If you have a phone, just go to the app store or Google Play and search for Line. It's a green square with the word Line in white. You install it, create a username, create an ID, then send it to me via Sparkmail. Or just let me know once you're up and running on it, and I'll Sparkmail you my ID so you can find me and add me as a friend. Then I'll invite you to the group.

@MINNIEUK and anyone else who wants to join, I created a group called Sparkly Folks but can't see a way to search for groups anymore. I guess Line changed that feature. So, I can only add you if I know your Line IDs, or if we're Line friends.

So, if you want to join, you'll need to message me within Spark and either give me your Line ID (not display name) and I can invite you to the chat directly. Or ask (in SparkMail) for my Line ID and you can friend me there and then I can invite you that way.

Minnie yes, if you've got the line app, shoot me a sparkmail with your Line ID (not the username, the ID) and I'll invite you as soon as I set it up. Up to right now, I only had one other person interested so I hadn't set it up, but I will now! I may be able to send you a groupname directly. But since it's going to be a private group, we may have to do it via invite.

Hope you haven't had any more power outages Becca. It's scary how dependent we all are on internet and electricity.

Red, we used to call those bouncy sit on balls Space Hoppers. Maybe I'll get my husband one for his home office. Then again he might squash a cat, he's not the most co-ordinated person!

I seem to be always decluttering, so I'm planning to travel light out of SP. I'll be deleting blogs and photos. AAAACK let me know if you set up the Line group. It would be good to keep in touch.

Losing electricity really is one of the worst things! I feel lost without internet access and we don't have that without the electricity to power our wi-fi.

I was watching the Westminster dog show, and we were having a heavy rain. Pop! No more electricity. Still waiting for it to get turned on. I reported it to the electric company as soon as it happened.

Thankfully, I had charged my little battery generator, or I wouldn't be online now!

I also have two battery powered fans which are helping us from being miserable. emoticon

Yoga ball chair disasterS as in multiple. Oh I could list them all, and we'd have fun. Maybe one a day?

It's a ball (round) on a ring (round) with casters (round). And what do round things do? Well, they roll. If you nudge them, they roll away. And so...as you try to sit down, it tries to get away from you. This is all well and good if you remember that when you're trying to sit! But if, like me, you're a busy person and are distracted in the least when you try to sit down...well, let's just say a fall at my age is a bit of a shock! And I'm embarrassed to say, more than once! LOL You'd think I'd learn.

OK as far as shutting conversations down, if anyone (international, too) is interested in continuing to chat, there's a platform called Line. It's available for desktop computers (from what I hear, I only do it on my phone) and for phones. I used it for many years with my gaming community without incident. We had private groups where you had to be invited. You could submit a request to join if search is turned on for the group name.

I am planning to create a group as soon as I can connect with one other person within the app because I can't create it with only me. As crazy as I am, multiple moods don't constitute a group, LOL.

So, let me know if you're interested.

AAAACK, I'm laughing as I picture the yoga ball chair disaster. I always thought one of those kids bouncy yoga balls with the head/face/ears for handles would be a fun choice for an office chair... I'd be bouncing around the office!

Ah team... I'm going to miss this. I'm really sad about Spark shutting down. Thanks to all of you for your encouragement, words of wisdom, and being a sounding board when needed. (((Hugs)))

It is with a sort of numb sense of incredulity that I must pass along that Sparkpeople is closing in August.

For some, this has been home to our hopes and fears surrounding more of life than just weight. We've made friends. We've been through emotional situations together. We've discovered things about ourselves through our amazing chatter in this group.

While I've had periods of personal challenge that prevented me being here, both I_CHOOSE and MINNIEUK have taken tender care of this group in my absence, and continued after my return. And I'd like to thank them here, for their caring for my awesome group while I couldn't. They are both wonderful human beings.

I'd also really like to congratulate all of you for the growth and progress you've made while here. Each of you has contributed something to this team. Even as our activity dwindled, I still hold dear the conversations, the pop-ins to say hello, and all of the interactions we've had here. Thank you for being a part of this supportive and awesome team!

Where do we go from here? I'm honestly not sure. I don't like that SparkAmerica and Spark360 are US-only offerings. I don't know why they're not including our international friends. But I don't really want to re-create a group without them.

I don't like to use Facebook for much. The privacy is a little too loosey-goosey for my liking. I've considered Line instead, which a lot of gamers use, and it's very private. It's also international. However, I haven't seen all that much activity in I Matter in recent months to think that anyone would actually be interested in something like that. Perhaps it's time to wave a fond farewell to one another and be on our healthy way.

I will try, in the coming days, to put anything administrative I find out about the transition down in the Spark Mysteries forum of our team. If anyone else wants to put things there (like how to download your weight, measurement, and other histories) please feel free.

If you'd like to pop by to say farewell, the wall is a good place for a quick one, and the main chat for a longer goodbye.

I will miss each of you, come mid-August, and will remember our time together very fondly!
Sincerely,
-Lisa

Oh Becca! Wouldn't that be too much fun, if we could all get together and hang out! I would so love that! Although, I'm sure I would be the one in the group who comes up with all the ideas that aren't so healthy! We would have a good time though!

I love both your ideas, AAAACK and Becca, about chopping up a treat in little bite size pieces. My problem is, then I would just eat it like a bag of chips...one little bite at a time, in one sitting! emoticon

AAAACK, I have the worst desk chair in the world. I keep on hoping an arm or a leg will just fall off randomly so I can have a reason to order a new one. It is absolutely the worst! It sits at a position where it tends to thrust your body forward, so I find myself sitting on the edge of the chair, often. It's just not comfortable in any way. Good luck on your hunt! Are the yoga balls as desk chairs still a thing?

Aaaack, I love your idea with the brownie. I did something similar for my elderly (97 yrs old) aunt. I made a spice cake with raisins and cut tiny bite sized pieces for her. She was very happy!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

That chip/dip fanny pack idea made me smile so much! What a fun day that sounded like.

I also have a flat runner's pack, mine's the Nathan, and I bought a 2-pocket knock-off as well. But with my hip pain, I had to stop using anything that went around my waist. Even a belt with nothing hanging from it/in it, can make my pain worse. Even tight pants! So that's why I was so happy to find a cross body bag that was rugged enough, spacious enough, and comfortable for wearing for an hour or more. It's super lightweight. So it doesn't mess with my shoulder problems.

Heck, I need a new body! All these aches and pains, LOL.

That is an awesome pack! I love it! I have a little Nike pack that I use on day hikes. I also have a runner's fanny pack that holds my phone, keys, and id. It's really flat and you can't really tell I have it on. I use this when I go on walks in town with friends in the evenings. Funny story about fanny packs though...For Cinco' a couple of friends/co-workers, had a walk a bout in the Cemetery. So I made margaritas, and one brought 3 large/regular sized fanny packs. The third brought chips and salsa. So, margarita's in hand, fanny packs on, and stuffed with tortilla chips, and a little Rubbermaid container filled with salsa in each pack, and we were out for our walk a bout. There is nothing like having chips and salsa on a walk. We just walked, dipped, drank..Fantastic! Likely not the way those are usually used, but none the less, if you ever get the opportunity to make use of this tip...grasp it and do it! It was amazing! emoticon

I bought a brownie the other day. Then when I got home I was like, dude, why did you DO that? So I chopped it into 16 pieces. Each piece is 26 calories. They're SMALL, but tasty. I ate one and put the rest in the freezer. Waaaay in the back. When I'm craving a brownie, I should be able to get a little bite to savor. Even 2 bites wouldn't kill my calorie total. That's my thinking, anyway.

I received the 9 oz metal S'well bottle, and also got a 6oz plastic FlipBelt Arc replacement bottle (no I don't have the running belt). The S'well is SO heavy! I think the top weighs as much as the entire running bottle! The 6oz arrived first and I used it on a walk in my tiny pack. It was great! The 9oz does fit in the pack, but it's so heavy. I think it'll be of good use in hot summer when I really want the water to be cooler.

My pack is a cross-body bag that can be converted to a waist pack. From Wal-Mart of all places, for 8 bucks! I love the thing so much that I bought a second one for when the first one breaks. It's been nearly a year and it hasn't broken yet. It holds SO much for a short hike/walk. www.walmart.com/ip/Outdoor-P

Oh Gaads Becca, I'm so glad you found a neurologist that is going to work well for you! So hard to find medical care. And double bonus that the Wahls plan is looking to work as well! This is all so encouraging! I have to admit bran and raisins doesn't sound like an indulgence to me! LOL! I'm more chocolate cake and brownies... emoticon

AAAACK, I never thought about getting a 9oz bottle. What a great idea! That would take up so little room in a day pack! I'm going to look for a HydroFlask that is on the smaller side of life. I know they make them. I just always looked at them as being made for kids. But, day hiking would be perfect! And, yet another excuse to shop for a new one! LOL! emoticon

I have been better with my eating the last few days. I too seem to not see results until 3-5 days later. So, I'm going to be patient, and not stress on the scale number. You are both right...it's just a number. I'm going to repeat that to myself today!

Oh, Becca, garden centers are nice! For me, it's one of those places I step in the door and time zooms by on the outside. When I emerge, I'm like it's what time? Oh no! LOL But time well spent.

Embi - I just ordered a S'Well 9 oz bottle for our short walks. I wanted something that would pop into my pack without leaking. So I'm trying it. If I like it, I've got my eye on some of their other ones. But at the same time, I'm trying to declutter so why am I doing that LOL! Well, they do have purposes - and since they supposedly keep stuff cold for like 12-18 hours and hot for nearly that, I'm dreaming of all the uses of all the sizes and shapes.

Yes, I'm a container freak! All shapes, sizes, uses. You should see how excited I get by the Rubbermaid fruit/veg savers. My nested glass bowls with rubbery lids. My bags for lunches. OH I could go on and on and onnnnnn. LOL

It's great you two are enjoying your hikes! Lovely!

I think I can work with neurology office. I saw a really nice and knowledgeable nurse today, and found out that my diet interventions are working! I am thrilled!

I took a stroll at a gardening center today. I got some veggie plants, a cute little angel statute, and some pink blooming flower baskets for my sis. I have other areas nearby that I will be taking walks too.

It was a great day!

Yes! Exactly Lisa! Hikes "alone". It was so refreshing! I'm glad you got a chance to get out and do the same thing.

I have discovered something odd, and new...I am a Hydro Flask fanatic. So, I have quite a few different ones, as well as Don. I play right into their plan of new colors, different sizes, etc. But anyway, so In my downsizing I have narrowed it down to two. I have a 24 oz, that travels easy, on hikes, and a 32 oz that I use at work. Well, I was without my 32 oz for a week, as I left it in a friends truck, so I was using my 24 oz at work. And, only drinking 24 oz. So this week, I happen to have both of them at work, and I am drinking them both gone. So, apparently, no matter what size of jug I have in front of me, I will drink just that amount. I'm keeping with both of them at work from now on, and maybe, just maybe I will purchase a new 24 oz to go on hikes with me, or maybe I need a new 32 oz, to have two of them at work? I'm not sure on the logistics, but for sure I have found yet another excuse as to why I for sure need a new one! emoticon

Hikes alone are so awesome! I mean alone with a buddy or two. Something about being in nature without crowds of humans we don't know...it just makes my spirit soar! We did that Sunday, and we passed a total of 3 people on our 3.2 mile hike. And 2 of them were together, and the other person was running so we only saw him for a couple of seconds. It was so nice!

I hope everybody had a fabulous weekend! I was able to meet up with a couple of hiking buddies, and we did a hike out in the San Juan Islands. It was just beautiful! We arrived at our start point at 7:30 in the morning. Long before anybody was up and about. I can't remember the last time that we had a trail to ourselves! We met nobody! We even sat out on the rocks above the water and had a little breakfast...also, nobody around. On our trek back, we began to meet other hikers. But, boy was it fantastic, and a real treat, to have a couple of hours with nothing but ourselves and nature....we saw banana slugs, eagles, porpoise, and a few seals. It was so rejuvenating! emoticon

Now, it's back to work...Yesterday was a tad stressful, but I still have hope for the rest of the week. The sun is supposed to be out which makes the park busy with lots of visitors. And after Mother's Day weekend, there are tons of beautiful spots of color with the bouquets left at gravesides. Love it! Of course, in a week, it will look like a battleground, with fallen bouquet soldiers everywhere...LOL! But, the grounds team will quickly win that battle!

Have a good day everybody!

Yes, @BECCABOO127 ! I'm sick of rude doctors, too! I try to be understanding, they're on the front lines right now and probably suffering from their own anxiety to some extent, and under a lot of stress and strain. But dang it, we're paying for care, and they don't seem to remember who is paying their bills!

emoticon all!

Sunflora.org has great water soluble cbd. The stores are also in Florida. I tried delta 8 which didn't help my pain at all and gets you high without the fun part of being high. The states are busy making it illegal. It personally made me feel sick! It helped me go to sleep, but I have melatonin gummies for that.

I take the cbd oil tincture once a day, and then squirt the water soluble in my water bottle to sip on during the day. It helps my arthritis pain.

If and when I move back to So Cal, I will let u know Aaaack. I still haven't given up my residency there.

I am glad to be stuck in KY for now with a democratic in charge. He helped keep the covid numbers down. My sister's Florida home does not have a dog run installed yet, and I am too tired to walk the dogs for their restroom times. Here, we have a fenced in back yard.

As to doctors, my neurologist fussed at me during my first appointment when I expressed excitement for following the Wahl's protocol. He thinks she is a snake oil salesman and was very rude to me. At this point, I don't care to get a diagnosis! I am sick of rude doctors!

The neurologist never followed up with me either. I hope to find one who is not adverse to the Wahl 's protocol. Good luck to that in KY! lol!

I had fun catching up on the thread. Hope u all have a good week coming up.

Our full moon was also quite striking! It was like daytime out there.

Yes, I am going to find a new doc, and get the procedures done. I'm going to take my time finding someone though. I may go see my endocrinologist before finding a new doc, though. He may have some insight as to what's going on with me b/c he actually sends me for bloodwork before my appointment.

And I have an appt with a new GYN soon (mine retired and the practice closed). So I'm thinking I'll get the mammogram and CT and have the results sent to the GYN and the Endo.

I'm still not in a great place with food, but I think today's weekly weigh-in should urge me into action. Not a good day for body numbers for me :( I need to remember that if I don't do the work, the weight isn't just going to disappear. I know that sounds ultra obvi but I put it here as a written reminder to myself.

What can I do for myself today?

OMG LISA! That sounds like a story line for a nightmare! I would definitely look for another doctor. I'm sorry you are going through all that! I agree with Elizabeth, at least the mammogram would be a good idea. I wonder why he scoffed at that. Our breast tissue goes pretty deep and is wide spread into the pits, etc. What an A.S.S. Those are the letters that he should have behind his name instead of M.D.

I have been so lazy lately. I don't seem to have the gumption to want to get up and do anything! I actually would be embarrassed if anybody popped by our place for a visit. I'm hoping I can pull myself out of this drudgery quickly! I did take the trash out...I didn't want the place to smell bad as well as be dirty!? emoticon

Did anybody see the full moon last night? It was so gorgeous! It peeks in through my bedroom window. I had two glasses of water in the windowsill for Don and I to drink today. I drank mine, and Don will drink his when he rises this morning. He slept really good last night too, which is odd for him. I took a picture of the moon through our bedroom window, but of course my cell phone doesn't give it due justice. I'll add it on here. It was so bright...10 PM and it looked like it was the middle of the afternoon.

Anyway, hope everybody has a fabulous day!

Not sure why that is sideways...Can't figure out how to fix it either! emoticon

How awful! Doctors who don't listen do not deserve us.

I'd probably go ahead with the tests, Lisa, especially the mammo but definitely start looking for a new doctor. Although you aren't old enough for medicare, you could start by poking around "find a doctor" under Medicare.gov. You can filter by specialty if that's what you are looking for. Among other things, when comparing doctors, you can find how long they have been in practice, where they went to school, etc.

Thanks, Elizabeth. I think that's why I don't want someone who is only a DO. I want someone who is also an MD.

My current doc, MD, family medicine, pretty much scoffed at me through my whole last visit. I have a spot that's been sore beneath my underarm area - in the bra-strap area. It's been sore more than a year!! And it's very sore. He sent me for an x-ray even though I said it felt like soft tissue. And he even said, I'm sending you for an x-ray even though it's not going to show anything. I was like...um ok WTF?

Then I went for the followup and said yes, it's still sore. What could it be? It's not like cancer is it? He scoffed out loud and said, what kind of cancer? What do you think is under there?! I said, could it be breast cancer? (I'm super large there, and it's conceivable to me that there could be breast tissue that far back! He didn't need to be a jerk about it).

Then he said, if I sent you for a CT scan, will you stop worrying about it?

I was like um ok maybe I just won't come back, bunghole.

He also said, regarding my GERD, that I must be "allergic" to the Prilosec b/c I was having headaches daily while on it. I said, "allergic? wow." He said, no not allergic, sensitive. If I hadn't questioned it, I'd have walked out of there under the impression I have a new allergy! Bad bad doctoring.

Then he said, while switching me to a different med, that we should always take the least amount of medicine possible to get the result we need. I've told him in the past, as well as during that appointment, that my body overreacts to every medicine I've ever taken. I take child doses of nearly everything. He then turned around and prescribed me double the OTC "maximum strength" for Prevacid! I said, can I just start with 20 or 10mg? He said NO, pretty forcefully. (and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten headaches if he'd started with 10mg of Prilosec instead of 40mg)

And I wanted to ask if the purple marks on my arms were petechiae from the meds, but he said he'd look at it next time. I really felt like I was being given the bum's rush.

So now I have an order for a CT scan and mammogram and I'm not sure I even want to schedule them b/c I don't intend to go back to him.

I had a D.O. once - horrible experience! However, I will admit that I think it was the particular doctor, not the specialty.

She refused to believe me when I went in on Monday and told her I was concerned that I had a blood clot in my arm. "That doesn't happen". She was sure there was something wrong with my bones or something and ran x-rays and I don't know what else. Finally on Friday she sent me for an MRI, which confirmed my personal diagnosis and I was on blood thinners for the next six months. Once the blood clot was confirmed, she was determined blood clots are a side effect of cancer so I really must be sick. Not cancer at all but rather abuse by the phebotomist from the blood donation bus. Anyway, I very quickly changed doctors and she soon left the HMO to start her own practice. Some people really liked her but she definitely did not have the training to deal with my issues.

This person was also a member of the tai chi society. When she was explaining something once, she simply could not remember the proper name for certain body parts. The names were supplied by the member who was a massage therapist. Can you tell I'm not impressed. I do feel pretty sure that she wasn't representative of Osteopathic doctors in general.

My current doctor specializes in sports medicine. I thought that would be helpful considering my muscle/nerve issues.

I have never been to an osteopath. I would love to hear more if you find one, and are pleased with the care!

I hope everybody had a fantastic weekend! I had a particularly lazy weekend. I'm ready now to take on the week (I think). I actually really did myself in, as now the weeknights will be full of all the chores I didn't do this weekend! I've got to do laundry, pull the sheets and remake the bed, sweep/mop, dishes, ugh...all of it! I will keep reminding myself in the evenings, that I had a fantastic weekend, and it was worth it! LOL!

Oooh, Elizabeth, you could move to SoCal! It's just a drier and bluer version of FL. LOL. Of course, we've got those nasty fire storms, but no hurricanes/tornadoes (ok, there may have been a rogue one here or there in the past 100 years). And San Diego tends to be slightly reddish in spots.

Hey have any of you ever been to an osteopath? I'm considering leaving my doctor b/c he's begun to be very short, only 2 complaints per visit, which sometimes I think things are interrelated but we don't get to explore those b/c of his rule. And he doesn't listen like he used to. He also contradicted himself and prescribed me meds in the strongest form even after I asked for milder b/c my body goes haywire on meds and I just can't take another try at one right after finishing one. So I'm considering the more touchy feely version - an MD who is also a DO. What do you guys do for medical care?

What can I do for myself today?

It's a whole different world out there in the world of pot. At least here in Washington! We live in Bellingham, and it is crazy expensive! (I mean the cost of living, not the pot in particular. Although, top shelf can be quite a bit.) I am not fond of the other half of the state. Wenatchee? For me, I would rather do Leavenworth...Spokane...if I HAD to be on the other side of the state, I could maybe reside there. It's so funny, as my family lives over in Walla Walla, so we visit a couple of times a year...and I just feel a sadness come over me when we head that way. There is something about that half of the state that I just really don't like. Even the tree's aren't as pretty. IMO...LOL! But, now give me a Florida beach..I feel like I might like that!

I can't even imagine "name brand pot", Embi! Although medicinal use is legal here in FL, you have to go through hoops to get a user license, the stores that do sell are very non-descript so you hardly know they are there unless you have said license to use. They are relatively few and far between, I believe. Not our Legislature is trying to pass laws regarding the amount of THC that is allowable "per dose". I guess their (mostly) law degrees were transmuted to medical degrees after they got elected.

I can't afford to move anywhere else and don't know where I'd want to go (Bellingham? Wenatchee? Spokane? or maybe back to Colorado?) but there are times I truly am ashamed to admit I'm a Floridian. Home of the original Trumpster and a fistful of "wanna-be"s.

It's legal here, too. People sell CBD products at the farmers markets! And there are so many legal shops, too. But you have to have a license to sell it.

What a funny topic for us to be chatting about. And I love it!

Yes, pot is legal here in WA. Although I think the Federal laws still haven't gotten on board with that train of thought. So, it makes it interesting when the state legalizes, but the Feds don't. Some employers here test for it, some don't. It just a real jumbled ball of confusion.

For myself, I enjoyed pot much more when it was a struggle to find it. And when you did score, oh if it wasn't a celebration, and was it good, and look at this...blah, blah...now, it's all name brand, and found at every street corner in a brick and mortar store. Oh, how things have changed!

Everybody have a fun day! Chat soon!

Isn't pot legal in WA now? I was a minor pot grower back in the day. Minor meaning just a couple of plants, not underage. The the military became very strict with punishment if you got caught, back in the 80's, so we gave all that stuff up. I still do have fond memories, though.

The legislature, here, is totally anti pot (or anything they cannot control and make $$ from) and they absolutely do NOT like having the citizens tell them what to do. The end result is that they pass "guidance" legislation that defies the will of the citizens who voted for our State Constitutional Amendments. It doesn't matter what the subject is, if the citizens vote against what the Legislature wants, the Legislature passes additional rules that basically castrates the intention of the people.

I was happy to have a couple over to our backyard for a nice chin wag. It was so nice to visit and catch up. I also served my homemade chili from my momma's recipe. It was a big hit!

This Monday, my BIL and my niece and nephew are coming for a backyard visit. My sister is too sick to come. I told her we would figure out a way to visit.

I was referring to our own buses. They take residents to all kinds of places - theater & concerts, restaurants, shopping, fairs & festivals, off-campus fitness activities. They have been shut down since the onset of COVID last March and when they first begin being used again, it was only for necessary medical appointments with a single resident at a time.

A marketing "sell" for these LifePlan communities is that many residents don't feel the need for a car of their own because the Community takes you anywhere and everywhere you want to go...more or less. After the last year, though, I'll keep a car for as long as I can still drive. We have one resident who moved in last March and has not set a foot off campus since! She seems content enough but it would drive me nuts. emoticon

BTW - 98% of our residents ARE vaccinated which is why they will start using the buses for outings again.

Fresh Air, and Sunshine! I hope this is just what this darn COVID calls for...to kill it once and for all! I kinda doubt it, but it will help our mindsets some! I've been getting out most evenings either with a friend, or my partner. It's so nice to get out and enjoy some fresh air! Filtered slightly through a mask...but none the less, fresh air all around!

I think Spark needs to make a mask emoticon. I would slap it on all my messages! LOL!

I'm not quite ready to fly, or use public transportation either. Still dashing into grocery stores, and bathing in sanitizer on the way in and the way out. I must smell like a charm...

Super glad we've encountered Friday finally. Have a great weekend everybody! Chat soon! emoticon

I read recently that there is suspicion that the FL gov't is underreporting deaths and possibly case numbers. Not sure how accurate the info is, but I can't say I deeply doubt it.

I think I'd also be a bit scared to be in an enclosed bus with people who may or may not be vaccinated. But then, I'm a nervous nellie about it all. I guess since I'm fully vaccinated, I shouldn't worry as much, but the new variants are still such an unknown.

So I definitely understand feeling nervous with outsiders.

They are getting ready to start taking the buses on outings for residents again soon. I'm looking forward to that but still very nervous about being in situations with "outsiders". May State residents LOVE our Governor but I think he is an idiot. COVID runs rampant in this state but sensible precautions are forbidden to business owners.

Absolutely, getting outdoors is good, and meeting up with friends (of course safely) is also good. I am starting to have more friends fully vaxxed, and so am I, so we're starting to consider doing hikes outside our own family. It feels good to look forward to that.

Just popping in to say 'Hello"! Things are busy around here, as the COVID rules are easing up, folks are scheduling to bury their loved ones. Which is wonderful, and will bring closure to families. BUT, from a selfish standpoint, it is making work intensely crazy!

With the weather changing up a bit, and sunshine being more of the norm, I have been getting out in the evenings after work for walks in the park, or trail walks with friends. I'm grateful for that!

Hope everybody is well! Chat soon! emoticon

Yeah, I wish Spark would give us 3 strikes rather than 1, of not clicking the email notification, before it drops us.

Sometimes when catching up on things, I navigate to the threads instead of clicking the emails, and I don't always have something to say, so I end up getting dropped, too. It's pretty inconvenient. I feel like the way web traffic is monitored these days, they should be able to tell I visited! But seriously, send me like 3 emails for the thread before cutting that thread, dear Spark admins! (not that they'll ever see it)

I hope you're all doing ok. I'm hanging in there.

Hi there. Just finished reading a month's worth of chatting. Sorry to hear you had such a rough time with the vaccine, Lisa! We had the Pfizer and nothing worse than the normal soreness at the injection site that seems to be normal with any vaccination.

How's the acid problem coming along?

I envy you "artsy" ladies. I don't paint, write, photograph or anything creative. I'm strictly a numbers/logic kind of person. No sewing, knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking. I have no talent! emoticon

DH just planted a couple of containers (Earth Box), 1 each of tomatoes and hot peppers. We had so many tomatoes last year that I STILL have about 6-8 pints in the freezer. I wasn't going to plant any this year but we DO like fresh home-grown 'maters.

I'll try to keep up with your postings but I somehow ALWAYS get dropped from notifications on the chat threads.

Oh how I know what you mean about hot enough hours to do what I want vs. need!! It's what gets me that overwhelmed feeling that sends me to the pantry.

I have to admit that COVID has helped me a little bit to catch up on some long awaited things - things that have been on my to-do list for what seems like years (probably actually is years).

But there is SO much more! And I'm such a weirdo that once I start getting something done, instead of taking time to appreciate what I managed to accomplish, I begin just demanding more and more out of myself! Then get overwhelmed and/or disappointed that I didn't get more done.

The brain does such wonderful and yet not so wonderful things!

I definitely am an all or nothing person, but I am working on that. It just seems like there are not enough hours in the day to do what I want to do as opposed to what I need to do.

Hence, I just do a little here and there. It is still progress.

Currently I am on a heavy duty antibiotic and just resting today. I hate infections.

Hope u ladies are well and enjoy your weekend and/or Easter if you celebrate it!

I will have to check out that book The Artists Way. I seem to go all in, with all the things I want to do, and then swing back and do nothing for a while. I'm not sure what is wrong with me. There is just no happy medium in any of it! I guess I'm an all or nothing kind of person?

I think Julia Cameron wrote The Writer's Diet (or something like that). For a while I was on a Spark Team for it, but I never actually read the book (it wasn't a requirement for joining). I read part of it, but have no idea what happened there. I think the group quit posting, and I just stopped reading the book. Probably some large life upheaval did me in, LOL. It happens.

I am reading The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. There's a good Spark team for the book too.

I have been so closed off to the old me...the one who made time for fun by playing instruments, drawing, painting, hiking in the woods. I think the concepts of the Artist's Way are going to help me get my spark back.

Your "Art" can be practically anything (writing, painting, crafting, whatever floats your boat and gets you into the flow). You choose.

I got materials for a necklace and bracelet I am going to design and make for an old childhood friend. She is a dear person. FB got us back together.

I want a mommy too! I have also been trying to get back to the core of what makes me, me. I want the fun back. I think I lost a lot of my sense of humor in the last years, I need to do more self-care and get back to who I feel like being.

If you do container gardening, you might be able to start things later and keep them later in the season. I planted bell peppers and tomatoes in March of last year (pandemic planting to stave off starvation as everything closed). I'm still getting tomatoes and peppers, but they're itty bitty now! I need to cut everything back again and let it start blooming for Spring. Maybe I'll actually fertilize them. Or just throw more potting mix on top and let the nutrients sink in. I'm a lazy gardener!

If the new shoes don't do it for him, try Hoka One One Bondi. You can often get last year's model cheaper. REI is selling the Men's Bondi 6 (new model is Bondi 7) for a big discount right now. My husband thought they looked funny, but once he finally tried them, he won't wear anything else. Let us know how the Joyas work out! Maybe we'll look in to those, too!

Morning All! Had another very busy weekend. I really wanted to have a very lazy weekend, but that is not what happened. As you have all noted, life gets in the way. I too need a mom to take care of me and all the things that mom's take care of! It was a successful weekend however. We were able to get Don a pair of really good walking shoes, as he has arthritis in his feet, and walking has been nil for about 3 weeks now. We got him a pair of Joya's with some really quality inserts. He had for the last 3 weeks been wearing his OOFA's. Which are comfortable, but not walking quality. We also had a chance to start working on our storage unit. In our haste of moving last year, everything just got boxed and stored. Now, we start sorting/selling/donating. Well actually, not start, but continue. I was able to get rid of the big pieces last Spring. Took a long break from it over winter, and now, we are back at it.

Acid is such a crazy painful thing. I do hope the meds help, and the side affects are minimal so it's worth taking. We are debating on whether to start a garden this year or not. We have such a short growing season that we would need to be getting started right away. I am leaning towards passing on it...We'll see what Don thinks.

Sorry to hear of your side effect. Prilosec saved me when my stomach acid went haywire. I couldn't eat even the blandest thing without the acid getting me.

I take famotidine when not taking Prilosec.

My taxes are done and paid. I was getting a penalty for not withholding. That has been fixed. I did it so that I will likely break even and not owe much.

I am trying to get the artist part of me going again. I need a rent a mom, as I always had time for art when I was young. Now, it is chores, chores! I still need to make time for some good stuff.

I may go to a gardening place and pick out some more rose bushes and another rose tree. I've had one shot and think it would be fine visiting an outdoor gardening shop with my mask. I am also looking forward to getting a massage again or some energy work done.

Finally (mostly) finished taxes. Can't finalize for a few months yet, but at least the bulk of it is processed and off to the CPA.

Been out of Spark for about a week! But it looks like I haven't missed too much here.

I started taking Omeprazole (Prilosec generic) prescribed by my doc. But dang it's giving me crazy headaches and ear/sinus congestion. Not to mention some odd intestinal noises and different bathroom habits. But the burn of the GERD is gone! I hope I can be one of those people who can stop taking it after 2 weeks and have that proton pump behave.

I'm supposed to stay on it a month, but I'm not sure I can take a full month of headaches every other day.

@aaaack, Wtg for working on your taxes! I did WW online so I think TOPs online would be great! Also wtg on your training! I need to get motivated to exercise.

I used to binge eat as a kid and young adult. I can empathize. I used to eat 24/7. Literally. I am better now. Took some therapy and coping tools along the way. It can be overcomed.

emoticon

@red, I am the same way. I like to plan what I will eat each day. If someone tells me I can't have something, then it's a big trigger for me. If I tell myself I can have it, but on another day when my carbs are low, then I will usually wait for a better day.

LOL I hear you!!

I've been doing more research on BED (Binge Eating Disorder) and ways to treat it. I won't go into all my problems here, but I'm pretty sure that's my issue.

However, the accountability of TOPS appeals to me, I think it'll help me stay in the right headspace.

So, I have to get my taxes organized and off to the CPA, and then I'm going to join.

I did strength training this week (and intend to do it one more day) so I think I'm ready to add in TOPS once this tax pile of paperwork is off my to-do list!

I'm anxious to hear what you think of TOPS. I also like the freedom to eat what I like, rather then have a restrictive diet. I know I won't stick to a diet of what I'm told to eat. However, for me, being free to make my own choices, I tend to make the wrong ones... emoticon

I hear you on the meeting being too far away. For me, just getting someone to watch my son on a regular basis is very difficult, so the online meetings feel like a better fit for me.

Thanks for sharing that they don't give you a particular diet to follow. I was hunting for that info on their website. They have a few different options for advice of ways to monitor food intake, but I couldn't tell if I had to pick one, or if it was just offered for people who don't have their own preferred tracking.

I found it pretty interesting that they still offer using food exchanges (like back with the diabetic food exchange system in the 1980s) and they have a My Plate option, and I didn't look past those two.

I really just want to do my own thing food-wise. I know how to eat healthy, I lack the ability to stick to anything and to stop binge eating (now, for seemingly no reason). So I am hoping the accountability portion of their program will help me.

When I tried WW, the main thing I did like was the feeling I got each week during/after the meetings. It was like I'd reprioritized my health and myself. Like the meetings reminded me that I matter, that I really should care what I'm putting in my body, and that I'm not in this alone. So, I'm hoping that TOPS will offer that same feeling, albeit through online meetings.

What can I do for myself today?

I did the free meeting at TOPs. I thought it was very nice. Everyone gets privately weighed, and then they have a group talk.

I didn't join because it was far away from my house. I just went with my sis as it was close to her house. It's nice as they don't give you a specific diet to follow, but it gives you accountability.

Some ppl really get into it and go to the yearly get togethers (at least before Covid).

The meeting was at a church too, but it wasn't religious at all.

Sometimes the meetings are at libraries.

What's funny is that I also thought it was a religious thing. My sister did TOPS with a group from her church. So I just assumed it was religious. I am not. But recently I found out that people can apply to host a group, which must be how my sister's church had a group.

Anyway, it's a lot like WW, but MUCH cheaper. Did I mention below that WW was close to $50/mo, but TOPS is something like $32 a year!

My main reason for not joining yet is that I'm not sure I have time to devote to it, and don't want to give myself yet another reason to feel like a failure at something.

When I do join, it's going to be the online version, with an eye to someday doing one of the public/local in-person meetings. Those will be an additional $5/month if/when I decide to join a local chapter. You get to go to one for free, then have to pay after that. I'd do the free trial first to make sure I'm not joining a cult-style group, LOL.

I always thought TOPS was a church/religious based program. Maybe because it seems to always be held around here at a church? I'm not sure why I thought that. Anyway, I've never considered it as I'm not a member of any religious community. I may have to check that one out, as being a vegetarian too, that sometimes makes it difficult on the programs offered.

I have a spark pal who has been very successful with TOPs. She loves it!

For some reason, Embi, I thought you were going to be indoors. I guess I do have a bit of desperation to return to normal seeping in, so my brain just painted that picture. But what a wonderful thing to get together with a friend at a public place!

Mom lives in her home, but at the moment has (expensive) in-home care workers. Something will need to be done, thought, it's really pricey.

I'm considering joining TOPS. It's so cheap, doesn't require me to convert everything to points (I've done calories since I was 14, it's super easy) and doesn't penalize me for being vegetarian. Does anyone have experience with it?

Happy Monday Everyone! I was off the rails this weekend with snacks and food and lack of exercise. I'm owning it...Now, it's back to reality.

AAAACK..Glad to hear you were able to get the immunization! Isn't it funny that grocery shopping is something to almost look forward to? LOL! I grocery shopped in person again this weekend as well. Only, because I was going to be in town for some other errands...I have gotten a tad spoiled with ordering on line and having them delivered.

Happy to hear that your mom is on the mend. I have heard that Covid brings some long lasting issues with it. I guess we won't know fully for quite some time. Is your mom in an assisted care facility or does she live at home?

Hi Minnie, It was a fun evening...but honestly, it was far from normal. But closer then anything I've had to normal as of late. It was odd to be outside in the winter months, although there were heaters, it was a tad chilly. Although, come summer, these are the places we used to all rush to! LOL! And, it was odd to see everybody still wearing masks, unless they had a drink up to their face. I am thankful for that however! Everybody was so careful, yet cautiously enjoying the presence of others. And, yes...it was a step towards normal!

Things at work are still busy. We do have new rules set by the governor...but we are not pushing forward, but rather kind of staying the same with what we had before. We are allowed 200 people for an outside service. Because we don't feel like we can handle 200 and keep socially distanced, keeping everybody safe, we have capped it at 75. That seems more manageable from our perspective. I know one of our local Native American tribes that we work very closely with, is not allowing their tribal members to have any funeral services at this time. Covid is running rampant in their tribal community, so the are taking extra precautions as well.

Hope everybody has a good week! I'm back to tracking food, and exercise. Although it is overcast today, hopefully after work I can get a walk in with the dog. I wore pants to work today. I mostly wear dresses, or tunics with leggings...which are very comfortable. But, I can also put on pounds and not notice with these choices....so, It's back to pants for awhile to remind myself that first, I can still fit them. And second, I need to watch what I eat if I want to still fit them next month! emoticon

@MINNIEUK thanks for asking about my mom. She's doing better, but it's going to be a very long time (if ever) that she returns to a semblance of normal. She just can't care for herself anymore. Although, that's through the filter of my sister, so I can't be 100% sure that's the same opinion I'd have if I were there.

My "normal" thing I might do this coming week is grocery shop. My vaccine should be completely effective now (I think it's 94% for Moderna). I'm 2 weeks beyond my 2nd vax date, so I should be ready. But it's so weird because nobody else in my house is vaccinated, so I still have to have the same level of care with everything. It's just now, I worry less that I'm personally going to die from COVID.

AAAACK, how is your Mom doing now? Have you been able to visit? We are still in strict lockdown here. My parents have both had a vaccine but we still aren't allowed to see them yet.

I'm so envious of your evening Red. It just sounds so normal! That's what I'm craving. How is work? Have you still got special rules around funerals?
