JENGRAMMER,

I'm 75, so my goals are also a lot less than 10,000 steps. 3000 is "normal" goal, 5000 is very tiring for me, and the days we go to Costco and other supermarket shopping the 10,000 is fall down and collapse.

I'm a 5 year cancer survivor, and have been declared completely cured. My mother got it when she was about 50, and my older sister (who is still alive but has lymphodema in her arm) had it over 30 years ago. As did my father's mother and two out of 3 sisters. So it did not come as a surprise to me. The thing that bothered me is that I had been having mammos all through the years, and I had a digital one in August 0f 2014. It said it was normal, come back next year. But fortunately the next paragraph said "NC law requires us to tell you you have dense breasts, and then went on to say that 40% of women who have it are fine. Then a 3rd small paragraph said "In your case you have heterogeneous dense breasts and for more information go "here". I went there, and after reading it, called my doctor, who sent me for an MRI. They immediately did a biopsy, and I was scheduled for surgery the next day. What really upset me, was that after the surgery the doctor said it had been growing for 12 to 15 years, when it would normally be diagnosed in the first few years, and probably less than 8 years. I never felt any lumps because it was"deep".

I know this is a long "tirade" and not really an answer to your question, but I try to tell every woman I meet that mammos are useless, get the MRI. And pass it along to any woman you know, too.

Anyway, the result was that even though only one breast was involved, at my age, I knew I wouldn't be needing it, and my husband of 54 years loves me just as much as ever, if not more. So having unburdened myself in the midst of all this craziness we're having, I''ll just say hello and welcome here. It's a really fun place to connect to people all over the place when you can't even get to see your neighbors.

OK LADIES - I have asked the official leadership if I can help with the leadership of this team--no response yet, but I have gone down the thread here and have posted here, just below, the 3 different challenges to do this month---
GIVE THEM A TRY--ONE OF THEM--OR ALL 3--
LET US KNOW WHAT YOU DID AN HOW IT WORKED OUT:
REMEMBER: ANYTHING YOU DO IS MORE THAN YOU WERE DOING, RIGHT

10,000 steps a day! 30 minutes of fitness a day, 3 days a week!
I added a 5,000 steps a day goal as well
Goals for January. Work out everyday.

Let's DO this!

WOW Charna
I should be so lucky as to have a SIL who is a computer geek.

BTW--I'm relatively new here

WHAT ARE OUR TEAM GOALS???

UH OH--I just went to the bottom of this discussion forum and saw this"
"10,000 steps a day! 30 minutes of fitness a day, 3 days a week!

Let's DO this!"

Sorry but that's a bit too much for me--I am a Sr. Citizen so I'll have to adjust to my own goals

I'll be working at my own pace though. So that fine with me. emoticon

I hope that will be ok/

I can't think of the last time I had REAL sugar. We've been using stevia for quite a while, and nothing else that we eat hast sugar in it. I've lost a total of 75 pounds over 3 years, but seem to have reached a plateau and I can't seem to go any lower. I'm only looking for another 10 pounds, bur the doctor is happy, so I've started to cheat.

Good morning,

Did you conquer the sugar fast you started on 01/08/2020? What helped you the most?
I've been off of the Spark People teams and boards for a very long time. Just checking in this morning see see how folks are doing.

It's been a while since I really did any active exercise. I have to stay in a "vibrating machine" every morning for an hour to keep my lymphodema in check. It's so relaxing that I often fall asleep while the machine does its thing. All my other activities have to work around that.

Try to get back to exercising every day, either on the stationary bike or using the PT's suggestions..

Can't do 10,000 steps a day due to back issues but will bump up from 5000 to 5500 a day. I swim 7 hrs a week which should make up for the reduced steps.
