Cindy: I laughed so hard when I went to that BLOG. I'm certain you've seen the movie "Super-Size Me"? If you haven't, please do. But, not while you are eating.

Thanks for the laugh

Baby steps...isn't that the truth! I stumble and fall everytime I try to leap into a fitness program.

I succeed when I prepare, be consistent and incrementally increase. All 3 factors are important to my well-being.

Thanks. Small victories are definitely good. Routine is so important to me and whenever I stray from it for one reason or another, it definitely takes a toll on my food plan.

This morning I had 4 egg whites, a turkey sausage chopped in, and a sprinkle of feta cheese on top.

I must get back to staying on the IR diet.

I'm trying to keep my motivation in mind as much as possible and taking small steps through difficult times. I have many, many out of town weekends coming up and one week just past, so my schedule is all over. I'm going to make sure I do tiny workouts every morning no matter where I am, and focus on eating just what I need, not what I'm served. I did that on my week-long trip, and I still went over, but I left food on my plates, which is a victory for me.

Maybe you just need to try some little things, and celebrate even the tiniest victories. I also just changed my computer background to lots of women in bikini's with flat bellies, and I have to look at it every time I'm on the computer, so I can't forget my bikini body goal. I also repeat "bikini" in my head whenever I'm staring at temptation!

This is a great food plan to follow for life. I was doing very well until I went off the wagon. However, it's so hard to get back on track when cookies and mashed potatoes and gravy taste so good.

I've tried several times to get back on track, but guess I am not in the right frame of mind. I did great for a couple of months, but out of town relatives, Mother's Day and this holiday weekend have made it hard to stay on track.

My body feels so good when I eat healthy and clean on this food plan, so why do I stray from it. Temptations are overbearing I guess.

Any suggestions on getting back on track and sticking with it are most welcomed. I do best when I can stick to a schedule and routine in my life, but when things go out of wack like house guests and holidays, I screw up.

How does everyone else handle these issues.

Eat smart. Live well.

Kim...I have the same problem at times. I am not hungry and have to remind myself to eat so I can get the appropriate calories, etc. in. I know everything is a chemical balance, just like you need certain ingredients to make a recipe work, the same goes for losing weight pending the various medical conditions. Take one element out or another and it just doesn't work right.

I know when my mom did weight watchers, a lot of people thought that removing the fat would make them lose more weight. They actually lost less or none at all those weeks.

It will get easier as time goes by. Just keep things up, you are doing great!

I never meet the carb goals, they are simply too high for IR. I don't usually have trouble with calories because I eat a lot of calorie dense snacks like nuts, and I'm very active (= always hungry after my evening workout!). I mostly feel, however, that if you are honestly not hungry, don't worry about eating more. If you are consistently low, take the opportunity to add a small amount of healthy fat to something, like olive oil or nuts. Studies suggest that won't hurt weight loss efforts even at slightly higher calories.

Does anyone else have a hard time meeting the calorie, carb, protein and fat goals for their day? Since I switched over to the IR diet I've had a hard time with it. I'm just not as hungry anymore. Even today I'm still down 200+ calories.

apparently the DTour diet is based on four "superfoods" that burn fat for you, and these are ... wait for it ... Vitamin D, calcium, omega 3 and fiber. Wow. That's a revelation.

It looks like a huge gimmick that is going to tell you to eat things like dairy and whole grains and nuts and fish, and watch the pounds melt off. I'm sure it will also tell you to limit the portions of those and eat more frequently to keep blood sugar stable. Sounds like a typical diet. I'd save your money.

Minnie: you might work on building up some muscle, I find that I can eat a bit more now that I have more muscle on me. Your weight on the scale gets wonky while you do it, and you can't eat in too much of a deficit, but I feel like my metabolism works much better now that I lift more frequently. I also throw little sprints into my days (like running up and down 4 flights of stairs twice) when I feel like I haven't been active enough, takes 2-3 minutes, but if done very intensely, will burn calories for a while after.

No day but today ...

sorry, cindy.
haven't been getting here. will have to try harder.

what do you think of the "DTOUR Diet"? search the web for info. is it just another calorie limiting gimmick?

melissa, i maintain at consuming 1400 calories and burning 1800/day. both of these require great effort and leave no leeway for social occasions or eating outsid my house. i really should burn more!!

My heart is hurting right now. I lost my beloved pet, "other son", yesterday. My blog tells it all. He had been sick for a while, but was doing better and got a good check-up only four days ago, then on Easter things changed and yesterday we had to say goodbye.

I am feeling lost right now and kind of on a spark break for a little while, so I can grieve and heal. The memories and love will live on forever to infinity. But, the miss is ever present for both my son and myself.

Please pray for our strength to get through this.

Thank you.

Sparkpeople's calorie calculation is generally quite good, if you put in your weight, how much you want to lose by when, and fill in how many calories you expect to burn in a week, I've done very well with their numbers. Here is the link as to how they calculate in case you want to do it yourself: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/calorie
_c
alculation101.asp

I weigh about 150lbs. I workout some every morning and evening, I aim to burn about 250-300cals/day through exercise. I can maintain my weight eating close to 2000 calories. To lose at a reasonable pace, I need to eat less than 1600 calories. I typically try to eat between 1300-1600 calories right now. I can maintain without counting, but to lose I have to track more carefully.

I have to share something I am a bit proud of. On Saturday, we were trying to teach our son to ride his new two-wheel bike w/ training wheels. Well, he didn't have much luck at first, so we decided to crack out our bikes and dust off the cobwebs (figuratively speaking) and put him in the child seat on mine and go for a ride.

I didn't know if this would be a good idea since it had been years since I have been on a regular bike. Also, feared that my legs would be screaming, as they normally do after long lapses in riding. Well, I guess the strength training I have been doing on my legs paid off. My legs felt wonderful, no pain, no weakness and now I want to do some more riding on the weekends. My son just loved it. I think we managed, with hubs riding alongside, about a mile and a half before ending up at home.

Thanks!

Yay us! - thanks for the update Deb!

I agree with everyone that breakfast is the place to start. Find what works for you and then move to the next snack or meal and work until you find what satisfies there too and so forth. You don't have to make all the changes at once. Actually statistics show that small changes tend to become permanent in your diet/lifestyle whereas too many too fast can cause you to stray off course too easily.

Best wishes on finding what works for you. Just know that YOU CAN DO IT!

It can be tough to figure out where to start. I think I started with breakfast. I figure, if I can start the day off healthy and stable, than that will help everything else. Find a good high-protein lower-carb breakfast that works for you and eat that. Then start worrying about other meals.

Here are my favorite breakfasts:
classic eggs and bacon
egg scrambles/frittatas/omelets with peppers, onions, tomato and cheddar
egg scrambles with spinach, onions, and feta
oatmeal with egg/protein powder and fruit
"pancakes" made with ground nuts and oats and eggs with fruit
Kashi GoLean cereal

Last couple of days has been bad rain and tornado warnings. But, better weather today and hopefully next week too.

Been doing a lot of experimental cooking lately. Trying new things and seeing how I can get a better, healthier spin on some old time comfort foods, since husband loves those.

New England is very rainy, so I'm not getting outside much either. I am a fan of coconut oil, I use it in my baking quite a lot nowadays. It's expensive though, so I'm careful with it.

We got rainy weather today. Took the opportunity to transplant some of my seedlings, for flower bed planting and for an herb garden attempt, and planted them into larger containers to grow a bit more before finaly planting.

The oak blossoms and high pollen count, along with some dry condition forrest fires has the air quality not so good. Son had laryngitis, hubs has continued sneezing and it is really laying into the asthma and allergies on my end too. But, as long as I am still moving and trying to attain my goals....all is good.

Hoping the rain washed away some pollen today!!

We got rain thursday, but it isn't looking too bad today. I'm hoping it stays clear, maybe me and dh can go running.

Feel better Deb, take care of yourself!

I'm feeling pretty good today, planning to bake some carrot cake for church tomorrow, yum!

TOO much rain but will make some spring plantings a bit easier for digging :)
Feeling healthier mind and body, although there are some moments where I feel very discouraged. Then I notice something is a bit improved. Positive attitude is everything :)
Having problems with right elbow, right arm is swollen ( I have lymph node disection on that arm) so I might have to go to doctor for this. Right side back part of my neck is sore, kinked like you sleep on it wrong. I am just falling apart :) SO I am still smiling and feeling pretty good. Have a healthy happy weekend all.

I had a nice break this morning, as church choir took the day off. Typically, I have practice at 8:15am, but today I didn't have to be at service until 10! It was also nice to sit in the congregation with different people. I brought a gluten-free, vegan apple cake that was a hit! So many people wanted the recipe that I've been asked to include it in the next bulletin. Now I am doing my usual Sunday getting stuff done, laundry, shopping, cooking, etc.

A very early good morning! I would like to make a healthy quiche, I love veggies but my husband doesn't. Makes it a challenge to cook. I have been on recipe hunts and have spied some yummy healthy casseroles.
Puppy has me up early,so I am being quiet. Is suppose to be a nice day.
You will make the right choices...being "mindful" I think of that often. Especailly at times when my meals are off, like yesterday we ate a very late lunch. SO I ate a more filling meal for lunch and ate very light for dinner.
Relax and enjoy...each day is a gift.

Morning Deb, I like to chat! I have been enjoying the sun this morning, along with my morning workout and a frittata that fell apart because it had more veggies than eggs! Spinach, roma tomato, and onions, topped with low-fat italian cheese blend, yummy!

I'm going on a no-tracking calorie stint to try and reduce the ocd and stress in my life for a bit. A little less stress is also better for the body! However, I still need to remember to make good choices.

An offical chat room for anything. Thought it would be a nice way to get to know eachother...give support too.
I am just getting my health back in order and making progress everyday. Getting back into my recipes and favorite veggies. I am in a positive ROOM but taking it one day at a time. It has taken 3 weeks to get my blood sugars down more where they should be.
Having soom sunny days does wonders for the "mood" too, way too much cloudy days and rain!!!
