I have chronic kidney disease due to the diabetes, and can't use any of the preset diets... but I used the nutrition tracker for a few weeks and took the results to my renal diet specialist, and she went over it with me and told me how many calories etc I needed, what nutrients to stay away from etc. I went in and set all the parameters manually, and it has been working pretty well for me...

"The real secret of success is enthusiasm..." thanks, Walter P. Chrysler. I believe it. That's what I want in my life--to give my imagination a chance, to live with energy and enthusiasm!
P.S. I looked up enthusiasm, and it says the root words mean God within... interesting...!

Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'Life belongs to the energetic.' But I don't think you have to be frenetic and hyper--some energy is quiet and steady, like a heartbeat... and that works too!

PPencil,

Were you setting up the Healthy Lifestyle or the SparkDiet? It was the Healthy Lifestyle that set me us with maintenance calories. The Diet section set me up with the appropriate number of calories to lose weight.

I got an appropriate calorie amount for the goal I set. Hm, maybe it depends upon what you put in initially. I use the calorie range as a guide. I can't eat as many carbs as they recommend generally though, at least not more simple carbs.

Thanks for the tip CathWren. I know if I ate the calorie range they gave me, I would be gaining weight too. I have to adapt my eatingto my diabetes and kidney disease.

Above all, donít live with regrets. Approach life with perseverance and dedication to the things that matter most to you. Success is never easy. It remains up to you whether you will give up, or fight through the tough battles to earn whatever it is you want.

It is an alpaca, a smaller cousin to the camel and llama. They come from Peru mostly and are very popular here in the Pacific NW. Their hair is extremely soft and warm and makes great sweaters and scarves.

You're welcome.

No, I wish. I just thought it was a cute picture. On my SparkPage it has the caption "Does my butt look big?"

My dream is to become well enough to have a small alpaca ranch.

When I first signed up with SparkPeople, they said the diet was not diabetic-friendly and recommended that I just sign up for the improving health part. I thought that meant that I just wouldn't get the menu plan but it turns out, you miss out on all the steps but the first. So today I reset my nutritional goals.

Good thing too. Apparently, the calorie goals they set for me were maintenance goals and, since I'm so out of shape and my metabolism has slowed so much, those goals actually caused me to GAIN weight! Yikes! They were more than 1000 cal too high!

I wanted to mention this in case anyone else has experienced the same confusion.
