. I have PCOS with insulin resistance, and I'm trying to figure out the best vegetarian diet for me. I love vegan food, but I'm not sure I really want to try full-on vegan--it's sooooo complicated! At least, what little I know does not sound easy unless I spend a heck of a lot of time in the kitchen.

Anyway, yesterday, my fasting blood sugar was a 94 (down from 99 last year ). yay! Now, if only I can get my A1C below 5.7. That'd be great! :)

Had my 6 months check today. I've brought my A1c down from 9.1 to 8.5. We'll do a 3 month check to see if I can bring it on down to 7. The Eat to Live plan is my last ditch effort to do that. So far I've lost 4 lbs in 3 1/2 weeks on that plan.

FBS back up to 170, in spite of careful eating and daily walk. This is such a struggle. But I'm feeling great, more stamina on my walk, and the clothes are getting looser. The scales are stuck again.

I have been following Dr. Fuhrman's Eat to Live plan for a week and 3 days. I have lost 3 lbs so far and my FBS has dropped to 140! Hooray! it's working.

I have noticed I must eat before I exercise or my sugar will go up also. Now I roll out of bed. Check my FBS,usually around 133, eat breakfast and take my meds. Goof off for an hour, and then exercise. My glucose will be around 103 after exercise.

FBS was 209 this morning! It couldn't have been the delicious brown rice stuffed peppers I made for supper last night! So I'll have to blame it on the six mini-sized tootsie rolls I stole at bedtime! It's a shame that something so innocent looking could be the same as eating six spoons of sugar -- ohh! yeah!

I thought I'd try to resusitate this topic, in case anyone has morning issues, as I do. This morning my FBS was 174 -- that's up because I ate too many tortilla chips at the Mexican restaurant last night, plus all the free fat included in the soup and Mexican rice. We ate about 6:30 p.m. 4 hrs. later my glucose was 250. At bedtime, 12:00 p.m., I ate a small handful of peanuts. This morning we walked a mile before eating, after I took the FBS and drank a glass of water. When we came back from the walk, my glucose was -- wait for it!-- 177. I will never understand this body!

The last couple of weeks my FBG has been between 5 / 90 and 5.6 / 100.8, which I think is pretty good. Just when I start feeling confident, tho, wham: this morning it was 6 / 108. I know that's not 'bad,' it's just that it seems unaccountably higher than it's been, and it's a niggling sign of instability. HOWEVER - 1) last night before bed I had a banana, a small one but the whole thing, and I've long since learned they can cause a rise in my blood sugar; 2) I slept an hour later than usual this morning, and I've begun to suspect that 8 hours sleep brings me to a 'low' point in blood sugar, while any longer it starts rebounding - perhaps as the medication wears off? Dunno, but... there 'tis. :-)

Mine fluctuates a lot . It has been running high for a few weeks , but I admit I was getting a little over indulgent with Thanksgiving eating.
