The move down here was an answer to prayer and a giant blessing. We don't plan on moving any time soon. The kiddos are 14, 12 & 10 so we plan on staying put for the foreseeable future. Maybe downsize once they are really out there on their own, after college maybe. My MIL is in the process of selling her house so she can follow us down here. She's been downsizing too. She will have a tag sale in August, and hopefully she'll get some interest on her house soon.

Today the kids and I cleaned up quite a bit. Daughter cleaned her room and wants to rearrange it. Oldest Son picked up his room, vacuumed and learned how to clean the boys' bathroom and did it all on his own with direction from me. Youngest Son cleaned his room, sorted some old school supplies and papers to recycle/trash and vacuumed his room. I completely cleared off the island (it's been a catch-all since moving in) and cleaned all the counters, organizing the stuff left out. Tomorrow Goodwill comes so I need to work on getting all the boxes in one place to be ready for them.

Tina, How nice to hear that you'll be able to do the best recycling by providing your hubby's friend with the boxes. Nice for him and nice for the environment. And it's good that you have what sounds like a sound plan.

The last time we moved was 11 years ago. Hope to never have to do that again. It was certainly easier when younger and upsizing than older and downsizing!

We recently moved from OH to NC and our new home doesn't have a basement, but the garage is filled with boxes and bins that need attention. I'm still working on unpacking the inside of the house before I can tackle that. I'm making progress, but I'll jump in here and commit to getting all the boxes out of the house (Goodwill is coming Sat. for a pick up) and everything into its home by the end of July. Luckily, Hubby has a friend here who is beginning the process of moving and we can donate all our moving boxes to him.

One bite at a time...that's the way to do it!

Charlotte, How do you eat an elephant? Answer:

That's a big project on my list, too, but let's all try a little bit at a time.

My basement is HORRIBLE!

It scares me, I don't know how to start.

But I am ready to tackle it. Five minutes today, let's do it!

I started my decluttering some time ago I am doing rather well. We had a community yard sale so that took a lot out of the house. My basement is my demise

Sounds like a doable plan, Charlotte. I got waysided in another area, but I just may follow your lead and do the same.

I printed out the calendar but have not started the tasks, my husband has been very sick for the past month so I was taking care of him and cleaning and de-cluttering has been a low priority.

I did clean out the coffee/tea cabinet and a few pantry shelves.

Today, so far, I have been intentional.
I first read a book with my 11 yr old daughter.
Then we colored in those adult coloring books while listening to Mozart (trying to see if different music effected how fast we colored lol. After that it was Sharon, Lois and Bram's silly songs. chuckle.)

Then I took more photos off of the display.
I began sparking.
ANNNND...since I discovered that my eyesight might NOT be going dim after all, I had my tall son, get the ceiling light GLOBES down so I could wash the GRIME off of them.
lol
It's a MIRACLE! I CAN SEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Yes, and it was sooo good to HEAR from her again!
She's usually chatting about the kids she babysits.

Too funny on the silent game! emoticon

I'm not struggling this morning, but last night was struggling with trying to not go back for seconds. I've been craving cornbread and buttermilk, made some last night and found it impossible not to do seconds. I was only just a little full, so I guess things could have been much worse. I'm hoping for a stronger day in eating just what I need and not as much as I want.

Today, I was 'intentional' by getting out the photo display posters from my mom and dad's funerals and began dis-assembling them. It's only been 6 months since Dad's. Got one done and am almost finished with the second. One more after that and I WILL have them done this week. I WILL.

Then I'll choose which ones to scan /keep/ give away.
And then I will scan, keep, or give them away!

My voice was better today, only gave out a few times.
But I was playing Blokus with my oldest daughter (22) and, for some reason, she would NOT talk to me! She was pleasant. She would TEXT, she would smile. But she would NOT answer me vocally.
I tried to MAKE her talk, by tickling her knee...which only turned into an arm wrestling match.
I said, "Are you not SPEAKING TO ME???" And she shook her head in the negative. But did not answer me.
Then she leaned forward, pulled something up on her phone and showed me her facebook post.
It said,
'When your brother challenges you to a 'silent' contest.'

I had wondered why my 15 yr old son 'signed' for permission to run to the corner store, instead of vocally asking. I just thought he was being silly and made nooooo connection to the two of them.

He lost the contest about an hour and a half later.
lol

LOL You have a great and funny outlook, so I'm sure you'll be feeling better in no time. Too funny!

I haven't gotten around to week one yet, but hope to have it done before the week is out.

My voice keeps coming in and out.
I had to be up at 6:00 to greet my 3 Little Visitors (the kids I babysit) and my voice wasn't working AT ALL. I was gonna be soooo embarrassed if I couldn't speak to the dad. lol
(Actually, I got the cold from THEM, no doubt.)
Anyway, as soon as they got to the door, my voice worked perfectly.
Then it disappeared after Mr. Dad left.
emoticon
Phew!

Then there were several times I couldn't get my voice to activate, but something would happen that was funny...and I'd break out in a laugh, a VOCAL laugh, and then all of a sudden my talking voice would work.

WHAT.EVER.

My desk area gets pretty bad. I made a huge difference 2 January's ago when I painted up TWO four-foot bookcases and then went and bought EIGHTnice woven style plastic boxes to sit on the shelves of one. One for each of the older kids whose stuff often piled up at the desk.
That helped a lot! But still, lots of cluttery things sitting here.

I'm too sick today to look at the calendar. I'll check it out later.
I'm hoarse. Neigh!

You're welcome. Most of us would need to modify or replace some of the tasks. But this site is one tool we can put in our box to get the job done. Glad you guys are letting me know what you like.

I love these! I think for those I can't use (back to school, and such) I'll make my own. I love that each task gives you a full week to complete. Thank you for sharing!

This website "52 Weeks to an Organized Home" actually has daily challenges laid out in a monthly calendar format or, if you prefer, a listing of each "chore". Some, such as Jan 1 is as simple as reading about the weekly challenge. Others -- well, there's just no way one can accomplish the task in 15 minutes, but I intend to work it into my plan. If you like structure, this may be the help you need.

You can sign up for emails if you like, but that's optional.

I printed out January's calendar, read about Kitchen Counters, and actually fully cleaned out a cabinet holding coffee & tea items. That last wasn't on this week's list, but I like to work from top to bottom so I thought I'd get a head start.
