Cut carbs by planning meals, entering in nutrition tracker and look at the carb colume and change portions or types of food to fit needs and still keep happy foods in there

I'm not much help - I don't like veggies!! at 72 I still m a spoiled brat about not eating them I eat fruits instead ...and mostly berries on low carb.

Bringing this topic back again for new low carb dieters. I'm tired of green beans and broccoli cuts, only like my greens fresh cooked, hate salad. What are my other choices in low carb veg besides god-awful cauliflower?

Well decided to eat fish and chicken. I won't eat red meat again. I was told years ago when I had 2 cancers that it was caused by red meat and being overweight. It took a long time to get off the red meat but finally did it in December last year. Then in Jan. decided to do vegetarian but since then have gone back to chicken and fish.. I just am goint to start eating more of that when I get groceries.

@HAWTGRANNY2014 Give your self some dark chocolate around 3pm... They say that is when the real urge to cheat comes around. My Mother in-Love used to say eat broccoli, it does the same thing to your endorphins as chocolate. I've found that reading my labels help me cut down on sugary things, which turns into carbs. You'll do great...

I also only eat fish . I was vegetarian since Jan but was deficient in iron so have been eating a bunch of fish lately. I am going to try going back to all vegetarian when I get vegetables next month. I have a lot to learn lol.

Hi HAWTGRANNY2014,

Have you thought about joining our Diabetic Program? Go to the Learn tab above and select "Health & Wellness". Then click the "Diabetes" option near the top of that page to get started. Joining that program will automatically turn on the Diabetic meal plans for you. Even if you do not choose to completely follow the suggested meals, they may give you some good ideas on some meal/snack options that fit well with a diabetic lifestyle.

I like replacing the starch in meals with vegetables, like using spaghetti squash or spiraled zucchini in place of pasta and snacking on salted edamame instead of chips.

I try to limit the carb-heavy sugary fruits (mango, grapes, bananas) and stick to melons or berries which tend to be low calorie and lower in carbs.

Blending a bunch of frozen fruit in a blender and making a healthy "slush" can be good for sweet cravings. I like munching on frozen fruit just by itself--the crunchiness and chewiness of is pretty satisfying.

I am diabetic and I have a hard time when the craving hits me. I did stock up on fruit this time but some of it has a high carb rating too. I bought cottage cheese and can put a little fruit on top to help the craving but I would like to know other things I can do to bring down the carbs
