Ok so, I have come across a dilemma.

Last week (before I started) I would eat small portions of very unhealthy foods and drinks loads of coffee, since I became an active member here I have a had trouble balancing my diet. Basically I have cut way back on my sugar intake and unhealthy foods. I have been eating egg whites (cooked), salad with lemon and olive oil, homemade chicken sausage and drinking two cups of black tea (with milk). Now, my new issue is that my BMI is out of whack. I am not taking in enough calories and other nutrients to maintain healthy internal organs. Let alone breath after workouts and burn off calories. I try to keep up with the recommended calories in my tracker but I suck at dieting; always to far one way. I have tried snacking on almonds but once I'd have the salad etc, and water, I feel full so I can stick with the snack. Any ideas or pointers on what I should do?

Today was my third weigh in. I was disappointed. I only lost 1/2 pound. I worked out twice as hard this last week. I really wanted to hit at least one pound.

Realizing that this truly is a day to day thing and that it is a lifestyle and not a diet is really important today. I am trying desperately to stay positive and not fall into old habits of just giving up because I didn't "get" what I want.

It's a daily journey!

Just checking in after a month away from Spark Coach during the holiday season. Love it that the schedule is settling down and we are back to the routine. Kept up my walking schedule pretty well; but, failed to add my Brazilian Butt DVD for sculpting and ABS over the holidays. Just so much going on with all the events. Pretty much maintained my weight and focused on events without excess food splurges. Ready to get back to my weight training class on Monday and started back with my SP Coach program today. Here's to healthy lifestyle changes and a great New Year in 2014 for us all! emoticon

Hi, NEMOMOF2, I used to have that same challenge-getting super hungry after I exercised. I focus on getting good quality protein with a serving of whole grain carbohydrates in just before I exercise. I already have lunch planned out so if I come in hungry after exercise, I just have lunch early. That usually corrects any problems and keeps me on track. I have a SP tracker and I down load my steps which calculates my calories burned. Much to my surprise, my calorie burned is not often enough to justify a binge in the kitchen. Filling up on fresh vegetables and fruits will really satisfy the desire to splurge. One of my favorite snacks is 2 cups fresh spinach, 1/2 cup cubed apple, 1/4 cup grapes, 1/4 cup celery and 1/2 ounce of sunflower seeds or 1/2 ounce cashews. This little snack is full of natural sources of essential vitamins and minerals to help satisfy cravings for sugar. I have read where cravings for sugar and refined foods is really just the body craving the minerals and vitamins the body needs to fuel the metabolism and repair tissue after exercise. Maybe, this will offer food for thought.

Thanks DALLASNOYES2, I'll try the cucumber water!

I have a hard time getting enough protein in my diet. My stomach often rebels at the thought of meat, so i'll have to try to incorporate more yogurt, eggs, and beans into my diet.

Try to incorporate a little good fat into your diet. Fat is good for satiety. It keeps you feeling full for a longer time, and helps you develop will power because you don't feel so hungry.

Not sure why but now that I am exercising I am craving excessive amounts of food., Good for me food, but too much food. How do I stop this destructive trend?

We had 18 people here for the holidays (8 of them under 14) and 3 dogs and 1 cat. I'm still finding stuff they left behind and can't find the birthday present I need for tomorrow. Gotta go hunting...

Hi I'm new to this team. I'm working on getting organized about eating healthy and exercising. It seems I have to many obstacles and I have trouble taking care of me because of it. emoticon
I do keep coming back and I keep tracking all that I eat, I don't register my exercises because I'm not doing traditional ones. But I did a lot of walking back and forth from my house the garage to the shed carrying boxes or tubs. So I'm thinking that this is some kind of exercise. emoticon

That diffuser idea sounds interesting. What fruits and/or vegetables are suggested? I'm assuming lemon is a popular one, but I can't drink it because the acidity gives me heartburn. Any other options?

I'm not very hungry for breakfast, but I know that if I don't eat, I'm choosing fattening, high carb stuff by noon. I try to at least have some fruit and yogurt even if I'm not very hungry. Lately I've been making green smoothies and that's been great--easy on my stomach and lots of fiber. I put in two servings of fruit and two servings of veggies, plus milk.

how about some flavored water? there are these new diffusers, that you add fruits and/or vegetables to a small container in the middle of the water bottle. i got one as a gift, haven't tried it yet but it looks interesting.

I'm back on "track" but find myself eating when I'm not hungry! So I will stick to a regime of eating 3 meals a day, and plan on snacks ... breakfast at 7:30 am, snack at 9:00 am, lunch at 12:00 pm, snack at 2:00 pm, dinner at 5:30 pm and snack at 7:00 pm.
Listened to a doctor on TV talking about only eating between noon and 5:00 pm, no breakfast, and nothing after 5:00 pm ... said the body needs a time to rest between meals. And he said you could eat all the vegetables you wanted in that 5 hour period! Anyone else heard this? I'm struggling - gained a pound last week - seem to be stuck!

"The Holidays"are finally over for us--the last of our family left yesterday afternoon. I started on Sparkpeople and Spark Coach last week, in the midst of company and living in one of those subzero cities in the midwest. It made both eating and exercise challenging (never did exercise except 10 minutes of tossing a ball around with my granddaughter). Anyway, if I could make it through this past week successfully, I think I can make it through anything. We had several large family meals and ate out at fancy restaurants twice. I was at the high end of my calorie range, but I managed!

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away...and, remember "slow and steady wins the race".

Hi everybody! I've been on SparkCoach a week now although I have been on SparkPeople for a few years, just not consistently. I've realized that my one really bad habit is snacking while I work at the computer. It's the one thing I fall back on when I'm stressed and under deadline, snacking on chips while I work. It makes me feel like I can think better and focus, although I know it's all just in my head. Instead, if I need to snack, I want to do it away from my computer so I can be more mindful of my food. I've been sipping tea and coffee while I work. I'd like to build the better habit of getting used to working without chewing something in my mouth, so that when stress and deadlines hit again, I won't fall back on snacking.

Today makes three days on this site. The first day I didn't eat enough, the second day nutrition was perfect, today I ate too much. However, I've learned two things about myself thus far: 1) I am a midnight snacker (got up about 1 am and snagged two delicious, cold weiners on Tuesday) and 2) Even when I'm not hungry, I crave the flavor of food. No matter how much water I drink to work through it, I just want to eat to eat not because I need to (and I'm not a spitter where I can chew food and then spit it out).

The kicker is I only have that need at home and after 6:00 pm and before 5 am. In my house, the kitchen, dining room and living room is one big unit so it's not like I can say, "Just stay out of the kitchen". The pantry is in the hall and I pass it whenever I go into the restroom. And believe me after all the water I drink to try and keep from eating when I'm not hungry, I'm to there a lot.

Starting over on Spark coach. I need to get the basics down again. It's a long road ahead of me but I'm ready for it my small goals are to lose 5 pounds, give myself a pep talk everyday, eat one piece of fresh produce a day, and stretch everyday. I'm also goinf to try to do some form of exercise for at least 10 minutes a day. wish me well!
