Dicyclomine caused severe dizziness for me. I don't really have pain with Acid Reflux, so much, as I have it with IBS. My acid reflux causes me to have a lot of muck in my throat and sinuses when I eat. I was surprised when two of my medical providers agreed that it's acid reflux. The first one to diagnose me with it said you don't have to have pain or burning for it to be acid reflux.

I'm also experimenting with stopping eating when I have the first stomach spasm and trying again after 30 minutes or so. That way, I don't end up vomiting which only irritates my throat that much more. Usually I can manage a few bites without having to take dicyclomene and waiting for it to work.

A family members doctor told her to trial her once a day reflux med at bedtime or late evening since most of her discomfort happens at bedtime. She’s only had a few nights in so far and she thinks it’s helping. I’m considering trying it too.

Omeprazole and Pantapraxole also made me worse. Sorry I keep trying to reply to people and it ends up in the main feed.

Cold brew coffee is less acidic and easier to digest. Just FYI.

Mine occurs at night. Obviously wine or beer are a huge pain. I sleep on a big wedge- it sucks and it doesn't help at all. I stop eating 3 hours before bed. I take pantapraxole and famodidine. Im starting to exercise a lot lately and cutting my portions to very very small portions. Currently my throat is still always swollen and I am trying to get it under control. Coffee is so hard to quit but I have done good within lemons/citrus other than strawberries, tomatoes or cheese.

If I have messed up with my food that day I will take an acid reducer and a tums and that takes care of it most of the time. I do try chewing gum when I get a hint of the burn and sometimes if I haven't messed up too much with my food choices that day it will go away but if not then it is time for the combo.

As I lose weight I find that the the burn occurs less and less until there is none no matter the choices as long as I keep to small portions and avoid desserts.

Besides not eating too much after 7, I’ve been taking Pepcid complete. I try to limit myself to one right before bed if I’m worried about reflux. Now this is going to seem strange, but when I drink a glass of water mixed with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in the morning, it helps my digestion and makes me feel more comfortable. After meals, I take Papaya enzyme. Since doing these two things, I rarely take any antacid during the day. I still take Pepcid right before bed though, just to avoid waking up choking on reflux which still sometimes happens. Sleeping elevated helps with that.

I take dexilant everyday for GERD. It's the only thing that works for me. I take mylanta for flare ups and alka seltzer acid relief gummies. Bananas seem to help my acid reflux when it's mild. Oatmeal helps too. Also drink lots of water! emoticon

I have chest pain very often too, sometimes during the day, but mostly at night. Have you come up with a way to alleviate these pains. I have had two trips to the ER thinking it was my heart. They ruled that it by giving me a chemical stress test. These pains last for hours. Sometimes Gas X helps, but not always.

update to post dated 06/17/17 - coughing not so much caused by acid reflux, but by blood pressure medicine - Lisinopril. Once I stopped taking it coughing ceased within a week. I was taking 2 different blood pressure meds, so Doctor said if it was such a nuisance and blood pressure remained in the normal range, I could discontinue taking Lisinopril.

I've been taking omeprazole (20 mg daily) for a few months and honestly I think it's making the problem worse! I want to come off of it, but didn't know if I could stop cold turkey or needed to check with my Dr.

I have been reading posts on acid reflux and no one mentions coughing. I have had a nagging cough for awhile and my GI doc said it was caused by acid reflux. I take Omeprazole daily but it does not seem to help with the coughing. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have been experiencing acid reflux since January of this year. They said it was triggered by food poisoning. Dr. had me on five different acid reducer meds at one time and had my stomach acid so low food was sitting in my stomach making me ill. I went off all meds and sipped applce cider vinegar for relief. I felt relief for a few months but since August it has come back with vengance. I did research as last Gastro doc told me that sympotoms were all in my head. I am questioning if I have a hiatal hernia but having a hard time getting doctors to listen to me. Research suggests that acid sympotms are from the hernia. Do you ever feel like someone is squeezing your stomach in the palm of their hand hard and pushing up into your throat. Also, I feed nauseated and loss of appetite those symptoms started two weeks ago. I am feeling hopeless that I will ever feel better again. I tried everything I can think of. Can anyone out there offer suggestions. I dont' want to live this way the rest of my life.

For me, it's about eating smaller meals throughout the day, even though I do make my breakfast a bigger meal and my dinner a small one. Also, no food 3 hours prior to be. I also sleep on a wedge pillow to raise my head. It seems to help.

When I was pregnant I ate a lot of pudding to help calm down my acid attack.
But when I know I will have one all day I take off that day from work and eat a lot of chicken soup and crackers. With me water makes it worse, because it disturbs the acid in your stomach.

I hope that you have found a solution but if you haven't - do you stay sitting up or standing for awhile after you take your vitamin? Maybe you can eat a bit more with it?

so I have decided to stop taking omeprazole (prescription) last week after more than a decade (hiatus hernia). I found out it can block the absorption of calcium and I was diagnosed with early onset osteoporosis last year. Coincidence ??? NOT. I believe it also blocks some other vitamins. I was also more susceptible to food poisoning and any stomach flu going around (my family would eat the same thing I eat and not have any problems).
So far this week I have tried:
not eating after dinner (helps), Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice or DGL (helps), water(helps), tums, and zantac (helps). I have also avoided spicy food, chocolate and alcohol. I still get pains every 2-3 hours, but at night time I feel fine which is usually my worst time. I did also try eating lemon peel (dr oz) but it really didn't help. I am going to try the apple cider vinegar and apple a day as well. I would like to avoid Zantac in the future as well. Thanks for the additional tips.

To be honest since watching what I've been eating my gerds has been acting up alot and I have been having to take medicine every day. So I'm not sure what is going on, we have been told that the fried foods and fatty stuff is whats not good for u. Ok I see that but I have not been eating any of that. So unless its my system having to get used to cutting out the fried and fatty foods then I have no Idea.

Have a great day and make good choices

But don't you want to figure out how to heal yourself instead of needing permanent medication?
I do. I'm taking the pills, but it's only to get my esophagus healed. I want to figure out what I need to eliminate from my diet to keep it healed.

When I get an attack I need a small glass of milk.
Take nexium& chew tums if I can't find milk.
Have GERD. Get bowel-obstructions since 2005. Spent 16 days 2 yrs ago w/ surgery.
Got another attack last April. In hospital 3 days( no surgery so far).
Usually as long as I take the nexium I stay out of the hospital w/ bowel-obstructions.
Just don't always remember the nexium.
Have a great week everyone.

For years I had a cast iron stomach but no more. Now after a breakfast of two scrambled eggs, I get heartburn and found that a few drops of apple cider vinegar in a 6oz glass of water helps.

At night it's different. When Tums don't help I mix baking soda in a small glass of water. It's like not enough stomach acid in the AM then too much late in the day.

I also read that a raw green apple once a day helps, and so far, that has worked for me if I eat it before the discomfort starts. I try to remember to get that acid working right after a meal and not wait a couple hours. I need it to help digest the food. An apple a day keeps the doctor away :-)

Hi all. Thanks for all your tips to help with GERD.
I drink milk when I get an attack( cramps, burning& can not breath&pain). I also have nexium they are expensiveh& the cheaper ones make me sick. So I hardly take them.
In 2012 had a bowel-obstruction surgery from 7 yrs of attacks like labor-pains in intestines. Dr. Said from stress. So I try& stay away from stress, but right now it's hard to do. ( see mypage if you want more info on my husband's condition).
Anyways I like this site& appreciate your comments.
Blessings^ j^
